As I write this I realise the sad truth. Seasons 1 to 4 I couldn’t miss TVD but season 5 and now 6 I have left longer than I use to. Right now I have episodes 8 and 9 recorded and 10 records tonight. I hate that feeling. I don’t know if it’s just the show has gone downhill or if I am the one who has changed.
In the past I cared about every character every dynamic every scene. Now I see characters as filler and scenes as the same. It makes me sad to realise I feel I loved the TVD and they didn’t care and just stepped on that love as “Who cares? We can use these cheap tricks to get raitings.” But anyway I digress …. This is episode 8 “Fade into You”

We open our little story with children hiding under the bed and someone is approaching then cut to Kai getting bonnie out of the trunk. No, I won’t be recapping every little scene. BUT I really wanted to point out that scene with the bed and the stalker/killer. Why? THAT to me is vintage TVD. From a directorial point that scene perfectly plays with the tropes and shots of horror.
This is important to me as TVD seasons 1 to 4 that I loved, were romance yes but they were also comedy but with a perfect horror backdrop. Like Star wars was fantasy in a scifi backdrop. Is it scifi? No but it used enough about science fiction to hook you. The vampire diaries use to do that with horror but then it shifted to horror only been “BOO!” jump out style and focused on the other aspects too.
To go from perfectly paced horror shots and lighting to kai opening up the boot (or trunk in usa
) car and be all happy cheery, well it warms my heart
because THAT was very well done. Yes I know it was at best a 4 minute scene but I wanted to point out the positive as my reviews on here do tend to be more negative than most, I did not want you all to assume I hated every part.
Now on to the story I’ll be splitting it up to make this more focused. So let’s start with Bonnie and Kai or as he’s known in America Z kai, see :

Anyhoo …Bonnie is kidnapped by Kai but keeps up a good tough attitude. It may have come up here in the past (sarcasm as I know it has) I feel bonnie gets the short stick a lot. So seeing tough Bonnie is a win for me!
He takes Bonnie to a house I think he said was his. Based on the area and kids bikes out front I assume he was the guy in the opening with kids under the bed. Awww he made her thanksgiving dinner…. Wait I though time was just groundhog daying there and thus they can’t tell …. I don’t know if the writers remembered that.
Now he goes gets magic knife and gets magic ….. Why didn’t he do this sooneeer? And decides he needs bonnies blood so stabs her ….. COME ON! It’s been so good with lack of Bonnie getting hurt or killed in last 2 weeks why go back to that? And why the **** did he never go and get his magic earlier? How did he know it was thanksgiving? These questions will not get answered as the writers hate logic

Is planning a Thanksgiving dinner or “Friends giving”…. Seriously the dumbest name ever. If you’re having it with friends and are grateful … some might even say thankful for their friendship. ITS STILL ****ING THANKSGIVING. Like really? What’s next Cuddlemas Christmas with those you cuddle? Heel-ween, Haloween for women in heels? Sorry I may be to old if this actual young hipster talk it just bugs me as much as people who use literally to mean not literally lol Tyler has side story with the not bonnie witch. This is what I mean. I feel this is filler and I cant care. I’m sure it’ll tie in eventually but its really dull I didn’t even realise this was the thanksgiving dinner elena has and the wonder twins have a third ….. still don’t care about them lol. Oh they are trained by Bonnie’s grandmother and related to Kai. I STILL DON’T CARE. Wow they really want us to like the new characters don’t they lol.

Elena told her new man shes a vampire and he didn’t react well so Elena is sadface. Theres a character on this show who’s not “It’s Elena so I must bow down” I like him! I hope he kills her soon lol.

Alaric, Damon and Stefan are having a Brogiving (I CAN DO IT TOO!) roadtrip! I love seeing the guys be guys. They are in search of …. Who cares ROAD TRIP! , It’s not there! We even get a great scene of damon talking with a teddy to mock Stefan. Love it! It was funny goofy fun. They meet Kai’s father who looked to me like this guy
I want a new TVD spin off. “100 deeds for Damon Salvatore” make it happen CW! But there is more to Papa Kai than meets the eye as he makes Damon disappear then get brain freeze. But he did it to talk to Damon about Kai.
My take of this discussion is Kai is Cell.
He needs to absorb the Androids (wonder twins) to become Perfect Kai. Cool I hope he succeeds as I really don’t care about them but Kai has moments of cool. But it turns out papa Kai wants to kill Damon who could only see him he had a magic teddybear but Stefan saves the day because of magic tree stump ….. you know out loud that sounds silly lol
Damon compels Alaric to use his GF to get the device they need….I thought all humans who are tight with the gang in TVD wore Vervain …. Oh well plot convenience again.
