I just made up a general ending after the finale of the very last season...
No pun intended, hahaha!!! Imagine the whole thing in narrator style, like they do in many movies. OK Elena will bite the dust.
After the tragic heroine had passed away...in Hamlet style bc she just couldn't decide whom she truly loved...

The Salvatore brothers rode together into the sunset
Klaus had to take lifecoaching hours bc he had lost his true brother and BFF once again, but he and Stef remained penpals.
Once a year they met in Chicago for their yearly annual Rippahhhhhhh convention and celebrated like wild. They really had a feast when they met.
In the meantime Klaus and Kol booked a voyage "around the world in 80 days".With the remaining blood of Elena, Klaus was able to create international hybrids, this made him really happy and he registered for facebook. There he had his comingout and declared that Stefan was his one and only true love.
He had many friends on facebook bc nobody dared to block him
Bex and Matt married and after a while Matt asked her to be turned. They run a PR agency with Tyler and Caro, who also married. Their specialty is the CW and sports.
Jeremy entered a convent and found true peace after God had called him into his service.
But now and then he still wakes up at night and finds a dagger in his hand and a few whittles
Elijah and Kat took the cure and moved to Monaco. They have 5 kids and 12 grandchilderen and Elijah biggest wish found fulfillment "He was always a well respected man" Everyone was in awe of him.
Bonnie became the most powerful witch of her time. She now works for the pentagon and also teaches young woman "The stranger danger concept" seminar
Stefan continued his bunny diet
and Damon just couldn't get enough of sorority girls and parties
Prof McCreepy Shane and Silas were entombed in the cave by Alarics ghost who had come to rescue his BFF Damon in distress. They play scrabble, solitaire and mindgames the whole day
Liz Forbes and Rudy Hopkins fell in love
and Rudy moved in with Liz 
All is well in Mystic Falls
