After finding himself on the wrong end of Julian’s (guest star Todd Lasance) plan to avenge Lily’s (guest star Annie Wersching) death, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) awakens to find himself trapped inside the Phoenix stone, tormented by a traumatic experience from his time in the Civil War and forced to face his darkest demon in order to get out. On the outside, Bonnie (Kat Graham) is in a race against the clock to get Damon out before the effects of the Phoenix stone take over and leave him changed forever. Paul Wesley, Candice King and Zach Roerig also star. Deb Chow directed the episode written by Holly Brix & Neil Reynolds (#710). Original airdate 1/29/2016.

Can someone explain to me why Bonnie is "in a race against the clock to get DAMON out"? What about Stefan? What, he's fine in there because he's not a terrible as Damon? F**K these writers, seriously.

F**K these writers, seriously. I didn't catch that the first time. It is odd considering they both got stabbed and is in the stone yet Damon is the only one seen as the real 'threat' from the effects of the stone. What else is new? I mean the promo shows us a scene of Julian standing over Stefan's body, ready to burn him to death but there's no mention of that in the ep description for some reason. It just says how 'Paul Wesley stars'. Though perhaps we won't even get to see Stefan's hell this episode with it being Damon focused and all. It'd be the only way to explain Bonnie not being as concerned about Stefan: plot convenience.

He'll come out stinking of superiority as if he doesn't enough already.
