What's with JP suddenly attacking Damon's intelligence? This is the second episode she's had her mouthpieces state how dumb they think Damon is. Nonetheless, this episode was a bit more enjoyable than the last. As mentioned there was only one story focus instead of Enzo over here doing this, Rayna/Stefan over here doing that etc. I did like the Defan scene in the snow and the lead up/significance of the hide and seek quote. They actually felt like real brothers for once. Though Defan is always up and down in quality with moments that you think is progress only for things to go back to what it was like it never happened.
It was a bit confusing having two Stefans. They almost felt the same. Stefan was making sarcastic jokes in his 'Marty' body the same as the serial killer was being sarcastic in Stefan's real body. I didn't even get that Stefan wasn't even supposed to be himself in that bus scene. I was wondering if they maybe couldn't afford vampire effects anymore since he wasn't vamp speeding people off. I actually don't think it was necessary for Paul Wesley to play both. It would have felt more immersive to see Marty playing himself, to get the feel that Stefan was in another body, and then when the pivotal Defan snow scene came, it would have been more impactful to see Stefan's real self show up then on the screen then as they spoke (since this seems like the most logical reason to keep Paul Wesley as both. That scene would have looked weird if it was a random guy).
Valerie is really getting numb on me and I still find her voice nails on a chalkboard. Is she just going to assume the worst of everyone? Not that I'm a fan of Alaric/Caroline or anything but I'm glad he got some lines in to defend himself. Both she and Rayna really need to keep their mouths shut since they've hardly been around these people long enough to have any sort of opinion on these characters or their lives.

Marty can't vamp speed, therefore Stefan couldn't vamp speed people off the bus. I agree with you that it would have made more sense to 'see' Marty instead of Stefan but then they'd have to actually pay that actor and expect him to act...LOL I think Paul wanted to do something different so this was it. He'll be good as the serial killer next week I assume and it's ironic that Stefan's body will be used that way which he essentially is in his vampire form as the ripper. Remember how we once talked about how Stefan could have been a serial killer had he not been turned since he had the inclination to be the ripper? Yeah...I still think that and perhaps this was their way of implying it as well in a round about way. Lots of double meanings with Stefan here from addict to serial killer.

Oh also should note that this episode clarified that Rayna only hunted the worst of the worst vampires and essentially trapped their souls in the stone. It's laughable that we're supposed to believe that Rayna considered Damon of being worthy of being put in this stone, that Damon is as worst as a serial killer vampire. As if a real evil and out of control vampire on a murderous rampage would just willingly offer to put themselves in the stone in the first place anyways lol. You'd think the fact that Damon would offer to take Stefan's scar for himself, knowing what that means, would tip Rayna off to the type of selfless character Damon is. But you can never expect the writing to make sense anyways.

Well she didn't get to know Damon, and Stefan is a special snowflake vampire who has never rippered his way through towns and villages for decades. Rayna will never make sense because this show doesn't make sense most of time these days. There is only one consistent thread than runs throughout the whole series pretty much and that is that Damon loves Elena, and Elena loves Damon. THE END. The rest is just filler to make up the numbers. This season makes that obvious.

There is only one consistent thread than runs throughout the whole series pretty much and that is that Damon loves Elena, and Elena loves Damon. THE END. The rest is just filler to make up the numbers. This season makes that obvious. Yeah that's what makes this whole thing even more nonsensical. Like you said she didn't even get to know Damon and yet she comes in with all these opinions that just feel pre established, essentially a mouthpiece with scripted words. And she may have watched Stefan on the run as he traveled but she still doesn't know the full story of his uncontrollable blood lust and the reason he had to go on the diet in the first place. Either Stefan's ripper ways are completely brushed over by characters are made to pretend like it never happened. Like I mentioned before, I'd be less frustrated with Rayna taking a liking to Stefan if she had examples of doing this with other targets. Beau also seemed to be hit with her sword by mistake as he got away with a scar too and he was also pretty tame when he was around his heretic family, they were pretty much kept under wraps by Lily from doing anything too crazy so why didn't she get a change of heart watching Beau when he was doing his everyday life with the heretics, sparring with Julian and the like? The fact that Rayna's making it out that out of all the vampires, Stefan is the only good one, this special snowflake is what makes it pretty BS. But yep, Rayna doesn't make sense. And the moment she had Stefan tied up and started talking the typical mantra about how Damon deserved to be in that stone and not Stefan is when her character started being nonsensical. She should care less about the drama of these brothers, she was supposed to be magically engineered to hunt down whoever was marked with no remorse but the fact that she has this soft spot for Stefan and calls him on the phone to chat with him causally is just really stupid writing.
