For some reason I thought this thread was already made until I realized I had a rant and nowhere to put it.
Anyways I'm so over Caroline's character. I gave her the benefit of the doubt before but now it's obvious she's always going to be a plot device, the mouthpiece of the anti Delena fandom and never her own character.
I'm so tired of the fandom making Caroline out to be, 'OMG strong heroine lead! So much better than Elena!' Always letting Caroline slide with things they complained about with Elena. When Elena's humanity was off the fandom complained about how annoying or a witch with a B she was but with Caroline, everyone is cheering every little thing she does.
The most ironic thing in this Caroline vs Elena battle is the common argument that Elena makes everything about herself and is self absorbed. I think the fandom needs to take a look at Caroline. She's the self absorbed one. She's the one who makes everything about herself.
Singing Karoke at the grill (which no one liked cause they were trying to study) so Stefan comes to the rescue, has the whole grill compelled to listen to her. And then the whole, 'Caroline Trivia Game'. Oh man I can imagine how many people would have had Elena burning at the stake for that one. If she played that card with Matt/Stefan. Everyone would be calling Elena every name in the book and how she makes everything about her, but with Caroline it's awesome and cute.
And that was just from ONE episode of how self absorbed Caroline can be. And it doesn't matter that her humanity was off because she made the decision to turn off her humanity knowing that when it's off you literally care about nothing and can be quite destructive to the people around you. Something that Elena was trying to tell her but she was too busy saying how Elena was the self absorbed one lol.

I agree with you. I have only liked Caroline on rare occasions. Season 1 Caroline was 'shallow as a kiddie pool,' In fact if I'm being honest the way she jumps from man to man she seems pretty shallow even now and not very bright. She's definitely NOT female lead material if you ask me. There was a brief period right after she turned in which I thought maybe I could like her but that faded fast with her falling for Klaus which I thought was ridiculous and also being able to beat Damon in a fight? Please! Followed by all the anti-Damon, anti-Delena crap talking she did and it just pissed me off and made me like her less and less.
She seems to be a very selfish character and doesn't even acknowledge what other characters have done for her. She's too busy planning parties and what dress goes with which shoes to care about anyone else. Klaus even bribed her with a dress and necklace. I mean she's that transparent! I always felt her lack of smarts and stereotypical dumb blonde behavior was intentional and I was OK with it cause that was just her and I could just ignore her stupidity but if they think she is going to be the main female lead and on my screen excessively then I am not happy with that.

LOL, remember the thanksgiving dinner earlier this season? The jo, Luke and Liv reunion and the terrible reveal that Liv and Luke would have to merge when they were 22,and all Caroline cared about was having a pleasant meal. Yeah, again, Caroline is one of the characters that I want to like, and I have at times, but mostly I just want her to shut the hell up, and go away. The hypocrisy in this fandom knows no bounds, but, the DE fandom isn't perfect, but on the whole, I find DE/Damon stans rarely instigate hate (except on twitter, but everyone know the majority of those fans are very young, and volatile, and al the fandoms there are as bad as each other) , but it comes after DE/Damon has been criticized about things they have done, that others have done, and in some cases worse things.
Isn't it marvelous that without her humanity, Caroline still knows and cares so much about Elena's relationship with Damon? I wonder when Elena confided in Caroline her hopes for children and a normal life, because the last time I saw those two have any meaningful dialogue was at the hospital when Liz was dying, and Caroline actually had something nice to say about Damon for once, and prior to that, it was on a roadside when Elena was so broken and distraught about Damon's death, she told Caroline that she didn't want to or couldn't grieve for Damon, because she felt like she would die if she faced the reality that he was gone from her forever.
Ugh! It is this kind of writing that is ruining this show, because it isn't organic or earned in any way. A simple convo between Caroline and Elena earlier in the season discussing how they miss humanity, or the choices they will never have, would've gone a long way to making this little speech seem more organic, but no. As you say Doppelganger, as usual, they are still writing her as a plot device, as they always have, and it is for that reason that I have never really managed to care that much about her story.

Yeah Caroline's character is enjoyable and fun when the writers make use of her own storyline that doesn't revolve around the triangle (mainly Delena) drama. But when they use her as a mouthpiece to give 'props' to the anti Elena and Damon fandom her character comes off really petty and annoying. She acts like she's more of Elena's rival than her friend. Which is funny cause that's how the dynamics were in the books lol.
And I know there's going to be those in the fandom that think Caroline's character should forever hate Damon's character no matter what but it's just bad writing at this point. It'd be one thing if Damon and Caroline's character had been distant since then like with Bonnie/Damon's relationship (until the besties retcon) and the characters never went out of their way to have anything to do with the character. But after moments like taking a werewolf bit for her, the speech at the funeral etc. it gets really old seeing Damon trying to give her advice and her reaction is to go, 'Oh no the last thing I want to do is bond with you!'
It completely ruins the moment and makes you hate her character. It's worst when her hate for Damon is also really inconsistent. We get things like her contacting Damon on the phone/actually inviting him to the friendsgiving and not Stefan, telling Elena how she never gave Damon enough credit for being there for her all the time and then like whiplash bringing up the funeral example again where Damon was trying to comfort her and she snaps at him. It's just stupid and inconsistent. Like the writers pick and choose when she should conveniently hate Damon/Elena for the plot.
