Team Ian Humans are currently consuming far more than our planet can provide or sustain. We are polluting our air with carbon emissions, destroying our forests and species, and filling our seas with plastic and waste. The time is now to go greener by making choices that are good for people and the planet. We can do it by coming together as communities-- businesses, organizations, schools and individuals -- to connect our resources and skills to our passion for a more sustainable, resource efficient way of living. We can do it by being more informed and by doing business with companies that have demonstrated their commitment to these issues. We can plant more trees, grow more kitchen gardens and just think more carefully about how the decisions we make impact our one and only Planet Earth

ISF is proud to announce that Ian Somerhalder will soon be designated as a UNEP Goodwill Ambassador! Friends, this is really great news – and absolute proof that the ISF mission is making waves across the globe. On Thursday, June 5, 2014, the world will be celebrating World Environment Day, and our president, Ian Somerhalder, will be designated as a United Nations Environment Programme Goodwill Ambassador. We truly could not be more proud of him right now. Ian is currently in Bridgetown, the capital of the small island nation of Barbados, where he has already joined in their World Environment Day celebrations. Each year, this day is celebrated around the world as this glorious earth’s inhabitants revel in the natural beauty surrounding us as we fight to protect it. Individuals from every nation are encouraged to participate in this celebration by cleaning up local beaches, planting trees and making small changes that together create a huge impact for our planet. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Activities Around the Globe”, with a subtheme of “Small Island Developing States and Climate Change". If we start in our own backyards, we can aid smaller and developing states by reducing our personal contribution to climate change, thereby lessening its effects on them. One of Ian’s first tasks is to work alongside his fellow ambassadors to complete the World Environment Day 2014 challenge, which combats climate change.“We are all connected", says this team of passionate and effective world changers. “The challenges faced by islands will face us all. So, every action we take to reduce waste and mitigate climate change counts. Join one of our teams and pledge to make a difference by taking action for WED." To connect with Ian in his “Go Greener” challenge, click here. He is specifically calling on communities, including businesses, schools and individuals – anyone who can connect using their resources to help others out (Right now, Ian is in the lead, and we want to see him finish on top!). “Humans are currently consuming far more than our planet can provide or sustain”, says Ian. “We are polluting our air with carbon emissions, destroying our forests and species, and filling our seas with plastic and waste. The time is now to go greener by making choices that are good for people and the planet.” About World Environment Day: The celebration of World Environment Day began in 1972 and has grown to become one of the main vehicles through which the United Nations encourages positive action for the environment. Through WED, UNEP enables everyone to realize not only the responsibility to care for the Earth, but also reminds one and all of their individual power to become agents of change. Every action counts, and when multiplied by a global chorus, becomes exponential in its impact. WED is a big celebration, engaging millions across the globe through events on the ground in over 100 countries. Every year, participants, young and old, organize clean up campaigns, art exhibits, tree-planting drives, concerts, dance recitals, recycling drives, social media campaigns and different contests themed around caring for the planet.

From Ian's instagram: We did it! Signed the UNEP paperwork with my new brother and world-changing Executive Director of the UNEP who is also the Under Secretary-General of the United Nations Achim Steiner in Parliament with the incredible distinguished members of the green government of Barbados. Thank you to the host country of Barbados for hosting the UNEP’s World Environment Day 2014 and all of the love- it truly shows that Barbados intends on being the greenest island in Latin america and the Caribbean! Who is with them???!!! What other Islands want this??? I can’t wait to hear the roar of the saying “Raise your voice not the sea level!” Furthermore: Let’s DO SOMETHING about it! Elect officials that do not turn a blind eye to this problem we are facing called climate change/disruption whatever you want to call it- it’s happening. Do not elect officials that want only shot-term profits- let’s inverts in our fuc%^&* future! YOUR FUTURE! Ian proud of the fact that Barbados is the first of the Caribbean Islands making the move towards a greener future.
