One thing I wanted to add, I think it was Sarah (sweetluv4DE) who said that one of the brothers should end up with Katherine. I am completely against Damon ending up with Katherine under any circumstances. I know Damon is self depreciating and has almost ZERO self- esteem, but going back to Katherine IMO, would be a new low for Damon and I would lose a lot of respect for him if that were to happen.
Katherine is THE SOLE reason for a lot of Damon's pain and anguish as a vampire. She turned an sweet and idealistic young man into a cynical self hating vampire, and I don't think there's anything she can do that will undo the amount of damage she's done to his self esteem. She took advantage of his blind loyalty and his devotion to her and used him with little regard for his feelings and has displayed on multiple occasions how little she values his life. The only way Katherine would ever be redeemed in my eyes, as a viable love interest for Damon is if she took a stake in the heart for him, by which she'd be dead anyways.
I'm not believing for a second that Katherine actually loved Damon, the show can change the story however they want, but what they've shown us in the flashbacks and present day has proven otherwise.

She'd lack the ability to manipulate and use him and it might be something to get her to change some of her ways to be with him. She says she loves both Brothers but with Elena in the picture, she's got ball's chance of getting with either of them until Elena finally decides and unless she herself changes her ways. Katherine has to change her own manipulative/cut and run/leave friends for the Wolves ways and being Vampires, I think they have the time to repair some of the damage. Elena is steadily repairing some of that with Damon so Damon getting some help and then going back to the source [Katherine] to see how things go, I'd be fine with seeing that. Katherine is confusing though. She says she loves Damon but we've seen her put him in the line of fire a few times (the Dagger incident) but maybe even more, save him (getting him Klaus' blood, blowing a surefire chance to kill Klaus and to stop running to save Damon from the Hybrids, etc.). Elena is the big factor here on what happens though.

I agree that DK would really suck badly because I think Katherine is pure poison for Damon and in a relationship with her all he'd ever have is misery. I could see him slowly reverting back to the bitterness he had when he first appeared in MF if he were stuck with Katherine. She never made him feel good about himself or secure. She just led him on and lied to him. Elena is so much better for him.
I am disappointed whenever I see someone saying DE is merely an obstacle to SE. It's like discounting everything that has happened between them. I realize a Stelena would want it to be nothing more than an obstacle, but it isn't. I don't know what will happen, and neither does anyone else, but it surely can't be reduced to 'just' being an obstacle to SE.

Elena is the big factor here on what happens though. Well for me Damon doesn't need a second go-round with Katherine. He's been there with her already, and she didn't appreciate his love and devotion. She used him in the worst way imaginable and disregarded his feelings and his life on too many occasions. IMO Katherine doesn't deserve Damon at all, no matter how much he's grown. She'll always put herself first, and a relationship like that is not one I'd want to see Damon in. In homecoming she tries to save Damon as a means to salvage Stefan's humanity because once again it's really Stefan who matters to her. She knows that if Stefan loses his brother, he'd be lost to her forever, and he'd never be that Stefan she fell in love with. She said it herself, that it was up to Stefan to save Damon, and that if he didn't feel something, she'd go right a long with the plan and Damon would die. So this was not born out of some genuine concern for Damon's life, rather Stefan's humanity. So it stands Katherine doesn't give a crap about Damon, only when it relates to Stefan. For me Katherine doesn't even deserve to lick the bottom of Damon's shoe, and only her dying for him would ever make her worthy in my eyes. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Katherine as a character (I actually like her), but I cannot forgive her or overlook what she's done to Damon and for that reason, I never want to see them in relationship.

I said if they end up going an SE route because of all the supernatural elements that the show has placed on the triangle and the importance of the doppelganger I would like to see Damon with Kat. That is only if they go an SE route. no she is not worthy of him now but if she changes and the show decides to go that route I hope to God they make it right. I cant see the writers making an DK ending anyway but if they do I also cant see them just putting them together without any type of change on kat's part. It was a BIG IF and of course has to be perfect in order for it to even work IF they go the SE route which I'm not convinced of right now. We have probably a good 3 to 4 more seasons to develop these people. We don't know who they will be or where they will go. So again just based off the supernatural perspective that I stated IF and only IF SE is endgame and they can redeem Kat would i want a DK ending.

Apart from her bringing him the cure/ which didn't take much effort or any risk of her life, she never shows any genuine concern or care for Damon, rather the opposite. Instead all we keep getting is that Katherine loves Stefan, she follows Stefan, she looks out for Stefan, she risks being caught by Klaus only for Stefan. She never goes to these lengths for Damon, and the show has done nothing to disprove that. From what I can see Damon is still very much expendable to Katherine, but Stefan is not. Considering I've yet to see any genuine feelings for Damon from Katherine's end, it's hard for me to imagine them being together again in any capacity.

If I stand by my supernatural perspective and say the brothers somehow are bonded to these doppelgangers and in the end they make DE endgame then SK must happen, which is the better option for me obviously, than to not say the later if SE are endgame would make my whole theory hypocritical. So I have to trust that if they do go that route they will have shown great change from Kat. I do though think she cares for Damon. I don't think she would ever chose Damon over Stefan and that is why for me it has to be a DE and SK endgame but who Damon was in 1864 is not who Damon is now and Kat I feel has been seeing that since she has been back and I think she is intrigued by that in a way. They could grow off of that. ONLY if SE is endgame. LOL I have to make that perfectly clear bc in no way would I ever ship DK over DE.

I like Katherine too. She's one of my favorite characters. But I don't like what she does to Damon inside so I don't like the idea of them together AT ALL. At this point I don't see how she could ever change enough to make me change my mind on that.
It's weird because I have actually thought about this quite a bit and even written her into two fan fictions but all I see is her taking this pure Damon, which is what he was when she met him, and twisting him all around. He could never have imagined back then what he was dealing with in Katherine.
She was mocking him when she called him, "My sweet innocent Damon," because he was that when she met him and he wasn't that when she left him and it was as a result of her being in his life. She literally destroyed that in him and she reveled in destroying that in him right down to telling him she never loved him, even if she really thought she did.
Something in her just makes her hate the sweetness and innocence in Damon that she saw and wanted to take it away, probably her own self loathing, but I can't forgive her for doing that to him.
A perfect example:
Katherine: What happened to you, Damon? You used to be so sweet and polite. Damon: "That Damon died long time ago." Katherine: "Good, he was a bore."

As far as Datherine goes, I understand what you're saying about her having destroyed Damon. Thing is, I never think it was completely intentional... and I don't think she really "destroyed" him... I think, besides Katherine, what hurt Damon most-- was Stefan's role in it all. It's the divide Kat created between him and his brother that really "destroyed" him.
Both times Katherine came to MF, she had no intention of falling in love, and the first time, although we aren't sure if she came there with the plan to fake her death, I imagine her intentions weren't exactly pure.
But then BOTH brothers took Katherine by surprise in different ways, and they made her fall in love for different reasons. Damon, by accepting who she was, and Stefan, by making her want to be more, by seeing her in a way that she forgot she wanted to be-- "When I look at you, I see an angel..."
I think Kat was changed by the Salvatores-- and I think that when she heard that from Stefan, she'd come to decide that Stefan was the one she wanted. (Hence her kicking Damon out of her room a few moments later, though she'd obviously asked him to come.)
I think that when Kat came back to MF the second time, the same thing happened, she has bad intentions but she fell in love again. Katherine saw from the outside in how these two brothers fought and keep fighting to keep human girl safe-- to do the right thing. I think that, after being around the Salvatores again-- she fell in love all over again, and that is why Katherine can say with such certainty now, that she did love both brothers.
I believe that when Katherine came to MF, she had every intention of ripping the brothers apart-- not to mention, the town. And that is why she said what she said to Damon-- like Stefan had told Damon earlier in that episode, she was trying to break them.
I have a short rant on tumblr about Datherine vs Steferine: soulseternalflame.tumblr.com/post/15938416996
There it is, if anyone cares to read it.

Was going to reply to this earlier but for the life of me couldn't remember what I was going to say and now I do. I think we should factor in Damon & Stefan's father into the equation. The way their father disapproved of Damon but favored Stefan over him was just building up the emotions/hate that came to the forefront when Damon turned and saw that Stefan was turned too by Katherine. What their father did to him with favoring Stefan helped drive a rift when they turned I think (with the emotional increase involved). The Katherine stuff was just more stress on some already underlying issues with Damon.

What I meant by 'destroy' is that he isn't that sweet innocent Damon anymore and it's mainly because of Katherine. He still has a sweet side but it's pretty guarded and not seen by many people. I believe Caroline/Rose/Elena are about the only ones who have seen that side of him, and the first two commented on it. Back in 1864 that was who he was all the time. Really the rift between the brothers is also Katherine's doing, so yeah even though it affected Damon's perspective on life she was still the cause of it, or most of the cause of it.
I'm not saying other people didn't have their effect in changing Damon. His bitterness toward his brother over it all was huge. Stefan admitted in one of the first shows that Damon had said he was with Katherine first and he didn't confirm or deny it but he did say he didn't care if he hurt Damon, that he wanted Katherine.
But Katherine turning both brothers after telling Damon it was just going to be him and then faking her death/disappearing/leaving them turned and alone, that was all her. She was out there for 145 years and never sought them out after 'wanting' to spend eternity with them, or so she claimed, enough to turn them both.
It was also a different kind of betrayal for Damon because it had all been a lie. Stefan had been compelled not to tell Damon. Damon had just flat out been lied to by Katherine. I think some of Damon's anger in the beginning of the show toward Stefan was misplaced and should have been toward Katherine but not all of it. Stefan played his part in it. In the deathbed episode though, Damon did come to realize he couldn't blame Stefan for the choices he'd made regarding Katherine.
But that doesn't let Katherine off the hook for what she did to Damon. I just have a hard time thinking of him with her after all that, and hope it doesn't happen. I don't think she deserves a second chance. Elena is the one Damon needs to be with now. Katherine is the past. I don't see how Damon could ever trust her again nor should he.

We know she was tailing Klaus or Stefan in the 20s, much like Damon was keeping an eye on Stefan himself. Didn't she also mention that she watched him at a concert some years back when he was with Lexi too? I think if she ever did see Damon in that time, if she is to be believed she didn't want to be found by him/or have anything to do with him (and just not trying to get a rise out of him when she said this), then it was solely because Damon was following Stefan around. Otherwise, she sounds like she was indeed keeping tabs on Stefan over those 145 years. Disregard this if you mean actually confronting them in that time

Well yeah, that's true. She did follow Stefan probably out of curiousity but he was unaware of it..and we don't know about Damon in that. She may well have checked up on Damon, too at some point. I'm a little confused how she now has said she loved Damon, too, after pretty much acting like she couldn't care less about him, was going to let him die with the dagger, told him she never loved him. Perhaps, now that she's been around the brothers again she is facing her feelings again about it all after convincing herself she didn't care. *shrug* Either way, she has acted horribly toward Damon for the most part. Now they seem to want to redeem her for something and that worries me a bit. She's helped 'save' Damon twice now but both times it involved Stefan so her motivations could have been Stefan and not Damon at all. I'd be ok with SK and I think it could even work, but not DK. I think Damon's over her enough that he'd be ok with SK, too, though he'd think Stefan was nuts. If Katherine turns out to be the 'mystery female vampire' though and anything happens between DK and they start heading in that direction at all...ugh. I won't be happy. Not that I don't think it's darn hot, because I do, but for the reasons I listed, they really shouldn't be together. I could see Katherine sucking Damon back in again and then disappearing off the face of the earth. He's still a pretty vulnerable person underneath it all. Katherine would have then blown up DE pretty well. Hey if Damon needs sex I think his options are pretty open. He doesn't need to be going back to that well with Katherine.

She loves Damon. But Kat is a cold hearted selfish person. There really is only room for one person for her to truly love in that heart and I think it's Stefan. I think she loved Damon then. Yes she had a funny way of showing it but at the end of the day she could only choose one. Maybe after Stefan proclaimed his love for her she used her cruelty toward Damon as a defense mechanism so she wouldn't feel guilty about loving both but loving Stefan more. I think she would have settled if she got with Damon. He would have never made her change. Or challenged her to be better. he would have followed her like a love sick puppy willing to be whatever she wanted him to be. Stefan on the other hand was a challenge. He wasn't so accepting of her being a vampire but he fell in love with her before he knew. I guess I wont know for sure until they really explain it and develop kat more.
