Well isn't a command to turn off your emotions essentially a command that affects your feelings because you're diminishing them? I mean maybe you're technically right but that still kinda blurs the emotions line...

It's an action, but I see what you mean. I just think this is where the writers can say it's an action. This whole thing has been a giant joke anyway so why stop now?

From what I understand, the writers have done their best to keep it as vague as possible, in young vampires there literally is a switch to isolate them from emotion both their own and any sort of empathy for someone else's. Which sounds like a coping mechanism for a newly turned vampire, biting into flesh and drinking blood isn't normal behaviour for most humans, but people do get used to things. After a while it will be less horrifying and drinking blood becomes associated with survival.
Then there's the sire bond which seems to be combination of wanting to please the person you love and compulsion.
I think while her emotions are off Elena wont be affected by the bond because there's nothing for it to draw on but it will come back into play once she's feeling again and as long as she still loves Damon.

Noooo...that thing needs to NOT come back EVER! LOL if it's any consolation I don't believe it will matter because the switch is staying off until the finale and Damon somehow ends up human.

Ugh....I hope not. I've been predicting Damon going human for so long that I'm crying wolf now so I will just wait and see. I've been pretty positive overall that things will turn out OK so I am just hoping for that.

Yes, newbie vampires can switch their humanity on and off, but vampires over 200 years old no longer have that ability. The hint is, that when Elena's humanity returns the SB wil be broken.

Noooo...that thing needs to NOT come back EVER! I am with you on that. The SB needs to be gone by the series finale and not come back...its so lame and they have jumped thr shark if they cant think of new angst while giving them a real romance.

my question is if her turning off her humanity breaks the sire bond how come nobody has figured that out yet after all these years? I mean she is not the first vampire to go through this or flip the switch.

Because this is TVD, same reason nobody bothered with the Five or Silas for 1000 years until now.

I think flipping a switch is an action. Yes it's flipping off emotions but he's telling her to essentially turn off her humanity not emotions. I can see how it's confusing but it made sense to me. Turning it off doesn't only essentially affect her emotions it affects how she acts too. Eating cheerleaders, throwing violent parties etc.
I think the SB will be gone. Julie almost praised the person who asked about it being broken now for figuring it out.
And I'm not afraid of Damon turning human. If he wants to be a vpire again how cool to see Elena do it. Her blood changing him. Then they'd be so bonded!!! Her blood turns him and his blood turned her. But if he turns human does all the people he turned turn magically human??? Like how a original dies his line dies too?

Well if she did turn Damon, please, no damn sire bond! If there was one we wouldn't have to question Damon's feelings at all!!! Lol But if there was one we'd k ow these two were just meant to be! I mean come on a bond magically happens when both their blood is used!!! I hate the sire bond but the only good thing is that there has to be something more than just the norm for that to even take place. Supernatural magic!! It's not everyday a sire bond happens so we know these two are connected on more levels.
