This is a good point about Stelena: From Tumblr: realdestinationI’m going to analyze the latest Stelena scene from 4x16, because it proves again some things, all based on Stefan’s words, and how it eventually opposes with Delena essence. Elena was asking Stefan : “Why do you care what I do and who I kill?”, and I bolded his answer, dividing it, because it gives us two conclusions. “Because it’s my fault that you’re like this. I brought this into your life.”: I find this statement interesting because it can be interpreted in many ways. Maybe Stefan was thinking about the fact that his came back and staying in MF because he HAD to meet Elena, brought the whole vampire story in her life. Maybe. But I think that Stefan was thinking more about the fact that she BECAME a vampire because he let her die and didn’t save her from drowning in 3x22. Even tho it’s hard to catch up with all Stefan statements lately, I believe that Stefan was thinking about this when he mentioned his guilt. The proof why I think that is this scene: 4x01: Damon: Then you shouldn’t have let her die. Stefan: I never meant for her to die….I made a choice that I will regret for the rest of my life. Now let me try to fix it.
So, why Stefan cares what Elena does and who she kills? Not because of Elena per se, but because of HIM and HIS own guilty. He can’t live with his conscience, so controlling Elena and watching what she does and who she kills helps HIM to feel better about himself. Because big part of Stefan’s intention to find the cure “for Elena” is because it will FIX his wrong choice to not save Elena. It will FIX his regret. “Look, I’ve killed hundreds of people, and I have to live with that, but I’m not gonna live with the people that you kill or what that’ll do to you.”: This is the other part of Stefan’s intention to cure Elena- HE is not ready to live with the fact that Elena as a vampire kills people and what that will do to her. Basically, what he’s saying is that HE has no intention to tolerate her lifestyle. This statement was clear- it’s not about Elena, it’s about him. It actually reminded me on Elena words to Stefan: 3x07: Elena: Feel something, anything, Stefan. Cuz if you don’t you’re gonna lose me forever. I won’t love a ghost for the rest of my life.
So, as the conclusion, we can see once more how this relationship works. Elena wasn’t ready to wait for Stefan if he remains the way he was in that time. Stefan is not ready to live with Elena’s vampire lifestyle. And this is not demonstration of some great love. On the contrary, it shows us how conditional it is. The whole essence is the fact that neither Stefan neither Elena were ready to love each other in their worst. They both love/d only one part of each other, never accepting their whole personality. On the other side, Damon and Elena proved that they accept and love each other. Just the way they are. Either way. |

Well I think Stelena is a codependent relationship based on using their "love" to be in constant denial about who they are and what they feel. With Elena, Stefan can be in denial about his dark side and with Stefan, Elena can be in denial about her own dark side.
About that posting above, I always feel like Stefan helps Damon too because he feels guilty for Damon being a vampire too.

So the other day I saw a SE fan say this:
‘Daily reminder that Stefan fought the compulsion for Elena over three times and Damon didn’t fight it at all.’
Well then.
Daily reminder that Damon stopped in his tracks at the mere sound of Elena’s voice. Daily reminder that he was willing to die so he wouldn’t hurt Jer and told Jer to shoot him. Daily reminder that 10 minutes later he stopped again and told Jeremy to shoot him and was willing to die AGAIN. Daily reminder that Damon still did this although it wasn't even Elena he was trying not to hurt. Daily reminder that even after almost every single person on the show told him Elena doesn't love him he still did this. Daily f-in reminder that he wasn't even sure if Elena loved him because of the sire bond and yet he was STILL willing to die for Jer. Daily reminder that because he was sure that she didn't love him, he didn't even know if it would gain him any points or anything, and yet HE WAS STILL WILLING TO DIE so he wouldn't hurt Jeremy.
In my opinion, I prefer Damon willing to die for Jeremy much more than ‘oh Stefan resisted compulsion 3 times for their epic luv’.

So I just saw a Stelena shipper saying the following (But I’m not quoting)
That all the times Damon selfishly force-fed Elena his blood and in the end it was his blood that she unwillingly had in her that turned her into a vampire, and look where that has gotten her, and if you can’t see how the writers meant that as a way to show how wrong Damon is for Elena than you’re seriously delusional

You do realize you have a serious case of twisting-facts, don’t you?!!!
Damon’s blood in Elena’s system actually saved her life TWICE, once form the bleeding brain, and the second time was when STEFAN LET HER DIE!!!!!
You want to know what got her where she is now?!! it’s the lack of support she got from EVERYONE around her, the fact that no one-EXCEPT DAMON- accepted her the way she is now or helped her accept her new-self which led her to desperatly wishing to take the cure so that she wouldn’t lose the people she cared about, it’s STEFAN who refused to listen to Damon when he told him they needed to find a new hunter and turned Jeremy into a blind killing machine because he wanted to fix Elena and be a real boy himself once again, it’s the crazy race for the stupid cure -started by Stefan- that eventually led to Jeremy’s death
Elena’s big problem isn’t becoming a vampire … she was actually willing to accept it and learn to make the most of it .. she was so happy with Damon because he showed her the love and support she didn’t find with anyone else and after that she seemed to be enjoying herself and her super powers and laughing about it in her “girls night”
Elena’s main problem was having to live to everyone’s expectations … That’s what got her where she is now, and that is what I believe this whole emotionless!Elena storyline is meant to teach her, that when it’s all said and done Elena will learn to love herself and be who she is and the hell with any one else judging her actions or choices or pointing a finger at her for doing what she really wants

This alone is a good reason nobody should still ship Stelena. Stefan is always so willing to give up his 'epic' love for Elena and this is just one example of it. He's done it several times now. You'll never have to chase him across the country to try to get him to come back to you. Elena may have loved Stefan, but Stefan obviously didn't love Elena as much as he proclaimed when times were good. Contrast that to Damon always being there for Elena even when she didn't love him, even when she was downright mean to him and most recently saying, "I'm still here," even after she chose his brother over him yet again. Why? Because he LOVES her. It's as obvious as the nose on my face that he is the brother that truly loves her. This is relationship 101 stuff here. If you don't already know this stuff you should, and Stefan is showing us that he is NOT Elena's epic love, all the freaking time. He's showing us that she isn't the most important person to him in the world. He let her die for gosh sakes! How many of us would let someone we love die when they don't have to, simply because they wanted us to save someone else first? Not me! Elena is just an 18 year old girl and she's still figuring this stuff out, but she has Damon's love now to show her the contrast in what is real and what is not. Stefan's love is just like Stefan is, a fake, a cheap imitation, a mimic of what love should be. Just as he came to Mystic Falls to start a new life, for himself, not for Elena, he loves himself, not Elena. |
