official Tv canon

Hello

I could not find a thread for this but what is the official canon for the show? I know the original books are not obviously canon to the show. But What is the tv official canon.

I can think of :

TVD Show - Orginals Show - The Stefan diaries ( www.amazon.co.uk/Stefans-Diaries-Origins-The-Vampire/dp/1444901664/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398278488&sr=8-1 as that seems based on the show) + The comics ( www.dccomics.com/comics/the-vampire-diaries-2013/the-vampire-diaries-1 as again set in series world) *side note i wish there was a game, maybe made by teletale games like the walking dead game ohhhh think of all the shipping options you could make happen!, slightly joking but that way delena fans can make game delena and stelena ones can make it stelena, it's perfect but i digress lol*

Im not 100% sure those books + comics = Official canon OR Official but not canon. Anything that is canon I did not include?

Honestly, I don't think shows take every page from the book to actually consider what is canon. I have read stefan's diaries vol 1 and there are characters who don't appear on the show. For one, Stefan's betrothed was never mentioned in the show. However, Demise of salvatore's father was described the same way as in the book. But as far as the show goes, Julie plec pulls the strings. And don't think she is behind the books. Though, L J Smith got fired from writing TVD books. Wonder who's writing them now....

Well a ghostwriter is writing them now...the official versions. However LJ Smith has just started writing what she calls 'fan fiction' and continuing the story they stole from her. I read the first book and it was heavily Delena. I'm not sure where she's going with it but I'm glad she's back to writing it and screw Alloy!
