Karma is just a form of reputation. If someone posts something you like, find useful, etc you would up their reputation (in proboards form, that would be "Exalt"). If they do something against board rules, or something you find offensive, you would drop their reputation a point (in this case "Smite")

If the Smite / Exalt is not appearing under a persons name for you, it means you gave out your allotted amount of reputation for the time period (varies by boards)

Karma is like the like or unlike feature at Facebook.If somebody agrees with what you say they will exalt you meaning give ya like a +1 and if somebody disagrees with you they will smite you meaning -1 its nothing against you personally so don't take it that way....

I first took offense to it at the lj smith forum, but when they explained it I just pay no mind to the Karma thing now.
