DAMON’S PAST RETURNS TO HAUNT HIM — Damon (Ian Somerhalder) realizes Elena (Nina Dobrev) is in danger and enlists Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) help to find her. The brothers pay a visit to Aaron (guest star Shaun Sipos), and Damon shocks Stefan by revealing his first-hand knowledge of Aaron’s family. In an attempt to stop Damon, Dr. Wes (guest star Rick Cosnett) unleashes his secret weapon, forcing Damon to deal with a part of his past he thought was gone forever, as well as the consequences of his decades-long plan for revenge. Meanwhile, Elena is horrified by Dr. Wes’ confessions about the dark history of Whitmore College and his own ultimate goal. Finally, a frantic Katherine (Nina Dobrev) turns to Matt (Zach Roerig) for help, until she realizes that Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda) may be the one who can solve her problem.

Ok. So I enjoyed this episode. I feel really bad for Elena when Damon broke up with her. But at least Damon was being honest with her as well as himself. I don't think he was trying to hurt her, but only trying to do the best thing he could for her because that's how much he really cares about her. I think even though she's sad, she needs to realize that Stefan has always been by her side except when he was a ripper which was only because of Klaus. She needs to stay with Stefan because he will always love her no matter what. Damon only thinks about himself and never about what's best for others. I believe she never deserved to be with him in the first place. Stefan has had a special place in her heart since episode 1 and even when he was a ripper, she had hope for him and knew that he loved her no matter what. That is the kind of person she deserves to be with. Not Damon. Damon honestly needs to find someone else.

I think that's a misinterpretation of Damon's character to say he is selfish. If you pay close attention to the show you will see that what the characters say does not match what the characters do and both Stefan and Damon and everyone for that matter has done good and bad things in their lives. Damon is no more bad or more selfish than Stefan is. Damon has always been there for Elena even when Stefan was willing to walk away from her. I think this is the fundamental difference between the two brothers who are more alike than either of them is willing to admit, Damon thinks he is bad, while Stefan thinks he is good, but neither's actions totally match their words.
But I realize this is a debatable subject. That's why we have a debate section. Feel free to make a post there to discuss why you think Stefan is better for Elena and people can rebutt it with why they don't. We try to keep the rest of the threads as conflict free as possible.
