Here is the similarities from Buffy
Glory (Glorificus) is a god trapped in a woman's body. Humans in BTVS can be a sort of vessel for their essence, so to speak. Buffy has a sister (Dawn) who isn't really her sister but a "key" (energy) that can be used to open the door to the other side and thus allow all monsters possible walk the earth (the First has a similar purpose but he works differently; kind of like Silas). The protectors of the key entrust Buffy with it to keep it safe from Glorificus, who wants to use it to rule the other side and earth (as she used to, a long time ago).
Ben is still Glory, but in another manifestation. Her "divine" essence is so strong that one single human body can't contain it safely. That's why she needs to possess two bodies. Ben, unlike Glory, has a conscience, so he's obviously Glory's good side. However, the two sides (evil and good) don't actually communicate or influence each other; they're completely separate (The evil side wins in the end because Glory kills Ben). I suppose that the "Ben-Glory conundrum" refers to the battle between good and evil within the same person. Perhaps Silas has a good side, which will be contained within another human being (other than Shane)?
I hope what I wrote makes sense.

Here's one Buffy/Spike reference down... This might not bode well for fans who were hoping to see Caroline (Candice Accola) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) in a scene similar to the one the hybrid shared with Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) a few episodes ago. According to some Vampire Diaries spoilers from E! Online, these two might be relegated to the friends zone. See, Caroline still isn’t over Tyler (Michael Trevino), and she brings up his name a lot while she’s assisting Klaus with his little stake dilemma in Season 4, Episode 18, “American Gothic.” Apparently the word “friends” is thrown around quite a bit as well. The good news? All these conversations happen while Klaus is shirtless. More bad news? According to E!, it’s all very Buffy and Spike circa Season 7. If you’ve never seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, that basically means a platonic, respectful relationship where one person is in love and the other never quite manages to reciprocate those feelings.
