I came to rant about this:
-------------------------------------------
How difficult of a line is it to walk with what you’re doing with Stefan and how far you can push it before he’s no longer redeemable?
Williamson: "It’s hard because the sad part about it is that Stefan is such a man of character. He has such a good soul.
And now, he’s taken this horrible turn, so no matter what he does, at this point, he’s never going to be able to forgive himself. So, if he can’t forgive himself, how can he ever expect forgiveness from a woman that loves him? He’s never going to be lovable again, in his eyes. He has such a journey.
It’s so sad to watch because now he’s in tragic mode. He’s a true tragic hero, in the greatest sense, even more so now then Damon ever was.
It is a fine line to walk, and I hope we’re playing it with just enough tragedy that the audience can hold onto him and nurture him, even though he does go down that terrible road. It is a tragic fall. I’m hoping it’s one of those situations where the audience will love him until he can learn to love himself again.
That’s what’s happening. We love Damon and, every week, Damon was killing someone new. When he killed Lexi, I hated him after that, and it was my idea. I knew it would turn the audience against him."

The larger parts are truly puke worthy-- especially coming from KW.
What. The. Hell. Kevin.
I'm sick of hearing either from the show (Emily) that Stefan has a pure heart or soul or whatever.
I've seen nothing that shows that Stefan's anymore pure than Damon is.
Stefan taking Elena to the bridge her parents died on, making her think her life was going to end there and that she would be turned-- after everything she told him before about not wanting to be a vampire-- that was all done for selfish reasons. Because he believes she wouldn't love him the same anymore. Because Klaus took everything from him.
Blah, blah, blah.
All I see is Stefan hurting the people who care about him and then trying to make THEM feel guilty that he's doing it.
In S02 Damon was out saving Caroline and Tyler's lives while Stefan and Elena weren't the least bit preoccupied with the idea of who Klaus planned to sacrifice ALONG WITH ELENA.
Or what about when Stefan actually joked about Alaric doing Damon's bidding-- when he himself wasn't trying to help at all when Rose was dying? That sure showed how much Stefan cares about others beyond what serves his selfish needs, right?
Stefan admitted in S01 that when it came to Katherine, he wanted her to himself and he didn't care how his brother felt- and honestly, since he met Elena, it's been the same way. At least Damon has showed a guilty conscience for his feelings for Elena on more than one occasion.
And as far as Stefan being a hero-- again, I just don't see it.
I really think Stefan, after all he's done to Elena-- from the way he went about building a relationship with her, to putting his brother in a bad light from the beginning, and making himself be seen in a good one, to his most recent stunt of the bridge--- I just really don't see how Stefan is seen as a hero in any light- not with Elena, because his love for her has only ever been selfish-- and not with others.
Kevin is expecting something that he just isn't gonna get with me-I can't believe he'd even compare the two.

Ewww....I agree with you. Stefan sucks so bad. He's nowhere near anywhere as interesting as Damon. You know you'd think these writers would look at what their fans think once in a while and quit trying to spoon feed us crap we don't want to eat. I get that he has to keep the Stelena side happy, too, in order to keep all their fans, but it's just not believable alot of the stuff they try to tell us is fact.

Yeah, alot of that is projection on his part of what he THINKS we like about the show or what we liked about Damon but it is so much more than the 'tragic hero' thing. Stefan does not move me and Stefan never will move me. I've concluded this having given him as much of a chance as possible to be moved. I thought the ripper might do it but it only made matters worse. I've never once had any kind of emotional reaction to Stefan other than strong dislike and I'm not made of stone. I'm generally a very empathetic person. But I do not like his character. I think they killed that possibility with me in season 1 when he was so darn self righteous and nasty to Damon. Then he goes and says crap about Damon yet again last episode, and it all just came crashing back into my mind the way he's done it all along and I despise him for it. It's hard to explain but to me Damon has been the one who has always stood by Stefan. Stefan has not stood by Damon. Stefan's reasons for saving Damon have been selfish in my mind. I mean, I appreciate that he's done it, but it seemed more about keeping his brother around for himself even though he thinks he's a piece of junk than about Damon himself and maybe even a little bit of wanting to be this hero he perceives himself to be and come in and save the day. It isn't even that he's been with Elena when I want Damon to be with Elena. I just flat out have never liked him. So they can try to make me like him for the rest of the darn series, but it isn't going to happen. It's not just me either. I convinced a friend to watch it with me and I didn't tell her anything about what I thought of Stefan. In fact I was curious to see if she'd go Stelena or Delena. It took all of 3 episodes for her to look at me and say, "I really don't like that Stefan guy." In fact her reaction was so strong that it was a dealbreaker for her because she said if he's one of the main characters she doesn't want to watch him every week. Ugh..it makes me wonder if there would have been a way to make him more likeable. On the surface you'd think that Damon would make people have that reaction with his caustic nature, but then people don't always just look at the surface of things. So Stefan, tragic hero? He's tragic alright, tragic that I have to see his mug on my TV every week. Maybe it's Ian. Maybe Ian put something into Damon that they never really intended to show us about Damon, but yet, it matches the book Damon so I dunno. How can the writers miss the fact that Damon is the sympathetic one? He overshadows Stefan in such a huge way that Stefan is basically a wannabe tragic hero, a knock off, a factory second. They shouldn't even try to do that. They should have kept him going in the direction he was going. I really wonder if he's gained anything in likeability from this story arc.

Ah, here we go from the article: It’s a great love story because everybody loves everybody. No matter how much they hate each other, everybody loves everybody. It’s a perfect three-way, if they would all just come together. If they could all get along, it would be a hot time. I think he's endorsing CAKE!
