tbh I don't hate Damon as much as love Stefan sooo I think I will join the convo there.

This post has been a long time coming. I'd like to point out that I do not hate Damon Salvatore. He gives the show much needed sarcastic humor and charm, but the way the writers have abused his storyline doesn't make me love him either. In fact, I don't see his appeal besides his looks and if a good majority of the fandom love him for his looks, there's a problem there.
He was brought in to be the villain and, for a good while, he was, especially to Caroline, Elena, and his brother, Stefan. He took control of Caroline, used her, and threatened to kill her once her purpose ended. Such a charmer. He's constantly antagonizing Elena (and doesn't really stop this even into the third season), and even swipes Jeremy's mind of all memories and puts in new ones. TWICE! But I can ignore ALL of that. What I can't ignore is how he treats his brother.
First, let's tackle Katherine. Damon tries to get between Katherine and Stefan, succeeds, vows to become a vampire, gets upset when Katherine doesn't just want him, but Stefan too. Then, they both try to save Katherine, assume they fail and she dies, both of them die, and then come back to life. Damon, sulking because Katherine's dead, no longer wants to be a vampire and hates Stefan for making him feed and complete the transition, despite the fact that he had no qualms with it originally and Stefan did. Damon then vows to make Stefan's life a living hell for what he did to him and to Katherine when Damon was in the wrong because up until recently, Damon cannot come to terms with his wrongdoings. Did I miss anything? Oh yes, fast forward a hundred or so years to the future and Damon still hates Stefan because of Katherine and only once Katherine tells Damon is was never him, but Stefan, does he relinquish his hate.
Now let's move on to Elena. Katherine's doppleganger (aka utter look alike), Elena has captured Stefan's heart and they fall into a whirlwind romance. Big brother Damon comes to town and purposely puts himself between Elena and Stefan, much the same way he did with Katherine and Stefan, to make good on his vow to ruin Stefan's life. He doesn't back down, doesn't care that Elena is his brother's girlfriend because Damon cares little for loyalties. Low and behold, he falls in love with Elena, not accidentally either because he purposely got in the middle of them, and Elena fell in love with him, though she has much difficulty admitting it. Once again, Damon steals his brother's girl without guilt.
And let's not forget the important fact that Damon kills Lexi, his best friend's brother in order to save his own ass.
Now, someone, please explain to me why Damon Salvatore is so damn appealing? Klaus, the big bad vampire wolf, acts more like a brother to Stefan and everybody seems to hate him. Do I need to draw parallels between Klaus and Damon? We all know I will. Like I said in the beginning, I don't hate Damon and that may be hard to believe based on this rant-like post. I just don't understand why everyone else loves him because, clearly, Damon isn't a saint.

After this episode tonight I didn't think I could hate Damon more when it came to Lexi, well I was wrong. I hate how they tried to destroy her character by having her sleep with Damon. Disgusting! I saw it, but I'm still not believing it. I wonder if she ever told Stefan about it. It was weird seeing Lexi on the show without having scenes with Stefan. Definitely would've preferred that than seeing her get used & manipulated by Damon which is what he does best.

I know, every time Stafan saves his life, he goes after Elena, every time... So, just let the guy die already, Stefan, it's not like we are going to miss him or anything  And, the 1st gif, that right there was the moment for me where I realized that enough is enough and I couldn't tolerate Damon's BS anymore. He deserves nothing, not Stefan, not Elena, not even Katherine... Acting like he cares for his brother's feelings and a few hours later saying he's not sorry and sleeping with Elena... Sick, he's just disgusting!  |
