This episode was a little blah to me at first, but upon 2 more watches it grew on me!
Recap for episode 3x12
Episode starts with Bonnie having a dream. She’s at a cemetery where all her ancestors are buried.
Shallow moment- Bonnie looks hot in this scene!
She her hair is all straight and pretty and I finally like what she has on; because I swear the wardrobe people have it out for her sometimes. But of course you know I notice the girls too. I don’t discriminate. Sometimes the girls look sexy and no one ever acknowledges it, it’s unfair I tell you.
Anyway she’s walking toward the coffin and suddenly Klaus appears all sexy right behind her
, and he says he figured out how to open it. Before she knows it, Klaus is throwing her in the coffin and she’s trapped. She’s fighting and trying to get out, and then her moms face appears? At least I think it’s how it all goes down.
>>>>>>>>>>>>
Anyway Bonnie finally comes clean to Elena about the whole Stefan/Klaus coffins shenanigans, and when Stefan shows up he’s less than thrilled to find Elena standing in front of the coffins. So he gets all pissy, and boy Stefan got away with a whole lot there with Bonnie. His tone is all kinds of condescending, like he’s someone’s daddy. Uh-Uh Stefan. I do not approve. Then he turns around and tells Elena not to tempt him to kidnap her again. Oh lordy..
Bonnie tells Elena she needs her help finding her mom.
>>>>>>>>>>>
Elena and Bonnie are searching for Bonnie’s mother, whom she hasn’t seen in over 15 years. Another moment between these two friends (Wow the show is on a roll, they might start having me think they actually value this whole friendship thing!
) Anyway things are obviously a little tense between these two since Elena’s decision to send Jeremy away, Bonnie wasn’t thrilled but it seemed she built a bridge and got over it, like the rest of us. I think it’s great that despite the tension and the awkwardness between them, Bonnie was confident enough in their friendship to ask for Elena’s help in finding her mom. It says a lot about the bond between these two girls, they really have each other’s back no matter what, and Elena tells her there’s nothing more important. <3
. It’s adorable. Anyway the conversation continues as Elena tries to reassure Bonnie that she doesn’t need to get all wrapped up in Steffy’s problems, but
Bonnie reminds her that a witch has locked the coffin so it automatically makes it her problem. Really Bonnie?
Now where is the logic in that? I’m sure there’s a gazillion witches within a two mile radius of Mystic Falls, why does it have to fall on you?
Anyway Bonnie says she was bound to find her mom sooner or later, and then Damon decides to bless us with his presence
. He comes bearing gifts of course; in his hand he holds a file that contains information about Bonnie’s mom.
Elena immediately tenses up the moment he walks through the door. I can’t decide if it’s out of sheer nervousness or some kind of sudden irrational fear of being near him. Either way you can immediately tell that things just got very awkward for her. Damon is being Damon, and he’s all excited to go road tripping but Elena’s like uh-uh nope. She tells him that Bonnie hasn’t seen her mom in years and they don’t need him narrating the experience with his snark.
(Honestly that’s exactly what he’d do btw! Poor Bonnie would’ve had to give him an aneurysm to shut him up.)
But we all know that’s not why Elena doesn’t want Damon to go. She doesn’t want to have to be around him after all the weirdness since the kiss that she’s still reeling from. Those feelings haven’t disappeared and being around him will make it that much harder to stop thinking about him, or the kiss and what it all means. Of course Damon uses his charm to try and sway her, first he pouts and he gives her that adorable little smirk
and he has her completely mesmerized for a second, almost at his mercy. Bonnie interjects when she realizes that the two of them have completely forgotten that she was in the room. She asks what the hell is going on, and Elena and Damon finally break away from their eye-sexing long enough to acknowledge her presence. Damon decides he’s going to let the cat out of the bag, he lets it be known that he and Elena kissed and now it’s “weird.” Essentially Damon decided that if he wasn’t going to be allowed on the trip, he’d make sure they’d at least be talking about him the whole time there.

Next we have Caroline strutting in to find Tyler on her couch. (Caroline’s hot this episode too!) She’s not happy to see him, no not at all, nope not after he almost killed her with his hybrid teeth. But Tyler wants to be heard, he has something important to tell her. I swear I love Tyler in this scene and I hope Caroline appreciates what he’s willing to go through for her. Pretty much jump through hoops. I love Tyler.
He has Caroline’s dad to help him. Is it me? Or does Caroline’s father look like a total creep, like seriously? I get the heebie jeebies when he smiles at her.
[/img]

But I like what her dad has to say, and more importantly I like that he’s not being a complete idiot about supernaturals.
>>>>>>>>>>>
Alaric and his new love interest (Meredith) are hanging out at the grill. That chick just screams psycho. (Might have to do with the fact that she plays one in almost every show she’s been on. Nanny Carrie anyone?) Anyway they’re having small talk and Alaric’s getting his mack on. It’s been a while since Jenna
and I think it’s about time he gets back out there.
As soon as Psycho Meredith leaves Damon appears and he’s very in interested in his buddy’s new love interest. I swear Damon and Alaric are my OTP, these two are just perfection. I can’t help but smile when they’re on the screen. It’s always nice to hear Damon’s philosophy on love and women, he’s been around a long time Ric could maybe learn a few things. Anyway Damon says that Meredith is damaged and from what I can tell, that’s the understatement of the century. Alaric says he couldn’t find any red flags and Damon kindly points them out to him. Lol. Dead ex-boyfriend and all.
Alaric- What would my exes call me?
Damon- Nothing, they’re all dead.
Damon, you slay me you asshole. I love these two. And this relationship is one of the best things about this show. These are just two men having a casual conversation about relationships. But these to are just.... perfect. Damon and Alaric need to have a spinoff I'd watch. ;D
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Stefan meets Klaus at the boarding house.
I love how Klaus makes himself at home. He’s sitting in a recliner listening to music; he’s poured himself a drink and everything. Klaus asks Stefan what else he has to do to get his family back. Stefan says something about Klaus leaving MF and maybe he’ll reconsider. I find hilarity in the fact that I’m supposed to believe that Stefan believes he can make demands like that.
He doesn’t even get to finish his statement before Klaus starts laughing at him, and I do too. Klaus jokes about him being bad, and asks if he has any friends left. Strikes a nerve with Steffy obviously. Klaus realizes that Stefan places a lot of importance on how people perceive him, and that’s why he makes that comment. For a millisecond you can see Stefan’s face fall giving us a peak at just how he’s feeling before the walls come right back up.
Awww I actually feel bad for Stefan right here
. Even though he pushed people away with his bad attitude everyone deserves a friend, right? Well he’s still got Damon, he’ll always have Damon. He’s kind of stuck with him. Anyway I kind of want to give Stefan a hug. Poor baby!
But seriously though the Salvatore mansion is so freaking elaborate! Who decorated that place? Better yet who cleans it? I’m thinking more than likely that’s Damon. It’s no wonder he doesn’t play about dead girls on his furniture.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Love Bonnie’s car!
Bonnie’s a nervous wreck about meeting her mom for the first time since she was three years old. Elena’s trying to convince her that it’s going to be okay, but Bonnie wants to talk about Elena kissing Damon. Bonnie asks her if it was good, and Elena’s reply is it doesn’t matter. Bonnie concludes that it was good. Elena doesn’t argue. So that settles it, the kiss was totally good.
Stefan’s being a pain in everyone’s ass, calling Elena and Bonnie, and genuinely being a creepy stalker. Lol.
Klaus, has his hybrids on high alert, and he’s got something up his sleeve, that Elena and Bonnie are not exactly aware of.
Bonnie and Elena arrive at Abby’s (Bonnie’s mother) house and Bonnie’s nervous and it shows. I think this is exactly why she needed Elena on this trip with her. Elena’s her best friend and she’ll push her and encourage her just enough to face what she’s been hiding from. It’s very telling when Elena rings the doorbell, while Bonnie stands nervously behind her.
“Hey there!”
Hubba Hubba! He’s hot! And look at those eyes!
You could practically hear Bonnie chanting in her mind. “Please don’t be my brother. Please don’t be my brother.” And luckily he isn’t, well at least not by blood anyway.
So Elena and Bonnie are invited inside, and Jaime offers them coconut water?
Really? But that stuff is good though, I won’t lie.
Anyway once they’re inside we learn that Abby has kind of taken Jaime in as her family, and you can see Bonnie trying to hide the hurt that she feels. Her mother abandons her, but takes in some random kid from a failed relationship? Hmmm. Not liking this Abby chick so far. But she’s pretty I must admit.
When Abby finally makes it home, she finds Bonnie in her kitchen and it’s a little emotional from that point. I think she immediately recognizes Bonnie even before she’s told it’s her daughter, the look on her face is very telling. I feel for Bonnie in this scene, she’s barely keeping it together as she introduces herself. Poor Girl!
>>>>>>>>>>>>
Tyler/Caroline and Bill are on some extreme mission to cure Tyler of his sire bond to Klaus. Poor Tyler, ugh, I swear if Caroline doesn’t appreciate all he’s going through I will be livid!
>>>>>>>>>>>>
Back at Abby’s, Elena’s concerned about how Bonnie is holding up. We then learn that Bonnie’s mother knew Elena’s parents, and the reasons she left town was to lure Mikael into a crypt. So it seems Elena’s parents knew vampires were after her even when she was just a baby.
Bonnie’s had enough of Abby already, and once she learns that she has no power, she’s ready to bolt out of there, but Elena stops her and Abby begs her to stay.
>>>>>>>>>>>>
Elena decides to let the pair have some time to sort things out, so she takes a breather, probably went looking for hot Jaime!
I don’t blame you Elena; I’d be doing the same thing.
Can I take a moment to appreciate Elena in this mini skirt and boots? I mean geez, she has amazing legs.
So jealous. What’s with the MF girls this episode, taking my attention away from drooling on the guys?
So anyway Stefan continues to be a thorn in everyone’s backside and he shows up right behind Elena, and she’s not exactly happy to see him.
>>>>>>>>>>>>
Damon in the mean-time is at the hospital getting the story on Alaric’s new girl. He’s rightfully suspicious of her and I laughed out loud when he said he likes to wave at the newborns through the window.
My heart flutters at the mere thought. Seriously what could be more adorable?
Anyway Damon confronts Meredith about her dead ex, and she takes him into one of those rooms.
I love that Damon is doing this because he’s concerned for Alaric.
He knows Alaric likes psycho Meredith and he doesn’t want his friend getting hurt, just in case she’s some creepy serial killer. Damon has one rule no one is allowed to kill his brother, or his best friend except for him.
But she makes it clear that she knows he’s a vampire so, he drops it. But the psycho B**TCH vervaines him and blood jacks my poor baby. Not gonna lie Damon is all kinds of cute when he’s unconscious.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Tyler’s in pain, poor thing. Bill’s really an extremist; he’s beating Tyler up and threatening to kill him and such. But he’s also a fool, to stay in the same room where a hybrid is transforming.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Back at Abby’s Bonnie’s fed up with muffins and compliments she’s ready to get to the point. She wants to know what would possess her mom just pack up and leave her behind, and frankly so am I. I want to like Abby and I really wished her reason for leaving Bonnie behind was a lot more complicated than it was. I was disappointed, she saw a way to run from her problems and she took it without even considering her only child. I’m not amused, it was selfish and inconsiderate, and certainly not something a mother should do. I’m judging Abby really hard right now, and while I can understand her not wanting to live that kind of life, what about her daughter? Why didn’t she take her daughter with her, oh right because being away from Bonnie meant she wouldn’t have to deal with her powers? Unacceptable. She just made the assumption that Bonnie would be okay, without even bothering to actually care, but she took in someone else’s kid though? Did she not know Bonnie would be a witch and that she’d need her mother? Heck Bonnie could have been dead all this time for all she knew, she’s sure come close to it a few times. So basically Abby ran because she was a coward. *Shrugs*
Anyway Abby so out of touch with her family, that she didn’t even know Grams had passed. They both are teary as Bonnie recalls the events that led to Gram’s death.
Outside or in the barn wherever they are, Elena and Stefan are in a bit of a squabble. Stefan’s asks if she didn’t think he’d find out, and Elena’s telling him that she really didn’t care. So Stefan apparently thinks its okay for him to keep everyone out of the loop, but they’re not allowed to do the same to him.
Hot Jaime sees the two bickering and he interjects, he gets all in Stefan’s face, and Stefan shoves him or chokes him, I honestly can’t remember.
Jaime runs out and gets his shot gun to shoot Stefan.
In the next scene we get Abby using some kind of herbs to mute Bonnie’s magic. Jaime’s obviously compelled and I think Bonnie’s mom is going along with the plan since witches can’t be compelled.
>>>>>>>>>>>
We finally get to see Alaric’s muscles again. *Giggles* Damon’s at Ric’s apartment filling him in on what Psycho Meredith did to him at the hospital. Alaric seems a bit annoyed because Damon clearly has no regard for boundaries; he just sticks his nose in everything.
>>>>>>>>>>
Back at the barn, Jaime’s tying Elena up and Abby is kidnapping Bonnie. Why is Stefan writhing on the floor from one or two wooden bullets?
>>>>>>>>>>>>
Abby urges Bonnie to tell her where the coffins are but Bonnie tells her she can’t. Her mom gives her a signal to warn her friends.
>>>>>>>>>>>>
Meanwhile Stefan is still writhing on the floor like he’s suffering from some fatal injuries. Stefan get a grip please.
Elena manipulates a compelled Jaime and wacks him in the head with his own gun.
She then goes to help a helpless Stefan who’s suffering from wooden bullets scraping his heart. Are you kidding me? If I recall Logan fell riddled Damon with Bullets in season 1, and he was perfectly able to remove them himself, yet Stefan can’t handle two little wood chips?
Of course it’s obvious the contrivance of this, is so Stefan and Elena can have their heart to heart after she helps him remove the bullets from his poor wittle heart.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Klaus meets Damon at the house of dead witches, but he’s talking a lot of smack so they teach him a little lesson. I love this little exchange between Damon and Klaus. Damon points out that insulting witches is not the way to go. But when Klaus threatens to end the Bennett line, the witches don’t even hesitate to show him the coffins. All except the most important one.
They will look out for their own first. Klaus makes some empty threats about tearing Damon from limb to limb but Damon calls his bluff because he knows Klaus wants whatever’s in that fourth coffin more than he wants his family.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Alaric seeks out Psycho Meredith to confront her about vervaining and bloodjacking Damon. I love that he has Damon’s back just like Damon had his.
But psycho Meredith seems to think what she did was okay because she’s using the blood to heal people.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Meanwhile Stefan’s still whimpering on the ground like a wounded puppy as Elena attempts to help him remove the wooden chips from his chest.
When they’re out, Stefan takes the time to appreciate that Elena’s changed; he realizes that she’s stronger and tougher. Good observation Stefan. I think here Stefan starts to really ponder whether or not Elena’s better off without him in her life. He has this sort of bittersweet expression on his face, possibly due to the fact that he can’t really take any credit for the way she’s changed.
Elena decides that moment is the best time to come clean about her and Damon’s extracurricular activities.
You know the smooching and all that. She tells him flat out that she kissed Damon.
Few things I want to comment on regarding this scene. First let’s talk about that expression on Stefan’s face, superb acting by Paul Wesley btw. I think there are a lot of emotions flashing across Stefan’s face at this moment and he’s saying a lot without actually saying anything at all. I think he’s anything but surprised though, his face does not seem to suggest that he’s somehow shocked or blindsided by this bit of information. I think this expression held a lot of regret, hurt, and realization that something that was always a sneaking suspicion to him is coming true right before his eyes. In this moment I do genuinely feel bad for Stefan despite him being an asshat for these last few episodes.
Regardless of the fact we all know he didn’t stop loving Elena and probably never will (though he’s had a funny way of showing it lately), and to get the confirmation that she does in fact harbor romantic feelings for his brother has to be heartbreaking for him.
Now in regards to Elena telling Stefan about the kiss, I personally didn’t feel like she owed him to tell him about it considering their relationship status as exes and the crap he pulled with her in the previous episode, but I’m glad she did.
I like that Elena offered no apologies for her actions, telling him that she didn’t feel guilty for kissing Damon. I also think in some ways she tried to protect Damon by taking full ownership of the kiss.
She didn’t say we kissed, or Damon kissed me like she did in the car with Bonnie. She flat out told Stefan that
SHE Kissed Damon. Technically Damon kissed her and she reciprocated, but he initiated. I think Elena feared that if she said it any other way that Stefan would be out to retaliate against Damon in some way and I think she wanted to minimize the tension between the brothers by taking full responsibility for the kiss. I also think it’s because she wanted to kiss him as much as he wanted to kiss her, so there’s really no point of pretending otherwise. Either way I like that Elena doesn’t placate Stefan with any apologies or anything resembling regret or guilt for kissing Damon. She does it for her own conscience and to clear the air. She’s not in the business of keeping secrets between the Salvatores and she just wanted to have everything out in the open. More importantly she doesn’t look saddened but she looks intently at Stefan’s reaction, and I think she’s concerned about his feelings. In these instances I see the tragic aspect of SE's relationship, really from Stefan's perspective.
Stefan is still pretty much speechless as he has now realized one of his biggest fears; he just gets up off the floor and leaves her sitting there.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Anyway Alaric gets a close up of Meredith cheating death at the hospital. Apparently stupid Bill didn’t make it before Tyler ripped him to shreds. Idiot.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
We’re back to Stefan/Elena angst or something resembling it. It’s really one sided at this point. I think despite everything Stefan’s done, Elena still doesn’t like to see him hurting because she’s way to empathetic for her own good, so she goes after him to try and talk some more.
Stefan admits that the whole bridge thing was too far and she thanks him for acknowledging that. I know some seem to think she forgave him, but I don’t think that’s the case. I still don’t think she trusts him as far as she can throw him, but I also don’t think Elena seems much effected by Stefan’s actions of late. This to me is not a good thing.
Usually the people you love have the power to break you completely, they’re betrayals are the hardest to get over, you almost hate them because you love them so much. But I think the fact that Elena so easily pulls herself together and brushes herself off after what Stefan’s done says a lot about where she’s at as far as her feelings for him goes. Not saying she doesn’t love him (it’s doesn’t disappear that easily), but I don’t think it’s that kind of love that can arouse hate or any other deep emotions. Usually that kind of love is too intense for its own good.
She tells him that she didn’t plan to kiss Damon, which IMO is kind of worst than planning it. Not planning it pretty much cements the fact that it was spurred by emotions that Damon evokes from her. Whereas planning it could have less meaningful implications. So I doubt it does much to make Stefan feel any better, but at this point I’m not sure that’s Elena’s intention.
Stefan tells Elena that she shouldn’t have lied to him or ran off with Bonnie the way she did. Uhm sorry Stefan but who died and made you Elena’s dad?
Stefan’s acting like he’s everyone’s father these days, telling people what they can and can’t do. Oh boy, Might be another symptom of BaaadStefan
Elena replies she just wanted to give Bonnie a moment with her mother, without all of the crazy getting in the way. When Stefan corrects her and says “You mean without me getting in the way.” She looks at him and she doesn’t deny it. Once again Stefan has his hurt expression on, and I might just be a wuss because it does get to me.
I think what Stefan’s says is accurately describes how he sees himself in her life right now, like he’s just in the way, especially after learning about her feelings for his brother.
But to be honest, Stefan’s apology was a smidge off putting to me. The timing is really what bothers me. How is it that he chose to show remorse after he learns of Damon and Elena kissing? All a while Elena was crying and pouring her heart out to him on the bridge and he didn’t allow himself to feel or apologize then. What’s more off putting is in the beginning of the episode when he told her not to tempt him, when she asked if he was going to kidnap her again. I’m having a hard time taking this apology as something truly genuine rather something that was said because he feels he needs to start doing some damage control, now that he really feels that Elena could be lost to him do to her developing feelings for his brother. This apology couldn’t have come at a more convenient time. Tsk! Tsk! Stefan!
“You’re better than him. You’re better than both of us.”
This line right here got everyone in a tizzy. For me once again, it’s really not a matter of what he says. Though I don’t believe that Elena is somehow better than Damon or Stefan, I do believe the brothers are no better than each other overall. Like I said it’s not what he says, it’s when he says it and the circumstances and the situation in which he does. After learning that his brother and EX-girlfriend both have a romantic interest in each other, this sounds like Stefan trying to tell Elena “Look, Damon is really no better than me.”
And the fact that he says him first (meaning Damon), and adds himself as an afterthought is really telling, that this statement is at least half born out of jealousy. Stefan never spoke these words when he and Elena were together, but once she confirms romantic feelings for his brother all of a sudden they’re both not good enough for her? Hmmm I don’t know how I feel about that.
But aside from that I think this statement shows that Stefan opinion of Damon’s presence in Elena’s life is still a bit inaccurate, and it might have a lot to do with the fact that he doesn't really understand their relationship, to make that kind of judgement. He was only afforded a glimpse of what Damon and Elena’s relationship is like when Klaus compelled him to protect the doppelganger. There’s still a lot that he hasn’t seen when it comes to these two, and this is why he made that statement. Stefan doesn’t realize that Damon is partly responsible for this new and improved Elena that he’s seeing. This girl who’s tougher, stronger and a lot more in tuned with who she is. His brother’s presence in her life has afforded her that new found confidence and strength that we’re seeing, by simply being there supporting her and protecting her. This Elena that Stefan seems to like more is half due to his brother, so I’m not sure we’re supposed to take Stefan’s words at face value. Stefan is notorious for saying things (especially in regards to Damon) that are immediately contradicted.
“You’ll never have her respect.” –Damon not only has her respect, but her implicit trust.
“There’s no humanity left in Damon.” Or something to that effect.—this is immediately contradicted as he’s saying it.
So yeah, I think it’s one of those things that Stefan says with really no merit, as he doesn’t know much about what he’s speaking about.
Other than that, I know Stefan includes himself on the list of people Elena is better than, but I still think it’s hugely unfair to his brother. Stefan has plenty reason to believe himself unworthy of Elena these days, as he’s done some very terrible things to her these last few episodes, but his brother has really been on the other side of the spectrum in regard to hurting Elena this season, and he’s more than made up for his past actions and earned her forgiveness.
But you know what? I think this scene highlights the tragedy that is the Salvatore brother’s relationship. They’re both so self hating that it just seeps out of their interactions with each other and everyone else. I think Stefan’s own issues make him incapable of seeing the good in his brother. It’s like he projects it onto Damon, because he DOES identify himself as the “good” brother and Damon is somehow beneath him. I really think Stefan was taught to think this way by his father (but that’s another long analysis) so he’s hardly to blame. All of the Salvatore brother’s issues can be traced back to their human lives and the relationships they had with their father and Katherine. Anyways just because Stefan can no longer identify with being the good brother doesn’t necessarily allow him to see Damon any different no matter how much Damon has changed for the better. In his mind no matter how bad he is Damon has to be at least as bad or worst.
I thought about this after watching the episode and before I could even write it down it was all over tumblr. I guess the people I follow tend to think like me. I compared Stefan’s quote to what Damon told Elena the first time he confessed his love to her. Though I have to say I didn’t exactly interpret it the exact same way.
“I don’t deserve you, but my brother does.”
I think this statement while we all saw it as selfless (and maybe to some degree it was) I actually find it a little devastating, because it shows that Damon is just as self loathing as Stefan is. But on top of this, Damon is incredibly self depreciating; and usually has no self esteem. I don’t know if people interpret Damon the same way as I do, but as cocky and sure as he seems of himself, it’s really all an act. I think this statement is proof of that. Damon always somehow sees himself as less than Stefan in every way. So he tells Elena that he doesn’t deserve her and Stefan does. Damon’s self loathing affects him in a different way than his brother’s; he has no faith in his ability to do good. It’s been drilled in his head over and over again from the people who were supposed to love him (Father, Katherine, Stefan-actually does love him) that he’s incapable of doing any good. So he believes it. Hey general consensus and all right? But this inaccurate perception of who he is in comparison to Stefan causes him to resent Stefan, and often times express jealousy toward him.
You can literally see Damon disappear inside himself when anyone gives him a compliment or expresses gratitude or appreciation for his presence in their life; most notably on that porch scene with Elena.
Anyway, I think these two quotes say a lot about the dysfunctional nature of the Salvatore’s relationship. They love each other, but they’re both so full of self hate that it really tears them apart. Stefan’s is incapable of seeing the good in his brother which results in Damon doubting his own ability to be good, which causes him to have serious resentment and jealousy towards Stefan. Both brothers are trapped in this vicious cycle of self loathing and I believe it’s the reason that Katherine was easily able to get in between them in the first place. They’re relationship was damaged long before she even became a factor. This is why I don’t ever agree to claims that Katherine ruined their relationship, she may have come between them, but their relationship was already damaged to begin with. Even as they smiled and played as humans, these issues still lied beneath the surface.
Okay CRAP! How did this recap turn into a Stefan/Damon analysis?
These Salvatore brothers are so screwed up I can literally write a freaking 30 page analysis on everything that’s wrong with the both of them.
Anyway Bonnie and her mom are having another heart to heart. Bonnie is right not to trust her yet, she has to earn it. But it’s clear that Abby cares somewhat, at least now she does anyway. I guess she’s a teeny weeny bit redeemed by the end of this episode.
Alaric and Crazy Meredith are back at the Gilbert house, and Alaric is sharing all his secrets with this crazy heifer, and is it me or does he actually steal his ring? I don’t recall her ever giving it back. Boy if something happens to Alaric I will not be amused.
Elena walks in on the pair smooching away and Alaric gets all flustered and cute and he’s rambling all kinds of apologies,
but Elena reassures him that it’s his place too. She reminds him that Jenna is gone, the needed him and he stayed, so it’s perfectly okay for him to move on if he’s ready. For some reason I think this echoes Elena’s own thoughts about her relationship with Stefan. The words that are used can easily be applied to the situation she has with him. Anyway I always love to see Ric and Elena being there for each other, it warms my heart.
Stefan is back at the boarding house and he finds Damon relaxing by the fire place. Stefan’s anger is controlled in this scene until Damon makes the innocent mistake of inquiring about Elena’s well-being.
Stefan loses it and punches him. Damon takes the punch , and when he realizes Stefan doesn’t want to talk about it, he turns his attention to more important matters, as he holds up the dagger.
I actually loved this scene between the brothers. I thought Stefan’s reaction was spot on (another well acted scene by PW), you could tell he was barely masking his anger but knowing what he knew and having Damon even utter Elena’s name became too much for him and he lost it. Do I think he was right or justified in punching Damon, of course not.
But understandably he’s upset, jealous and at the moment he feels betrayed. That’s exactly the reaction that I expected from him. I don’t think Elena and Damon did anything wrong, but Stefan’s going through the motions right now and on top of the guilt Damon feels for his feelings or even for kissing Elena, I think he understands how his brother feels. He offers to talk about it, but obviously it’s too soon, so he drops it and focuses his attention elsewhere. I think soon enough Stefan will have to face the fact that this whole thing between Damon and Elena is as much his doing as it is theirs. Everyone had a hand in the way things happened, and Stefan should realize this at some point, but right now I guess he’s allowed to have a reaction no matter how irrational or misplaced it seems.
Klaus gets his family back but he has no plan of reuniting just yet. Just as he’s about to leave his hybrid is killed and Elijah shows up behind him, asking what did he miss? Klaus’s expression is priceless.
Oh and thank you guys for reading my rambling thoughts.
Let me know what you all think, whether you agree or not on my take on things. I have to admit, I can over-analyze sometimes or not analyze enough.
