Annnnnnnnd we’re back! …. Well technically we ack like 2 weeks ago but DragonBall Xenoverse came out and other factors delayed me. What matters though is is season break is over! This episode is called “Do You Remember the First Time?”
The Story –
This episode is mainly the aftermath of Damon coming home. Damon shows up at Elenas and is like “Loving You is the only thing that kept me going for the last the few months” and Elena is like “f*** you I’m Elena” and goes to date someone else and be all about herself (Hell after years of been the most selfish character on tv she has it down to an art form lol) Eventually she at least apologizes then walks off. More of a rant on this soon
Now during this Stefan , Enzo and Matt were trying to get info out of Tripp, I love their dynamic as all three have very different views and morality so that is actually cool to see play out. Then Caroline gets involved and Enzo is like “Stefan loves you, later” and walks off. My response is this face
But with a lot of profanity. I’ll get to this later too
Bonnie has the focus of a side story too and from the start she saved herself! It was not just Bonnie abuse! Is it possible the writers view my posts on here? Either way not hating the Bon love. She is using magic and defending herself so well. Yes! She took a class in baddass. Good strong Bonnie is back!
The characters/ships + nit picks/annoyances
Liz – LOL it seemed really awkward how just showed up in this episode only to be threatened in the same scene. They forget her a lot then when they remember this happened. Also seriously we couldn’t see the crash and the threat before the phone call? Like really That would be interesting than some of this episode.
Delena – Okay here it goes. People may agree or disagree I know but my feelings were brought up before but this episode further cemented this. First lets look at the simple idea of a love triangle. “A love triangle (also called a romantic love triangle or a romance triangle) is usually a romantic relationship involving three people.” So what the hell. I loved the idea of Delena early on. Then they got together …. Sire bond , Memory wipe. I understand the idea that Delena worked as it was the unattainable love or the underdog of couples.
However lets compare it to a similar love. Spuffy (Spike/Buffy) once they finally got together for good like Delena was meant to. The relationship evolved naturally so they were a couple. They had great moments like her asking him to just lie with him. What does Delena get? Forced obstacles that’s the reason I and I assume others have left that sinking ship (boom ship pun) because it’s just the same stuff. Damon loves Elena but can’t be with her because _____ and that blank you can fill in with a) in love with his brother b) humanity turned off c) note sure if she loves him cause sire bond, d) memory wipe.
We need a season of those together IMO even if I’m not invested I know people still are. It seems like either a) the writers are so lazy they just keep rehashing the same stuff with them b) The writers think they can replicate why people were drawn to the ship but it’s trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice. Both are wrong relationships need to evolve or they become complacent. It’s like they kiss at the end but I cant cheer as next week or two they’ll do something else to split them or keep them apart and thats the reason for this rant. How can they expect us to cheer something we know from experience will just anger us soon enough
Cenzo – Okay all signs say Enzo has the feelings for caroline. But yet he was just like “okay she likes him now cool, later bro” I don’t 100% expect this ship to happen but he took it way too well. Klaus had the right reactions with tyler (though too evil one might say) but this was nothing no reaction just nothing. That is bad writing as he should have shown some sort of emotion over it.
Pros and cons
+ Bonnie was bad ass
+ Enzo killed tripp in a clever way
+ Stefan / matt / enzo friendship or team up was cool
+ Alaric was great as always
- Elena + Delena stuff feels like re-tread
- Bonnie gave up her magic now I’m worried it’ll be back to pick on Bon status quo next week
- Enzo’s lack of care about Caroline/Stefan
- Liz been just a plot device
- The writing seemed all over. Like Elena goes from “don’t care” to almost killing herself because she cares in like 5 seconds.
I’d say this episode overall was not terrible but it could have been much better
