It is said that Kat could be in contention to play Young Storm in the up and coming X-Man Apocalipse movie, and in the article, they outline all the virtues of the Bonnie Bennett character and why Kat playing her,, makes her more then suitable for the role, they clearly see the similiarities between the two characters, here is what they have to say about how Bonnie Bennett relates to Storm.
Bonnie Bennett really is the true heroine of this show.......

Wait Bonnie's not an orphan. Well her parents kinda sucked but Grams was there for her all the way along... Anyway, I'd love to see her play that role. I do think she'd be perfect for it.

Technically she is and also in the eyes of the law she would be regarded as one, her Grams is dead, Silas killed her father, and her mother is now one of the undead a vampire, and has yet again abandoned her daughter, so without any family around her, that makes her an orphan like Matt and Tyler. The others have some sort of relative around them, Elena and Jeremy have each other because they are cousins raised as brother and sister due to Elena being adopted by Jeremy's parents her Aunt and Uncle, they are even related to Aleric through marriage as he is both Step dad and Step uncle to Elena and Jeremy because he was married to Elena's biological mother. Although, they fight Damon and Stefan have each other because they are brothers, and for the moment Caroline has her mother. So the only people who have no family around them at all are Bonnie, Matt and Tyler.

Technically yes, she is an orphan as you can be labeled such as a teen or an adult. But I think generally when most people think of an orphan, they are labeling a child who has been abandoned or parents have died while they are too young to support themselves. I don't know the back story on Storm and which she would be classified as. KG would be great in that role for sure.

Well her Mom's not Dead dead...and she did have family that raised her, like her Grams and her Dad so I guess it depends on your definition of an orphan because she does still have a mother even if she is a vampire. Poor Bonnie never even had a house for a long time. They just seemed to throw her Mom and her Dad in when it was convenient but she was always going to her Dad's until he died which was pretty recent. To me an orphan is someone who has no parents at all from a young age because they are dead and Bonnie doesn't qualify as an orphan in my opinion. As for adults, I've never heard of any adults being called orphans or else we'd all be orphans eventually when our parents died.

Per the first definition, we have a lot of "orphans" running around in this world. I don't consider anyone on this show an orphan in the sense that I know the word. As long as they are old enough to get a job and support themselves when parents die/leave, I would consider them an adult by force, lol.

Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec and Kat herself explaining about the Bonnie character, and how she stands her ground, how she is true to herself, and how she has to adjust to every new crisis that befalls her, how she has to make decisions that are both popular and unpopular. They explain the history of mistrust between the witches and vampires, everything for Bonnie is not black and white, she has to adjust to every new situation. A very good Q & A session from Comic Con in New York, 2010. An excellent analysis of the Bonnie character, plus other stuff involving TVD. Love how both Kevin and Julie pointed out how Bonnie is true to herself, and stands her ground, I would say she remains the same today. And who she is has had a definate impact on Damon, after they bonded in the 1994 Mystic Falls and AU world.
