Not sure how many would be interested in this with the sci-fi angle but this is SyFy's upcoming show, premiering on April 15th. They released the first 14 minutes earlier in the week and I'm already liking the relationship of 2 of the main characters, Nolan & Irisa, from that little view. Entire synopsis: In the year 2046, it’s a new Earth – with new rules. Over thirty years after various alien races arrived on Earth, the landscape is completely altered, terraformed nearly beyond recognition. To the town of Defiance, on what used to be St. Louis, comes the mysterious Nolan (Grant Bowler) and his charge, Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas). As they settle into town – overseen by the mayor, Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz) and filled with residents like the powerful Rafe McCawley (Graham Greene), enterprising lounge owner Kenya (Mia Kirshner) and the ambitious, alien Tarrs (Tony Curran and Jaime Murray) - events begin to unfold that threaten the fragile peace this border town has fought for.

So the premiere was last night and I loved it, especially the characters (I've also got the game so that helps add to the world although it takes place in San Francisco/Bay Area, not St. Louis but the show mentions people and things in the game that really stick out: E-Rep, Varus, Ara Shondu, Raiders, 99ers, etc.).
Wondering what the story is behind Nolan & Irisa, specifically what she said about her parents (or lack thereof) and that he considers her his daughter. Nolan killed her parents, something she couldn't do? They must have been horrible to her or something. I do enjoy Irisa being one extreme/Ms. Negative a lot of the time, which the same goes for the Doctor. Tommy the Deputy was just floored by what she considered 'conversation' material. I know why Nolan doesn't go into any details about the Battle of Defiance but I'm sure they'll explain that from his POV in the show. The 2 other Defiant Ones in the game (Jon Cooper who is the Lawkeeper for the Bay Area and Torc who is a Votan mechanic now) already explained what happened that they don't want to/like talking about and I'm guessing it's the same for Nolan the way he brushed it off.
Kenya (the bartender) was bothering me cause I couldn't place her and it finally hit me that she was Isobel, Elena's mother. Not only that, Amanda (the mayor) is apparently Darla from Buffy/Angel, Angel's maker/sire. So 2 former Vamps playing sisters. I loved the look on Nolan's face when he found that out though, as if he just made a really huge mistake.
The Tarrs are going to be an interesting piece cause they seem to be an antagonist on top of whatever else is going on with trying to wipe out the town. They're going to let their son marry the McCawley daughter and try to eliminate the father after that's done (and possibly the other son too) so that way she's forced to come to them to handle the family business of the mines (just from the dinner table scene, she really doesn't seem to care for business so I can see her doing just that). It would really put the Tarrs at the top of Defiance with their own assets and picking up the mines. The wife seems to have slight issues with the roughness her husband uses in doing things but she doesn't seem to be that far from being able to come up with her own plans to get things done (the plan to get the mines is hers).

I was loving this show until the finale ... I really didn't like the finale, and it has made me very skeptical for the next season. I'm still going to watch it, but I'm not as excited about it as I want to be.

I love Defiance so much I cant wait for season 2. (Also love the fact Amanda + Kenya are sisters and BOTH played selfish vampires who were mothers of main characters, Darla in buffyverse and Isobel on TVD)
The part I loved the most is this type of show at least to the best of my memory, has never been done before. What i mean by that is the MMO launched at the same as the show on purpose. What effects one effects the other. As Slash said "it takes place in San Francisco/Bay Area, not St. Louis" Which they did to explain why your character is not shown on the show BUT characters from the show appear during "episode" Missions which explain what happens when our heroes leave the city on a mission ect....
That is so interesting to me. They even let the game effect the show by doing wanted posters of some people's characters ect... Now that means if you watch the show only or only play the game your missing out. I love EU's (hence i bought a lot of star wars stuff over the years) which might not come as shock as I was asking in the other thread about TVD canon. So having that aspect really pleases me.
As a game it's ok. As a show it's ok. But together it creates something wonderful in my opinion.
