Who knows what crazy concoction Esther is up to now. A new piece of crazy may be added, or even subtracted from the puzzle.

Also if the originals were linked to all vampires why wouldn't Klaus threaten this aspect before. Like say back in the ep where they were plotting with Michael. There was a scene where Klaus came up to Elena, he didn't know it was Kat, and said something like I've had people trying to kill me for years so give it your best shot. He could have also added by the way if I die you along with the Salvatores will too. Or at least some sort of hint at their linkage.

Unless Klaus himself didn't know. But I guess it's because the writers weren't thinking about this at the time. Gah I hate the inconsistency

^^^ If they had this thought out that far back, it would have been nice (giving reason for people to hunt down Klaus & his family, which is why he boxed them in a means to protect them as well as the species) but I doubt they thought that far ahead. We know Mikael fed on Vampires so it's a matter of when he started doing this to find out how big his death was but I don't think it'd be as significant as say, Klaus or even maybe Elijah/Bekah/Kol (all of them lived to the 1900s at least). Finn was in a box for 900 years so his only direct line that we know of is through Sage and her creations.

But I think this will be news to all of them as well, which is probably why Stefan didn't mention it to them because they'd be playing their next hand by leading on that they'll find out where their [the Gang's] chain goes to so they can find out who to spare out of the Originals.
