So Klaus has taken up a permanent residence in Mystic Falls to stick around, probably no thanks in part to Stefan's actions but also because it keeps him close to his Golden Goose, Elena. Everyone is a thorn in the other's ass and everyone is looking to kill the other. Stefan taking the coffins, wanting to kill Klaus' hybrids, Elena & Co. plotting to kill Klaus, Klaus looking to kill Elena's remaining friends and family, etc.. Just an ugly, ugly mess and conflict with everyone trying to out smart the other and stay a step ahead while watching out for their own. Would it be possible to bargain a deal with Klaus? The guy is making their home town his new home (or should we say, he's just setting up shop again) and even seems to have a house big enough for the entire family (telling his Hybrid to take Bekah to her room). He's talked to the Council about letting him go on about his business and in turn, him and his Hybrids would protect the town (that's quite the gain). Now, I'm sure he'll still be up to no good as he's probably always been up to for a millennium+ but would it be a benefit for the gang to reach a compromise so they can stop all this plotting to kill and get on with their lives? Being able to stop looking over their shoulders for a Hybrid trailing them or worrying about if their little Brother is in danger. There would of course be compromises on both sides: - Klaus doesn't bother with any of Elena's friends/Jeremy or people she knows. The 'Elijah Deal' all over again.
- Elena & Co stop the plotting to kill Klaus
- Elena would still give blood when needed (every other month, 6 months, whatever).*
- *However, with the above rule, Klaus would train his Hybrids to actually fight (or someone could, even Damon). By training them, you increase their effectiveness in defending the town and their probability of surviving a fight, therefore less need to make 'replacements' and less frequently needing Elena's blood to make more of them.
I know I'm in the minority of being naive enough to think such a deal would work It's a good deal if something bigger comes their way or if there is something more to the Doppelganger thing as the gang would have the Original Family and an army of Hybrids on their side and the town would be protected from any other threats. If Klaus' Hybrids are on blood packs, aside from wandering Vampires, Vampire attacks would be non-existent in the town which would be a great relief for the Council. The big problems are Elena being used as a blood source still, Klaus being vengeful of the crap Stefan has pulled after getting his family back and then the damage done with Bekah knowing about their mother (also, Klaus killing Jenna). The Elena thing is...hard to reason in some aspects. She'd be giving Werewolves control of their change which would be a God-send for them but at the same time, she's seen first hand the 'sired' effect with Tyler and probably doesn't want to 'enslave' others like him to Klaus, someone who has been nothing but trouble for her and took her Aunt. The Stefan thing...Stefan is playing golf on the moon right now. Reeling him back down to Earth [his reasonable state of mind] is going to be quite the task cause of his current fixation. Plus, you have to imagine the Dead Witches would keep the coffins hidden if they found out they were going back to Klaus (unless Klaus still has his own Witches and can bring them in to reveal the coffins but we know Maddox & Gretta were no match for Bonnie with the Dead Witch power so...). Bekah's situation would need quite the lie to keep the blame on Mikael. Elena misinterpreting the cave paintings, Klaus having a good enough excuse to why it isn't him, something. Otherwise, she'll just cause another war in the family (or Them vs Klaus for the truth) and I think she *MAY* come down a bit about the Elena thing (Dagger'd) with some work. A few sleepovers with Bonnie & Caroline, that dance with Matt, etc.. I'm crazy aren't I with thinking they could work something out?

They might be forced to, if the council wants it. I do think Klaus could keep his end of the deal. Stefan is sort of a loose cannon right now so guaranteeing his cooperation is not a sure thing, but you gotta wonder if they are all at that dance if things will be calmed down by that point, the Feb 9th episode.

I'm wondering if they'll have to call a truce if something bigger steps into the picture. We're still in the dark about some supposed 'Darkness' so if that trumps Klaus as a threat to where he has to divert his attention and resources to that threat away from getting back his family and then Elena becomes a target because of her being a source to create Hybrids, I could easily see an uneasy alliance between Klaus & the gang to deal with it. Elena staying alive is of interest to both parties so instead of trying to fight on 2 fronts, dealing with 1 would be best for them.
But think of it: if you had Damon, Klaus & Katherine working on a plan together, how could it fail?

Well, it seemed like they had (or would have had) some sort of truce until Stefan took the coffins.
Elena as a blood bag poses another problem in that to make a hybrid, they have to die. Mind you that didn't seem to be a problem with the sacrifice.
And I have to wonder, is Klaus going to undagger his family? Or just keep them as furniture? Rebekah is mad at him. Elijah is mad at him. The others, I assume, won't be happy with being daggered for however long they've been daggered.

Coexisting with Klaus is impossible. Love him, but he's an egotistical maniac, from what we've been shown, incapable of empathy to others unless it's for his own selfish need. This is a guy who had complete conviction when it came to draining a 17 year old girl because he wanted more power. He'll always be seduced by the idea of more power and more control, so I don't ever see the gang coexisting with him, unless the writers decide to re-write everything we know about Klaus. They'd never be anything more than his puppets.

The others, I assume, won't be happy with being daggered for however long they've been daggered. Well, to even be a Werewolf, they had to have killed someone. So...meh. Like you mentioned, Elena & Stefan had no problem, hell, they completely ignored the fact, that 2 people had to die in the sacrifice to even go through with their half-baked plan to keep Elena alive. It's mind-boggling cause Katherine turned Tyler & Caroline for the sole reason of being used in the sacrifice yet neither Stefan or Elena went to go check up on Caroline at the least, since Klaus had Katherine who had devised the plan to have all the ingredients present for him. Didn't Klaus mention something that with Mikael now gone, his family would let bygones be bygones or something of that sort? We still need more info on the Originals as to why Klaus was putting them down. Bekah was running with him and he put her down cause she wanted to go off on her own and Elijah got away to the point where Klaus was hiding from him/wanted him out of the picture. He had to have hunted down the remaining 2. Did he keep them with him because he was afraid of Mikael turning them against him with Mikael saying Klaus killed their Mother and Klaus saying Mikael did it? And Elijah wanted his family back. With them awake, he's most likely to let it go. Then again, he's been awake the longest aside from Klaus. Bekah has been up for some time (to the 20s) but the other 2 are unknown. They could be going on 200-300 years in those coffins. For all we know, Elijah split away from him when he found out Klaus was going to hunt down the other 2 to keep them from Mikael. Too many unknown factors. We still don't know who finished the cave drawings to point the finger at Klaus but since the cave has a barrier, maybe the Original Witch did it from beyond and sealed it? Stupid for Klaus to leave that kind of evidence and I don't think Mikael would care to put that there either.

Um they could have co-existed with Klaus while actually creating a well thought out plan to destroy him behind his back. Earn the trust of his siblings. Do a bit of Witch soul searching and dig into books. Learn how to defeat him don't just rely on something reckless and dangerous. Even if they had to co-exist for a year and Elena had to "donate" blood once a month (people do it every day) until their plan was full proof than co-existing with Klaus would have been the reasonable thing to do!
But no.. someone always has to screw up everything by acting on their rash feelings and just rushing actions! It was stupid of Stefan sorry! They could have done this better! Actually laid out a good well thought out plan. Sometimes it takes a while to screw the enemy. As the sayings go keep your friends close but your enemies closer. Be chummy with the guy act like everything is cool and then stab his ass in the back with a full proof plan!

He'll always be seduced by the idea of more power and more control, so I don't ever see the gang coexisting with him, unless the writers decide to re-write everything we know about Klaus. They'd never be anything more than his puppets. He wanted to be whole. He wanted a means to protect his family, so he says. The means to build an army to act as a deterrent against any who would pose a threat to them (have to say, it's not working as Stefan and Damon just keep getting in this guy's face asking "Can we have some more?"). I think this is some extension of what their father had in mind with turning them to keep them from dying and Klaus is just going about the same idea in his own insane way. Klaus said people have been chasing him for most of his life and we know Mikael had some help in the 20s but who put Mikael down and was he possibly bait for Klaus? If Mikael was just there in the 'open', it was the perfect opportunity for Klaus to put him away (drop him in the sea). Instead, Klaus knew where he was and avoided doing anything when he tows the rest of his family around (either to keep others from using them against him or for their own protection). Klaus does have a control fixation but he was able to keep that in check in regards to Stefan for 2 months. So it can be eased up on if he sees the need to and mainly, that control seems to be over the family which once again, may be a result of Mikael. Mikael was rough on Klaus and I think it was to somewhat prepare him for a time when he wasn't around and Klaus was the only one there to protect the family. Klaus failed once with Henrik/Henry or whatever his name was when they sneaked out to see the Wolves. Another unrelated thing but I've seen someone mention that Klaus activated his Wolf half when he first fed as a Vampire. He didn't react the same way he did when we saw him break his Curse did he? And weren't we initially told that Mikael slaughtered the Wolves because of the affair with his wife? We saw differently in the Origin story or that it wasn't entirely the reasoning: Henrik's death also played a part in that. I'm rambling now -_-

My opinion of Klaus differs from many others as I am well aware. As far as draining a 17 year old girl to her death....honestly I believe Elena and Katherine bear the face of his first love Charlotte Petrova and I think he is a bitter and broken man because of it. That's another story. That being said I just want to point out that this... "The Stefan thing...Stefan is playing golf on the moon right now." Is one of the funniest things I've read lately. Klaus has the Mayor and the Sheriff in his pocket and may have the Sheriff's daughter there, too. It does seem he usually tries to negotiate before resorting to violence. It is going to be very interesting to see how this plays out. We know we are going to see two of his other siblings eventually. Can't wait for that! I miss Bekah and want her undaggered...sooner rather than later. Same for Elijah. It will be much more tense when they are finally awakened.

Now stop thinking like that That would have even worked. If Klaus would have woken up the others and Elena didn't tell him about Bekah knowing, they could have kept it to themselves and brought Elijah into it along with Bekah. Depending on the other 2 remaining, they could be pissed off about being in those coffins for so long (we don't know how long they've been there) and wanted in. You'd have to think Elijah would have some of his own sources to go to for help (who did he visit when Damon stuffed his plan?) and with 2-4 Originals on your side, you could turn some Hybrids to your cause like Mikael did. It'd also be a benefit to the group to have Klaus at ease the entire time and to let his guard be down or not even worrying about his family/the gang looking to work him over. He's raised Witches so you could have even had Bonnie approach him and ask if she could see some of his library (for her own personal interest). But, it's We have to keep in mind that logic goes out the window most of the time.

We would be rooting for the good guy instead of wishing someone would lock him up and throw away the key (Stefan)!! It would have been so cool to keep Mikael alive and see the family reunion and then all work together to bring him down. Damn they suck for not giving us better TV!

It would have been a nice 'down' time for the group so to speak. A nice little calm after all the crap they've put up with the past couple of months and it's kind of a missed opportunity now. Instead they hop right into more trouble with Stefan stealing coffins (not on the entire gang as this is Stefan/Katherine who prompted another phase of trouble). Damon & Elena should just throw a small dinner party (like they've done before with Elijah), invite Klaus and not make any move against him. Invite Carol, Liz, and Alaric too. They could ask him what he has planned for the future in MF, ask him how old he is and what he's seen over all this time, etc.. Just make it a relaxed environment/evening. I don't think every time they cross paths, it has to be a tense/hostile encounter.
