Decided to make this thread after all since we kind of stumbled on it in the Anti-Klaus thread.
Elena was deadset on killing Kol to complete Jeremy's Mark (all those Vampires she has a hand in killing but is OK because she doesn't have to look them in the eye. Just one that's rubbed her the wrong way and she's good to go) and to free Damon of Kol's compulsion to kill Jeremy which seemed to be undone on it's own with vervain being added to the town's water supply. Now, Elena was pretty much driven by the fact that Damon was locked up away from her and yet when Kol got invited in to talk about a truce, not once did she mention Damon or having him freed as part of their deal. You could have gotten Damon freed (or the vervain would have kicked in), Jeremy off the target list and gotten him back on track to getting the Mark done the 'responsible' way by finding bad Vampires.
So Kol comes in, he senses something is weird and takes leave after he feels business is done. Elena was waiting for Jeremy & Bonnie to arrive to kill him but they missed the chance. Kol comes back after Jeremy is back in the house and attacks them cause why wait around for the Gilbert Clan to kill you? Now, one of the stances that was brought up is that Kol didn't have to come back that night, knowing something was up. Or at that, after he made his phone call to Klaus and informed him that the gang was making moves against the family again, Kol could have waited for Klaus to arrive. Little brother had no reason to be concerned with the Gilberts being able to kill him. Bekah had the last dagger, and, stupidly, Kol himself had the White Oak Stake *ON HIS PERSONS*. He had no reason to believe that this half-ass Hunter and baby Vamp would pose any threat to him.
He heads into the house on the attack and when the chance presents itself, instead of killing Elena, he runs her through the stomach, not the heart. He then drags Jeremy downstairs to cut off his arm(s) to get rid of the Mark (not killing him either because of the Hunter's Curse but he does offer to give Jeremy some blood afterwards to heal up). Elena frees herself (should have snapped her neck) and distracts Kol long enough so Jeremy can get free and for Elena to grab the Stake, toss it to Jeremy and have Kol exposed long enough for the killing blow.
All the ass hattery aside on the plot front with this whole setup, was the plan to kill Kol even necessary, outside of diplomacy? Originals seem fine making deals with others and I think if Elena had been more focused on actually making one and less on setting him up for death, Should Kol have even gone back or should he have shrugged it off, knowing they had no means to kill him (he put that particular weapon into reach)?
My problem with all this, after have typing all this up, is how stupid it all is. Elena not asking about Damon in the truce, the plan to kill an Original not having a weapon to do so on hand, inviting that Original into your house (and later his Brother who you just pissed off), Kol telling Klaus they were trying to kill him when even Klaus should know that they don't have a weapon, the fact that Kol was carrying the White Oak Stake in his jacket pocket, Elena being able to put up a fight with an Original who is over 1,000 years old and so on. The cards were stacked against Kol in all this but you can't honestly pat the Gilberts on the back when you take each individual piece to look at and realize that there is no way they should have succeeded. It's just one long, strung out plan of stupidity that in some 9th dimension of Hell, actually worked.

I don't understand how no one has actually taken into consideration that silus must be a big deal and a big that if one of the originals was warning them. If I was Elena iwouldve asked more questions regarding silus but she.didnt care.
The thing with Elena is that she gets all uptight when people like damon or stefan put the people she loves in danger but she is okay with doing it herself. Hence getting her brother to kill Kol and sending matt to dagger rebekah. It doesn't make any sense to me.
If I was her I wouldve been looking to make an actual deal with him

The whole thing was SO STUPID. Kol should have been able to tear Elena's head off in 2 seconds flat. See: Elijah and Trevor. Also, he had the stake on him exactly why? They didn't think he might be telling the truth about Silas being a dangerous mo fo, why?
Also, the writers chose to kill of a character that hott with a back story I desperately wanted to be explored because......why?
Kol better be the first person Silas resurrects.
Is it just me or have the Originals gotten less powerful and more dense as the seasons have progressed? If you just look back at Elija's first scenes...knocking Trevor's head clean off; calmly throwing those coins through the restaurant window with enough strength to shatter the glass; tearing 2 hearts out of vamps simultaneously...
And they expect me to believe that Elena and Jeremy -- a baby vamp and a baby vamp slayer -- could take Kol down? PLEASE.
I need Elijah back because apparently he's the only original left with a brain and with the finesse to kill someone without breaking a sweat.
The whole Kol thing was so stupidly contrived.

It's all about the cure for these people and they're all ignoring the fact that it's supposed to be buried with Silas, the first immortal and someone who can raise "Hell on Earth". Kol tried to explain it to whoever would listen but it's in one ear and out the other: Kol ran with Witches who paid concern about Silas and Kol himself ran into Silas followers in the past. With what the Witches told him, he slaughtered them. Why is it Kol is the only one taking any precaution? Kol might be a troublemaker but for him to be so uptight about the whole thing should be raising concern for the gang at least, to heed the warning/rethink their pursuit. Elena overlooking all this info, when she sat down with Kol, is just mind boggling to me. People are pursuing the cure for her benefit and she's being warned about the danger that comes with it and she ignores it and actually sides with the idea of completing Jeremy's Mark, one of the keys to said cure? Why? It's like the story went haywire after Kol showed up and they had to dumb it down to make him a casualty. Elena blew her chance for a peaceful deal. She could have told her party to back off the pursuit of the cure, just to be sure and to get some more info on Silas and Kol would free Damon and leave Jeremy alone. That's win-win. Kol gets someone who listens to his warnings, Elena can stop worrying about Jeremy being a target again.

I need Elijah back because apparently he's the only original left with a brain and with the finesse to kill someone without breaking a sweat. The whole Kol thing was so stupidly contrived. I'm just as confused about having the Stake on him. He should have hid it or handed it over to someone that wasn't likely to kill one of the remaining Originals/was more responsible like Elijah. The timing of his death is just as asinine. They bring him back and build him up with this interesting history (running with Witches and his respect for them, Silas followers, being in NO and Klaus daggering him for 'no reason', etc.) only to kill him off? What was the point then? Why make him this interesting and then kill him off? Inconsistent is a word that goes hand-in-hand with TVD. A few episodes ago, we saw Klaus tear through 12 Hybrids like nothing. I imagine being 1,000+ years old, him, Elijah & maybe even Kol partook in wars that relied on actually being upfront (pre-gunpowder age) and had a particular edge with their speed/strength/senses. I'd expect Kol to actually be able to hold his own but nope, he gets killed/held down by a baby Vampire when he had his way with Damon an episode ago. Another smack in the face? He took out 5+ (?) baby Vamps at the bar on his own So what happened here? Surprise? As soon as Elena laid a hand on him, he should have tossed her like a ragdoll. She shouldn't have been able to reach into his pocket, take the Stake and toss it to Jeremy. Kol should have been able to stop her while she was yelling "Here Jeremy" or caught it midair and dashed out. Instead, we're served this BS scenario and are supposed to believe it. We saw Kol catch a crossbow bolt/stake out of midair just a few minutes before and I'm sure that was moving faster than Jeremy did crossing the Kitchen so why didn't he catch Jeremy's arm or dodge out the way? There is no consistent power scale in this show. We had Stefan, Matt and Elena handle Finn & Sage who are both 900+ and they succeeded in killing the Original of that pair. We had this recent Kol mess. We've seen Katherine hold her own against both Brothers who she oversees in age. We've seen pretty much every other older Vampire put Damon down like nothing (Sage, Pearl, Lexi, Rose, Klaus) but then we have the "I'm Angry" Hulkoline scene along with her taking on the Tomb Vampires by herself. This last episode really did a number on me =\

Well I will be the first to say I didn't want Kol to die. So let's put that out there.... But I wont bash Elena for making up this plan like many people have been doing out on twitter and tumblr. I haven't seen any here per se so I'm not speaking of any member. But I will say at first I didn't like the idea of her plan but in the end it got the mark so I guess it worked. And honestly all those poor vampires she was willing to kill..... I don't care. They are vampires who drink blood from people. Outside of My Scooby gang from Mystic Falls I could give a F about any other vampire who dies that I never met on my TV screen. Call me heartless. I'm ok with it. But this is a vampire show.... no real morals... lol...we all know that, that's why they try to get redemption for the ghastly Klaus. And you wrote exactly what I would have said... KOL YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO GO BACK!!!! It was a cocky thing to do and look it got him killed. In the end even with Klaus there to be diplomatic Kol, unless white ash staked, would have kept trying to bring down the Gilbert's. Why Klaus wasn't in talks with Kol and why it was Elena and Jeremy is beyond me??? Klaus should have been hunting down Kol to stake him or talk to him instead of baby sitting Damon, asking him love advice and DR. Philing. So in the end were they right in making up this master plan??? No. I mean did Kol really need to die? No. But he did kill all of those vampires and had he not Jeremy would have been closer to the full mark. He was also trying to kill Jeremy last episode with the whole Damon compulsion so he really isn't without spots here. What if Damon had succeed? So back to the topic... Did I want Kol dead? NOPE. Was the plan stupid? YES. Do I blame Elena for making the plan? NO. And do I think Kol had it coming once he came back into the house with the white oak stake and can really only blame himself? YES. Did it get the damn mark so we can move on with this stupid frustrating story-line? YES. And do I feel sorry for Kol's line of vampires? NOPE. So yeah that's how I feel. It's just my opinion on the matter so feel free to debate it.

Cocky or not, for Kol, he had no reason to fear for his life going into the house. He had the Stake, Bekah had the dagger. Now, if he was brighter, he should have tossed the damn thing in the house gutter where no one would think to look and pick it up on the way out of the house. But nope, jacket pocket where someone could easily glance it like Elena did. I figure Kol's mistake is just one in a long line of stupidity since the Stake has left Alaric's possession. Damon hid it but Elena found it, Elena had it then Stefan talked her down from killing Bekah, Stefan handed it to Caroline to stake Bekah who took it from Caroline who had it stolen by Kol...who had it taken by Elena and was staked by Jeremy who now owns it. In the next episode or two, someone will take it from Jeremy.
And Klaus did have a plan. He wanted Stefan to get the dagger from Bekah so they could use it on Kol but Bekah wasn't going to give it up for Klaus' benefit. Klaus only had a problem with the plan after he found out that things were changed (hence him asking Damon). Klaus wanted to deal with Kol on his terms aka dagger and box him. Why Klaus didn't physically put Kol down (snap his neck and then chain him down somewhere or have Bonnie restrain him) being the big bad Hybrid is beyond me. The daggers have become a crutch for him with dealing with his family. I don't think he was actively hunting Kol either cause his own plans were missing the point. It was only till Elena invited him over to talk and invited him in did things become more dire (Klaus knows that only Elijah has access/or doesn't so Kol being in the house was evidence enough there was a plan in play).

Of course most of her plans blow up in her face, but this one succeeded and we move closer to getting this cure crap over with so he died for a good cause. I would have liked him to stick around but given the direction of the storyline, it wasn't possible. If Klaus had been quicker he would have survived. But the writers apparently didn't want that. Maybe the actor didn't want to go on the new spin-off. Who knows.

I mean how many times did Stefan stab Beks in the back? How many times has Stefan tried to pull a fast one on Klaus and now look!!! And Kol may not have had a reason to fear Team Gilbert but they sure did kill his original a$$ so in the end Kol should have been smarter! But damn do I love a cocky Kol! I will miss him.

He could have compelled all of Mystic falls even Liz to kill Jeremy. At the end of the day Kol wanted Jeremy dead because if he didn't why compel Damon. Yes he was just going to tear off his arm in the house but maybe Kol couldn't pull the trigger himself on Jeremy. Maybe it was easier for him to have Damon do it? i don't know why one minute he's all compelling Damon to kill then just wanting to pull arms off. None the less he did what he did and Elena did what she did and the mark is done and the story can move on now.

Kol didn't want to outright kill Jeremy because of the Hunter's Curse. That's pretty much it, unless he does actually like Jeremy from their Denver time together which is the only reason he approached them to talk in the first place at the bar. Klaus killed all 5 Original Hunters and was cursed with their visions/voices for 52 years (iirc). Kol wants none of that which is why he put it on Damon to do. You saw how Elena was with just a day or so: she was ready to commit suicide.

The plan was typical Elena All or Nothing gamble just more bloodthirsty and less self sacrificing than usual. Like her second deal with Elijah, killing Kol ticked a lot of boxes with the added bonus of revenge for him using her boyfriend to kill her brother which would have driven Damon to eventual suicide.
My only problem with the plan is that the show will never acknowledge how cold blooded it was but continue to try and paint Elena as an angel of compassion.

I doubt it'll be brought up again. Elena just sentenced maybe thousands of Vampires to death because she couldn't honestly sit down with Kol and hash out a deal. Granted, these are Vampires we don't know (and by all means, don't exist outside of being a bullet point as to why Elena shouldn't have killed Kol/Bekah) but if we look at it from a realistic POV, how many did she just kill that were struggling with the Vampire thing just like she was weeks ago? Some of them probably doing their best to get by without hurting anyone and trying to live a normal life with their family.
At that, how the hell do you explain that many bodies just dropping/going grey? Finn & Kol died so that's a lot of people (Finn less so but Sage was kind of filling in that role on his end I guess and Kol has been up most of the time too).
I'm surprised Jeremy went along with it though but I know they wouldn't bring it up just to 'move the story along'. Jeremy had a problem hurting innocent people and his initial plan was to do things 'by the book'. Not forcing the change on people, taking out the bad ones. Why did he turn a blind eye to the fact that by killing Kol, he was killing Vampires trying to fly straight like his sister and his friends? So because Kol was 'bad' or looking to do harm to him and his friends, those connected to his bloodline were forfeit? Bull. I would think Jeremy would voice concern over this given his stance with Stefan and Klaus' methods.

Let me tell you what I think about it. Kol was an interesting character who brought a bit action in the whole cure plot. But I can understand why Elena considered to kill him. She wanted to safe both guys she loves most at the moment. Well it is a little bit cold hearted but Elena isn't a godness. She has a dark and a light side, like everybody else. Her good side will always be the bigger one, but when she got a vampire the dark side also grew. And she is sired to Damon, she thinks in many ways like Damon now. And this plan was totally Damon, don't you think?
Jeremy is a hunter now. Killing a lot of vampires by taking down one...GREAT. No human had to be killed and it is in his blood to kill vampires now. He thinks that nearly every vampire is bad. So no asking why he did it. Besides the other Hunters he is a quite good guy. A lamb between the hunters who are usually driven to kill every vampire out there.
Ok, Kol was kinda easy to take down, but I totally can understand why he carried the weapon in his jacket. 1. He could use it everytime he wants against his family...and he knew that they would attac him again. 2. Where would you hide it when a lot of people are searching for it? Kol had selfconfidence, he didn't think that someone would kill him so easy with a weapon like this in his jacket.
The interesting thing is how will Klaus take revenge? He probably won't kill Elena because of the hybrids, so he has to kill someone she loves. He won't kill Jeremy for now because of the map. So whom is he taking down to still his pain whom will he hurt or kill or klauslike both?

There was a diplomatic way to save both guys she loves, without all the bloodshed or risk. Like I said, she didn't even ask about freeing Damon when talking about the truce. Her acting odd made Kol realize something was up and the whole 'truce' was dead in the water because she didn't take the idea of actually having one seriously. She was dead set on killing Kol and for whatever reason, completing Jeremy's Mark all of a sudden. It doesn't add up/make sense to me.
Jeremy is a bit of an oddity cause he can control himself around Damon but he's gone off on near everyone else (Stefan, Elena all the damn time, and just recently Abby). He doesn't think that nearly every Vampire is bad, it's just some supernatural 'impulse'. People have to point out to him in scenes what he's doing or that he has a stake in his hand as he himself doesn't even seem to realize it. Jeremy's problem with Klaus & Stefan's methods was that they were going out and turning people for him to kill. He seemed to be on board with Damon's initial plan because they were going to go out and actually 'hunt' Vampires who were being problematic. I imagine if that came to be, we'd see a little side series of them meeting Vampires attacking people but just trying to make it by/not knowing how to deal with it. What then? Jeremy didn't just want to kill Vampires/to finish his Mark. He seemed to want to actually deal with those that were malicious. It's only that base line impulse that made him act 'odd' around certain characters (Elena) but Jeremy as the person, not the Hunter, wanted to do some 'good' with his new powers.
Kol could use it but I think he just took it from Bekah as a deterrent from attacking him head on in his goal to stop the search for the cure. Hell, he had Bekah dead to rights in the other episode but stopped short (Klaus came in afterwards but it really did seem like he wanted Bekah to stand down without him having to do anything on his part; just a scare tactic). Bekah initially took it to get it out of the hands of the gang who have intent to use it on them. I think if she had kept it, she would have taken a trip out of town to get rid of it for the time being. Kol was reckless with it (like the gang) and Klaus just can't be trusted so I can see Bekah doing away with it herself or trusting the one Brother who has some sense to not use it on the family (and who had originally proposed a deal with the gang last season to get the Stake from Alaric so he could take it with him).
Klaus said he doesn't want to Cure to make more Hybrids (cause they can be broken and we know why he originally wanted them) so if we take that at face value, he can and will Kill Elena. He wants to destroy the cure cause like Kol feared Silas, they're immortal and both Silas & the Cure pose a threat to that status. Jeremy he probably doesn't want to kill cause he'd have to track down another Hunter and I'm sure he doesn't want the Hunter's Curse again. Right now, Jeremy is vital because Klaus doesn't want to wait another 900 or whatever years to find another Hunter. He seems to be wanting to still court Caroline despite what he's done and her using him, he likes Ripper Stefan, he seems to like Damon in some respects/or wants the guy's advice and Bonnie probably doesn't even register on his mind. So...Matt or Tyler. Tyler serves multiple purposes: the failed Hybrid thing that Klaus can tie up with his death, Tyler will most likely make another attempt cause Klaus killed his mother, he's currently Caroline's BF which is a role he wants, and he's part of the inner circle in the gang so killing him gets the point across to Elena & Co..
