I mean I'm sure he knew what was going to happen when Elena and Damon came into his room.
Damon even told him "It's time for one of our little talks." And he knows what happened the last time they had one of those. I'd think he'd catch on before Damon had a chance to compel him, so he'd take off running or at least put up a fight if he didn't want to. Also he did say something about them packing their bags and getting out of town. So maybe he wanted it.
What do you guys think?

I'm not sure it was really necessary to compel him. I think Jeremy wanted to go, but since Elena wasn't going to leave, maybe he wouldn't have left without being compelled and that was the reasoning. I don't know. On the other hand, maybe they were clearing Jeremy out of the Gilbert house so Elena and Damon can have crazy wild DEX all over the darn place...

I find it weird that they get rid of Jeremy when he seems to have come into his own a bit now. Sure, the Bonnie/Ghost thing was an assassination of his character but in this episode, we saw him confront Tyler and even take out one of these "Oh So Bad, Tip the Balance" Hybrids by himself. Read that last part again: JEREMY, THE HUMAN, TOOK OUT A HYBRID ON HIS OWN. He's finally got a pair and is showing them off in his actions and attitude and they send him away. I don't really know how to feel about it and I'm usually negative/neutral on Jeremy.

I think Jeremy didnt want to fight the compulsion although he told Elena he was just talking nonsense about leaving, maybe he really had enough of it. But Im glad they just didnt kill him off. This is what I see happening: When we eventually get Jeremy Back it will be some sought of threat. They will find Jeremy as Bait and drag his ass back to Mystic Falls lol and etc etc. Wonder if they will give him his vervain bracelet. Denver is pretty far

Everyone is up in arms about this i thought it was sweet and sad! I cried. I think Jer needed an out. Jer did not want to decapitate a hybrid nor did he want to be someone Klaus used to get the attention of his sister. Jer has lost so much! he has lost his friends, loves and family! The kid needed to go off and be normal for awhile. They didn't compel him to forget about what happened or what makes him who he is they compelled him to go and to not think or want to come back.
Yes he has free will and should be able to use it but I can totally relate to Elena in this instance. You do what you have to do to protect the ones you love. Jeremy is all she has left people! He is it. I would have done it too. And Jeremy didn't fight them off either...
I'm wondering with all of the hints he wanted this to happen. I'm sad he is leaving but I think we will see him again. I hope!

I hope! I agree. I think it was a touching moment, and I understand why Elena did it. It must have been hard to watch her little brother decapitate a man right before her eyes. Even she had to turn away from it, so seeing her baby brother being completely desensitized to that kind of violence must be alarming, and you have to wonder what it's doing to his psyche. And I agree he needed an out and Elena did what needed to do to protect him. As to why they sent him away even though be proved he could protect himself.... I think it's just that... He's 16 and human, from an reasonable and emotional standpoint he really shouldn't have to learn to behead hybrids to ensure the his safety or the safety of his family. It only takes away his innocence as a young boy and turn him into a cold and detached individual and Alaric and Elena want better for him, they want him to have a chance. Also the reason I made this thread is actually because I think Jeremy did really want that out. Deep down he wants to live a normal life, but of course he would have just leave his family behind, so he would choose to stay and fight with them. They gave him the out that he desperately needed.

I think people are forgetting that he tried to kill himself. The kid has had everything ripped from him and he has already shown that it hurts too much and he tried to kill himself and turn into a vampire. He has come along way since then but he is 16 and teenagers emotions are at an all time high during those defining years and he really deserves happiness and safety somewhere else. Coming from a parent standpoint I think it was the best thing for Jer. The most healthy thing for him! Even the safest thing for him!

“Here’s the thing Jer. You’re going to go out of town for awhile. A long while. You’re going to stay with some nice family friends in Denver. You’re going to be at a new school and meet new girls, living girls. You’re going to drink a few beers, take an art class…you do whatever you want. You’re going to leave Mystic Falls behind and never think twice about it. You’re going to have a better life Jeremy.” © JENN 2012

I hope! I completely agree with you. I know it isn't really a decision you should make for someone-- but in this situation, I understand Elena's actions. Honestly though, what Tyler said keeps ringing in my ears--- "Klaus isn't done with you."

Elena traded Jeremy's safety for Bekah. But I could probably see Klaus still coming after him after how royally screwed over he was by Elena with the Bekah deal (which she didn't have to tell him but it's Elena...).
I don't forget that Jeremy tried to kill himself and has been killed before (by Damon) but I think given the circumstances of what's going on, he's matured well enough into the hand he's been dealt. Quite a few hurdles he's had to get over (suicide, dead girlfriends, losing parents/family) but for him to be able to now defend himself and those he loves without being shaken by it, I think it's progress if you could call it anything.
Shouldn't they be sending Matt away too? He's really got nothing left in the town either so they might as well put him on the same Greyhound bus with Jeremy and have them watch out for each other.

I wouldn't mind... But I doubt because he isn't her little brother. Yes he has jumped and overcame many hurdles but he is still 16. I guess I can see how one would wanna protect their little bro. In a way she has always protected him even raised him in a way once their parents died. If anything happened to him Elena would crumble. I think it was for Jer's sake but I also think it was partly for Elena. She needed her brother to be happy. For him to have something normal. it was the only thing she could give him in this messed up world that they lived in. She needed to make sure he was safe and away from the crap! I think she did it for him but she also did it for herself. She couldn't live with herself if she had that option and didn't take it and Jer died.

Little brother or not, Matt runs the same risks. He's human and has on occasions taken on tasks that put his life in danger. He's had a crappy life himself (dead sister, parents aren't around, juggling school and work to pay bills, etc.) so I think he deserves a break as well. In his case though, he lacks a ring that Jeremy & Alaric have.
Once again, the show doesn't help me with the whole '16' thing. But yeah, the main reason she's getting rid of him is because she's lost too much in the span of the year from her family tree: both parents before the series started, John, Isobel & Jenna in one short stretch. Jeremy is it for her. Once they get this squared away with Klaus, I think even then, she'll give it some time to see if any more crap hits the fan before they go and check in on him.
I know the end goal is ridding themselves of Klaus but...Stefan stealing the coffins...hmm...
LATE EDIT: Although from what we saw in this past episode, Stefan's goal is to make Klaus pay. He didn't seem to really care about Jeremy's safety in this state of mind. Damon and to a very lesser extent, Elena is all that seems to register with him. So whatever Hell comes the way of the gang, it's fine by him as long as he gets a rise out of Klaus and ultimately leads to his demise/suffering.

I understand why Elena did that, but she took away his choices. That is something he never stood by. Sure, part of Jeremy wants a normal life and a huge part of him is beyond sick of what is going on, but the other part of him was so fascinated by the supernatural and always wanting to get involved to help the ones he loves. Jeremy would NEVER I repeat never in a million years leave Elena alone to deal with Klaus. He said he wanted them ALL to pack their bags in the heat of the moment and leave town together. Later when Elena asked him about it, he said he didn't really mean any of that. When Jeremy comes back, he's really going to be furious with Elena. Again, I understand Elena completely and it broke her heart for her to do it, but I'll be on Jeremy's side and I see his point of view. I wouldn't blame him for being mad at what she did.
I'm really gonna miss Jeremy. He stepped up his game in this episode and he was awesome. I loved every minute of seeing him on my screen.

Elena would not be able to handle it if anything happened to Jeremy. Watching him chop the head off of that hybrid made her realize there are things happening to him that are as bad as him getting hurt physically. Jeremy has alot of issues to begin with. Elena saw that his innocence is being stripped away from him . She did what she did to protect him but also to protect herself. She can't watch what is happning to him. It hurts. I'm gonna miss the Jer bear. Hopefully he will be back someday. And as far as Matt goes. He is on his own. He takes care of himself. He is in his last year of highschool. He has lived there his entire life. He already feels alone as it is. He isn't going to leave the only home he's known, or his friends.
