Can you guys believe that I'm turning 35 this year?! Wow, time flies when you're making change Every single day so far of this my 34th year I spent tremendously grateful for the symphony of love and inspiration within the ISF family. United, we spent the past year fighting for our dreams and living for our innovations, dedication and collaborations. There was no other way I would have wanted to spend any of those days. I can't begin to thank you all enough for the way you invigorate this planet and all of the people believing in it. I share my personal birthday with another massive celebration: ISF's birthday! Both ISF and I receive gifts all year round! ISF is so fortunate to have an outpouring of energy, skills and love all the way from the worldwide volunteers that team up to support and teach one another to the Board Members who provide us with an endless supply of strength. These gifts are irreplaceable and way surpass any physical gift. And while I'm so touched to receive physical gifts in the mail, my heart tends to break a little when I think about the impact behind those items… the materials, manufacturing, packing, shipping, etc. The generosity of your time, ideas, collaborations, donations, and accomplishments is really the gift that knocks me off my feet. I humbly treasure this in a sacred place within my heart. I know many of you and I know the selfless desire you have to give, celebrate and contribute to ISF. I also know how supportive of ISF goals such as opening our own sanctuary you are. My birthday is in a time of year where funds are going to holiday gifts and when funds are tight for many people. I have a goal this year… we can get 1 million people of the 7 billion on the planet to donate $35 dollars. I know it sounds simple, but all donations big and small fuel our resources to continue expanding and making change for the voiceless of this planet: our skies, seas, energy, habitats and of course our furry friends. So if you can donate now, two months from now or at my birthday thank you. Or maybe you can donate less than six dollars a month over the next six months. If you can’t donate then you can spread the word about this year’s birthday wish. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for making the last few birthdays the most momentous and life-changing. Love you ALL! xo Ian www.isfoundation.com/campaign/ians-35th-birthday

I still need to get around to signing up for a credit card. Until then I can't make any online purchases. I really want one of those shirts. Has anyone (on this board) donated to his project yet? I feel like I should but I usually donate to the SPCA every year.

Photos: (Instagram, Getty) Lots of us played with plastic dinosaur toys as a kid (still got mine!!!), but Ian Somerhalder’s using these well-known and beloved childhood toys as a way to make a point, and to get us talking about climate change. ian somerhalder ✔ @iansomerhalder Question of the day!Im here in Boston talking climate change-funny(or NOT funny) how our irresponsible… http://instagram.com/p/gDleaEKJ5Y His message continues on Instagram: “use of ancient plants and animals is changing our world, warming us.NOT good!! Pass it along!” He also includes this thought-provoking pic that will probably make you think of dinosaur toys in a whole new way: If you pass this image around on social media, odds are it’ll get your friends talking! And like Ian, this can be the perf opportunity to start talking about the earth (and maybe pull out your old dinosaur toys for nostalgia's sake). If you want to join Ian's work, I'm sure he'd be happy to recommend his group, the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. Ian’s also got something big going on for his b-day this year, and you have till December to take part! He wrote, “I have a goal this year… we can get 1 million people of the 7 billion on the planet to donate $35 dollars. I know it sounds simple, but all donations big and small fuel our resources to continue expanding and making change for the voiceless of this planet: our skies, seas, energy, habitats and of course our furry friends.” He’s asking for $35 dollars because it’s his 35th b-day, and can you imagine how much he’ll be able to help the world if he gets those funds?! What a birthday that would be! act.mtv.com/posts/sweet-tweet-ian-somerhalder-plays-with-toy-dinosaurs-for-a-good-cause/

“Vampire Diaries” star/environmental activist Ian Somerhalder was in Boston on Tuesday to finish shooting “Years of Living Dangerously,” a docu-series about climate change that will air on Showtime next year. After Somerhalder posted his whereabouts on Instagram and Twitter, local fans responded with excitement, including Allie Raich, who asked, “Ian Somerhalder is somewhere in Boston. How am I supposed to go to class??,” and Tiaundra Loren Smith, who tweeted, a bit more emphatically, “Ian Somerhalder is in Boston!!!!! Ahhhhghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!” We’re sure those ladies are just excited about environmentalism. “Years of Living Dangerously” will also feature Jessica Alba, Olivia Munn, Boston’s own Matt Damon, and, according to the Internet Movie Database, former Red Sox star Nomar Garciaparra. During Somerhalder’s visit, he stopped by Cheers and posed for a photo with hostess Allix Kallini. She reports that he kissed her on the head — and that she might not wash her hair for a while.

I get where Ian is coming from, if you get the youths who will be the grown ups of tomorrow socially aware of everything around them by the time they are adults they will already be contributing to environmental issues. Recycling and buying echo friendly items would already be second nature to them, they will be the ones pushing for change, also they pass it on to their children who in turn will do the same and before you know it we'll be in a world that thinks like Ian does. Change doesn't come at once, it is a ripple effect.

I couldn't help but smile reading that, the idea of children patting Ian on the head and saying 'Isn't he cute'
