Ok so I wanted to start a thread for the book readers and movie watchers! I just finished the book last night and WOW! I'm speechless. Amazing writing. Such detail. Sad story and kinda a messed up idea.....well not kinda very messed up but in a way very believable! Anyway I loved it! Katniss was an amazing heroine only I wanted to hit her a few times. But I am as of right now team PEETA! Discuss! I still have to see the movie though!

I enjoyed the book (only read THG, haven't read the other 2) but was disgusted with the idea after reading it. A government that takes kids (as young as 12) and puts them in a battle royale/survival/last man standing tournament of sorts and then uses it as a national event? It's just one big TV/Media event (sponsors and people betting on who wins) for them too and a taunt to the people after rebelling and using their children as 'tribute'. Then you have most districts who struggle every day to put food on the table for their families and are regulated to certain roles for the Capitol (coal, agriculture, etc.) while the first few Districts are busy training 'Career' Tributes for the Games which is an unfair edge because the other Districts are too busy living from day to day unlike the first few. Holy Hell what an ugly future.
I didn't much care for the 'media' angle. And I know it was for survival but I didn't like the way Peeta was used. Katniss started to come around/develop some feelings for him but to use his own feelings for her for the whole 'media/sponsor' angle to get supplies kind of bothered me.

Well she was thinking survival mode and it wasnt just to save her but to save the both of them. to get both of them out alive. I liked the fact that she doesnt even know herself if it was entirely playing the game or actually had feelings

I know it was for their survival and given anybody in such a situation, they'll go to whatever lengths to survive but from my perspective, I didn't like that Peeta was being used in such a manner when his feelings were true. It was only until she was playing up that part for the sponsors to help them that she started questioning if she herself actually had feelings for him just like you mentioned.

I'm almost done reading Catching Fire! READ IT!!! Soooo good!
I love Peeta so i was constantly wanting to Hit Katniss. Esp in Catching Fire! It's a fast pace book and moves around allot but I love books like that!!
Funny thing is it disturbed me until i read and was like WOW this I could totally see happening as our world gets more evil and more evil! It wasn't un-realistic to me at all!
Call me what you want but I think it rings some truth!

We've had some pretty bad governments throughout history and I would think those would be some good examples of not having to travel down that path again, not to the extent it is in the Hunger Games at least. But I also have to remember that the people did try to stand against this government and they're now one District short because the government wiped out one of them. So sadly, if it did happen and the people didn't stand for it, all the government would have to do is drop a warhead someplace as an example for the people to get in line.
But hell, we're still fighting wars and retreading history so it's not like we as a species have learned anything from the past. All it takes is the 'right' chain of events to lead to a Hunger Games like future.

Just decided to erase this Slash... I would rather not ruffle feathers talking political stuff even in the thread about a book that deals with Political issues!!! But I will still stand by my earlier thought that I could see it happening. Anyhoooooo I finished Catching Fire. Onto Mockingjay! Catching Fire was soooooooooooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still team peeta!

Yeah, political talk and the like always seems to turn ugly How's CF? Better than THG? You say it moves around a lot so I'm not sure how to register that. Is Katniss moving around a lot because of her new popularity or what? I guess it's something I'd have to read to get an actual feel for. I need to blow through a few other books before I decide to make another book run anytime soon otherwise I'll just be stacking more books on top of a backlog (which I've been doing). I feel like I'd blow another $60 or so on books the next time I go cause I want to catch up or get started on series.

This is the link to Mockingjay! I bought Mokingjay bc I read Catching Fire online and my head hurts! I don't do good with long spurts on the computer. But you can look up Mokingjay through the same website. Get your laptop or ipad whatever you have and curl up in bed. =) I read through it in 2 days.
Now Catching Fire isn't as good as Hunger Games but it's good!!!! I liked it. It's fast paced because a bunch of different events happen in the book and some days are detailed and some days are skipped entirely mentioned only in a few sentences. Let's just say during the movie they have allot to accomplish! I would be surprised if they break this one into two films!

I think I am the only person in the history of the world who dislikes Peeta. He is so completely and utterly, useless!
Also, I thought Catching Fire was way better than The Hunger Games. CF was my favorite in the series. Mockingjay is the worst. It literally moves at a snail's pace.
I always have unpopular opinions!

Thought I'd bump with the first image/look at Catching Fire: Haven't read the 2nd book (or seen the movie yet although I've eyed it a few times).
