This is not a ship thread but a friendship thread. Because I love their friendship and I was really upset when Alaric wasn't talking to Damon.  |

I love these two. I think all the things Damon had Alaric doing was really good for him. It kept him from just drinking his guts out and gave him purpose in his life once he knew what had become of Isabelle and since Jenna died.
It's actually a pretty complicated dynamic being as Damon was responsible for what ultimately happened to Isabelle, but she would have found a way to become a vampire without him and I think Alaric realizes that. I recently watched that scene where Alaric goes after Damon to kill him.
He truly hated Damon at that point in time, enough to want to kill him even though the odds were against him succeeding and Damon tried to convince him to stop and think about what was going to happen to him if he didn't. I think in a way, Alaric wanted to die, was not afraid of dying. He'd lost everything already and he was self destructing in that moment.
Damon was pretty cruel to Alaric when he didn't stop and let him die a slow death in front of him. Obviously at that point Damon didn't care about Alaric either.
So their relationship took on quite the evolution, too, going from enemies to friends and recently back to Alaric being royally pissed off at Damon and now they are friends again. This last 'death' of Alaric at Damon's hands was to me something he felt was a betrayal by someone he trusted. He had grown to trust Damon and to have him so cavalierly 'off him' was something that Alaric was deeply hurt by, so it did take him a while to 'get over it.'
But even Damon felt the impact of losing his friendship and he didn't like it. Alaric had become someone he cared about. So, in a way, it taught Damon a lesson that if he wanted to have these people in his life, and have them trust him, he had to treat them right. I was annoyed at the time with Alaric and his attitude, but I think it was good that it took him a while to let Damon back in.

I love their friendship... I mean you would have never thought they would have become friends, but now that they are they are pretty perfect best friends. I agree Alaric had to give him the cold shoulder... he can't just Damon treat him badly with no recourse, but I am happy they are friends again  |

I was really, really upset when they weren't friends. I think it upset me more than anything else.
I agree, it was good that it took Alaric a long time to forgive Damon. Damon might think before acting impulsively.

I'm a little sad that Alaric is still acting like he doesn't like Damon. I thought they'd gotten past it and now Damon has saved him by giving him blood so like, doesn't that make up for it now?  I just love these two working together too much to not want to see more of it. |
