The Vampire Diaries: How Bonnie Bennett Became the Best Character The explosive (so many characters will die) finale may kill our new faith. Nevertheless, for now, we want to revel in the beauty that has been Bonnie Bennett this season. Bonnie has always had potential to be an interesting, epic character. But for some odd reason, her potential gets squandered before it reaches completion. The Vampire Diaries season 6 was a strong one for Bonnie, her best yet. We finally saw the badass Bennett, well become a badass. Here are some of the ways she rocked this season. Igniting a Thousand Shipping Wars Currently, Tumblr is a war zone for people who ship Bonnie with certain problematic male characters. Bonkai (Kai and Bonnie) and Bamon (Damon and Bonnie) fans have been feuding for months about who deserves Bonnie more. It’s been a bloodbath.  Then there are some fans who would totally be fine with some sort of weird co-habitation situation with Bonnie, Damon, and Kai (Bonkaimon fans).  Meanwhile, executive producer Julie Plec probably plans to bamboozle everyone and have Monnie (Bonnie and Matt) finally become canon within the series. But She Has Been Shutting Down Your Ship Since 1994 Bonnie is too sensible for toxic boys. As fun as Bonkai should could have been, it seems too untrue to Bonnie’s character to just forgive and date Kai. We ship Bonnie being awesome and not excusing toxic behavior more than anything else. But if the said toxic boy/s has a really good redemption arc…then it’s okay? No, we’ll go sit in the corner for our trashy shipping ways. She’s “Plucky” Bonnie’s rivalry with Kai has heighten the character to new emotional depth. If you didn’t cheer when Bonnie scolded Damon on “Because,” then we question all of your life choices. It showed that Bonnie has finally, rightfully, gained her place as the epic witch we all hope she would become. Davina Claire, who?

While Still Remaining the Loyal, Humble, Friend She’s Always Been
Bonnie may have decided to stop dying for people (finally!), but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t care anymore. Even though her friends were too busy to rescue her from a prison world, she is still there to listen to them. If it’s not planning a party for Jo, who she barely knows, or letting Damon get his man-pains out the way, she’s ensuring the Heretics don’t return to kill everyone. And she does all this without being petty and expecting thank yous. We mean that would be super petty of Bonnie to think she should be thanked for all she does to protect her friends.
She’s Bringing Sassy Back
Bonnie has gotten a lot sassier this season, maybe it’s the Damon influence. She basically says what everyone is thinking. Here are a few of our favorite Bonnie sass gems from this season, thus far.
Guy: “I can’t help it. You’re hot.” (He pulls Bonnie toward him and kisses her neck, Bonnie brings her hand up to his and uses her magic to burn him) “Aah, aah, aah, aah, aah!” (He cries in pain, pulling his hand away) “What the hell did you do”?
Bonnie: “Can’t help it. I’m hot.” (He stares at Bonnie shocked as she walks past him).
Bonnie (to Elena): “What if human you doesn’t love Damon?”
Bonnie (to Kai): “Gaining your trust, and then stabbing you in the back? Feels pretty sucky, doesn’t it?”
Bonnie (to Kai): “Giving up so soon? I’m embarrassed for you.”
She Wears Her Hero Hair
Rumor has it that Bonnie will lead an epic battle against Kai on The Vampire Diaries season 6. We love Kai, but we are looking forward to Bonnie making him look like an idiot.
With Nina Dobrev (unfortunately) no longer in the series, we hope Kat Graham continues to get to show the many shades of Bonnie. The girl definitely deserves a little spotlight, especially considering how many times she’s died.
