Really, after this episode, the Witches getting all uptight about Klaus being one seems unfounded with the idea that his 'Army' was actually going to be a threat to the 'Balance'. Klaus is a granted threat because he's an Original on top of that but his underlings, not so much. We saw in the episode prior, Damon ripped the heart out of one without so much as a struggle and Mikael went and found a loophole in their design with his first confrontation with them and compelled some over to his side. Now come this past episode, we see little old Jeremy, the human with no special powers (seeing Ghosts still counts or is it moot since it hasn't been happening after they got rid of them?) take one down on his own. They're worthless. They just stand around and look menacingly at whoever Klaus tells them to and are nothing more than cannon fodder.

Yeah they have failed badly with the hybrids. However, having this army of werewolf/vampires would have very likely wiped out that little town pretty fast if they had the power that they should have, don't you think? I think they shouldn't have gone the route of making it easy for Klaus to make hybrids because then they had to dumb them down so they wouldn't be overpowered and that just seems stupid.

Well what makes it Dumb is that they have an easy way to die well sort of lol, they either get their heart ripped out or their heads chopped off. Why cant they just do that Klaus? He is making an army of Hybrids that dont have any training I guess? Or do not know the element of surprise. Hence Damon ripping out the heart and then Jeremy shooting one and chopping off his head. Maybe we will see them in full action within the next couple of weeks

Maybe we will see them in full action within the next couple of weeks Klaus & Mikael had the conversation in the past episode where Klaus said his Hybrids could rip Mikael apart and he said it wouldn't kill him so I doubt chopping Klaus' head off would work. Makes you wonder if Elijah's plan to rip out the heart would have worked =\ I've mentioned before that Klaus should be giving these Hybrids proper training. Element of surprise shouldn't matter. Between the Werewolf ability to pick up on scents and Vampire hearing, they should be aware when someone approaches them. They're really downplaying the ultra keen senses when it suits them. Damon could hear a conversation all the way in the basement but the 'Jogger' Hybrid couldn't hear Jeremy approaching a few feet behind him and the release of the bolt from the Crossbow? Hell, Tyler was minding his own business and sensed Jeremy behind him IN THE VERY SAME EPISODE. Like Mikael, they've built up the threat so much beforehand that it's falling on it's face when you finally see it.

This is also kind of a problem that they quickly remedied. Klaus & Stefan spent 2 months looking for a pack of Wolves and when they finally found them, the change didn't work and Klaus was devastated. Klaus leaves MF for a week or two and finds a 'breeding ground' for Werewolves so he can just steadily build his army? What? If Werewolves were as 'precious' as they were at the beginning of S3, I think he'd be taking better care of his Hybrids due to the work involved in making more (finding Werewolves). But since finding Werewolves isn't an issue anymore, he just throws them at whatever 'threat' all willy-nilly and lets them fend for themselves.

My new theory is that hybrids lose brain cells when they are turned. What is up with their lack of EVER being aware someone is behind them ready to kill them? Jeremy, Damon and Elijah all killed one from behind in recent episodes. I thought their wolfy senses would only be heightened by their vampire senses, but nope! They're like these brainless, mindless, sire slaves who have no awareness whatsoever. It's kind of sad really, being as they were supposed to be this super race but instead they are the show's vehicle for gratuitous violence, the red shirts of TVD.

The show has an issue keeping with the senses, even when it comes to Klaus. You would think the Werewolves would have better senses but they've only been shown to have better smell. Even with that, you should be able to tell when someone new is nearby. The fact that Jeremy can sneak up on a Hybrid is damning evidence. The fact that no one heard a coffin open and Elijah probably pranced and did a 2-step up to the back of the Hybrid and had a few seconds to think up a catchy line is telling. They're just *SO* stupid and it makes me cry

Well I could see Elijah being able to sneak up behind him being a vampire and being able to move at hyperspeed. The element of surprise would be there because they wouldn't have time to sense/smell him, but yeah, like why didn't Klaus know he was talking to Katherine and not Elena during the Homecoming episode, and there's another glaring thing, he didn't seem to care if she got killed in that episode but now he cared when Stefan was going to drive her off the bridge? It's inconsistent.

The ONLY excuse I can think of is that the hybrids are all new to the vamp aspect of their life (death?). Whereas Klaus was a VERY old vampire who was turned into a hybrid so he's had his vamp senses forever. So even though they are hybrids, Elijah still has 1000yrs on them.
Maybe because of the sire bond, they are SO intent on doing Klaus' bidding they lose sense of their surroundings.
I wonder, can you chop off an Original's head? If they were daggered, could you chop off their head?? Damon couldn't burn Elijah (which BTW, it was funny that his clothes didn't totally burn of), why not try chopping off their head?
EDIT: I have never known why vampires can't automatically sense other vampires in this world.

You make good points and this would make sense about the hybrids being new vampires however they already messed up with Klaus. As Slash has pointed out, when Stefan and Klaus were in the forest that one time, Klaus didn't even hear Elena and Damon but Stefan did. It's like Klaus senses aren't as highly developed as you might expect them to be either. You theory on the sire bond makes most sense to me. Wouldn't it have been nice if Elijahs clothes had burned off! The only excuses I could think of as to not being able to chop the head off are: 1. You can't really penetrate an Originals skin all the way 2. Even if you did chop them up, they wouldn't be completely dead. Like the pieces would reconnect themselves somehow. I think I read this in an Anne Rice book. Interview with the Vampire maybe? And since they don't burn then an Original cannot be completely dead.

I dunno Damon penetrated Elijah's skin with a coat rack. It has to be that they regenerate somehow as an Original. Oh and on the sensing each other thing, it seems sort of selective. The only one of them that seems to be able to sense another vampire is nearby is Damon. He also sensed the hybrid a couple episodes ago. Maybe if there are a bunch of them around it wouldn't work so well, but it seems like he is able to anyway.

One thing I don't like is that they've almost taken away the supernatural aspects of vampires from the show. When it started out Damon had some special abilities, not nearly the abilities he had in the books though, but it was still better than nothing. Now we've down to compulsion and lately we rarely even see them eating at all, even from a blood bag. It's like they've slowly humanized them and I don't like it. So forgetting they should be able to sense each other/hybrids seems to be par for the show forgetting they are supposed to be supernatural beings.

I asked myself a few episodes ago why we hardly ever see the 'eye' thing anymore with Vampires. They really do seem to downplay a lot of aspects to the species =\ It's mainly the 'super speed' thing is all we get on a regular basis if that.

They really do seem to downplay a lot of aspects to the species =\ It's mainly the 'super speed' thing is all we get on a regular basis if that. Yeah and Damon is not adverse to the random compulsion here and there, ie the girl at the party who grabbed the bottle of bourbon, Bill, Jeremy. But really other than that they did away with all the interesting aspects of what being a vampire is all about and I don't like it. The allure to me with any vampire tale is not to humanize a vampire. It is to be able to adapt to and live with the beast/demon that is/dwells in the vampire while simultaneously the vampire adapts too but all we ever get is the vamps, a far superior race by the way, having to adapt which isn't even believable in any universe. The books weren't like that. Elena was almost constantly being bitten by one or both brothers voluntarily but that was an aspect of dealing with/living with vampires along with a whole slew of supernatural abilities, most especially that Damon possessed but to a lesser extent Stefan, though muted because of his feeding habits. Examples of the special abilities not addressed in the TV version: Telepathy - Both Damon and Stefan had this ability. As long as the receiver was telepathic as well they could communicate with their minds. Controlling/Changing the weather at will - Damon made it winter/snow storm at one point and Stefan could not change it back. Transformation - Damon could transform into a crow or a black wolf. Healing abilities in their saliva - Both brothers could heal the wounds of others with their saliva. Levitation - both brothers could levitate off the ground, not sure about any real travel that way. Damon would simply shift into the crow to travel fast. That's off the top of my head. They kind of semi-addressed some of it with the 'fog' and the 'crow' he seemed to control but wasn't him, and both of which disappeared by episode 2. Now it takes full vampire blood to heal anyone and risk turning by taking it and it's been stated they cannot fly, just move fast in the show, alot of which has been left by the wayside.
