In light of Doppel's suggestion that we should perhaps have a "season 5 in review" thread, I decided to start this in debates, since I'm guessing people may have many mixed feelings and opinions about the season. I'll start things off with a Best and Worst list, in my own opinion of course.
So, some of the worst of S5:
The time jump in the beginning. I hate that they skipped over all of the cute relationship stuff for Delena and went straight to the trouble. Such a gyp!
Elena's guilt over not finding Stefan and having fun instead ... give me a break.
Amara ... I love Nina, but 3 doppelgangers was a bit much.
Changing the doppelganger storyline to suddenly have nothing to do with Klaus. Really didn't like that.
The entire Augustine Vampire storyline! The only thing about that story that I found even remotely worth while was Enzo.
Damon's downward spiral. It was completely out of character, I don't care how hurt he was. He learned his lesson the first time he killed Jeremy. There's no way he would have ever done that again!
The whole "toxic" storyline. Contrived, annoying, and lazy writing to keep our IT couple apart for NO REASON.
Markos, the Travelers, and pretty much everything to do with them. Markos was the most boring villain ever. Ever.
Ok, mostly done with the bad, for now. I'm sure I will think of more lol.
Here's what I liked:
Damon and Stefan's relationship grew.
Stefan had some decent moments of becoming a more balanced person.
Liked the 100 episode with all the goodbyes to Katherine.
All the Delena stuff in the last 2 episodes!
Alaric and Enzo are alive.
And that's about it ...
Again, might think of more later. Anyways, share your thoughts and comments!

Bad:
Kat taking over Elena's body after we already said bye to her.
Her daughter dying was unnecessary.
Markos sucked
Liv and Luke sucked
Amara/Silas/Tatia all sucked. Could have been better.
The Doppelganger curse ending up just being a spell by Markos? ya that sucked!
Damon going dark and the whole Jeremy thing sucked!
The emphasis on stupid annoying no one cares about Aaron. SUCKED!
Elena one minute wants to fight then agrees they are "Toxic" sucks. "Toxic" references SUCKS!
Elena dreaming about Stefan two different times this season. STUPID! Sucks.
Bonnie becoming the anchor SUCKED
The Augustine storyline was TERRRIBLE Double Triple SUCKED!
Hated the travelers
Good:
DE love scenes, kiss scenes and phone scenes
Stefan and his many pro DE comments this season.
Stefan and Caroline's relationship getting closer.
Enzo because he's hot and sounds like Heath Ledger
Kat & Daughter reuniting
Damon's death
Alaric coming back
Loved watching Kat grow old
I'm trying to hard to find more things I liked but every time I think I add more to the BAD list. Or the SUCK list in my case. =)

Or the SUCK list in my case. =) Yep, ok I'll add a few things to my lists. Bad: Nadia's storyline made no sense. I hate that it didn't really go anywhere, except her death. And I really don't like the mythology confusion about her. Aaron was stupid and boring and a waste of everyone's time. All the stupid Stelena dream love scenes, really annoying. Bonnie not being a witch anymore ... Really made her boring. All the holes and inconsistencies in the writing and mythology. Good: Katherine and Nadia scenes. Damon and Elena's phone conversations after Katherine was gone and they were in quarantine. Caroline starting to fall for Stefan. |

I just thought of another Delena moment that I liked. Although it was a bit of a double edged sword. When Elena figured out that Katherine was taking over, and her one single goal was to get to Damon. The scene with her running to his arms was beautiful. Also tragic of course, because she was just too late, and then Katherine broke Damon. Which was one of the worst scenes ever ... But for those seconds when she was running to him, I really loved that moment.

Well I think the season ended well as far as Elena's feelings for Damon being finally sure, so sure she was willing to die with him and not willing to live without him when she came back from the other side and he was not with her. I think it's crystal clear now that Elena is deeply madly in love with Damon. I guess it took her a while to finally commit her entire self but we've seen what that means for her. She won't give up on him or else it would be very ooc.

I thought the quality of this season was all over the place and they made a few decisions I hated. But to some it up with a list of lets say :
Pros
+1 Enzo ; It's been a while since we had a character I cared that much for join the cast. He was a breath of fresh air I felt.
+2 Tessa ; I loved her little arc at the start
+3 Damon ; he really helped carry this season
+4 Alaric returned
+5 Enzo/Caroline ; my new favourite ship lol
Cons
-1 katherine ; It still pisses me off how they just erased such a great character from existence.
-2 Damon & Stefan ; Ok last episode sacrifice a side, i hated how little scenes they had together. I miss the brothers been close
-3 Elena lived ; She was even worse this season and the one ray of hope when she died was quickly undone
-4 Bonnie suffered more ; Why every ****ing year does this happen
-5 it didn't feel like 1 season but felt like 2 mini series imo
It was a lot easier coming up with cons than pros for the season. I'd give this season a 6 / 10 it IMO is the worst season we've had BUT there was was great episodes and even if it is the worst season it was still enjoyable at times.
I look forward to dvd though so I can marathon it in away that might make it better

I definitely wanted to punch her from time to time this season lol. I miss the old Elena. I hope the new Elena of Season 6 will be a better, stronger, wiser Elena. I like the Elena I saw in the finale. That was a good start. She had convictions, and loyalty, and she knew who she was. I want to see more of that!

Oh I can definitely see why people don't like her. Some of her acting scenes leave much to be desired. I just found it funny because she is in like 75% of the show. I know the feeling though - when a character like Damon comes on screen, it's like a breath of fresh air from some of the things we have to sit through.

It seems like guys don't like her so well, at least the ones I've run into in the fandom...lol But there's plenty else to watch for. Yeah season 1+2 she was cool. Season 3+ to me she became Lana Lang in Smallville. So i might hate the character BUT I like the rest enough to keep watching and love the show. |
