I don't see what was redeemable about Markos either. We didn't even get a picture of him as a character, so how could he be sympathetic? We were never told anything about him as a person. He was about as well thought out as a Bond villain, in my opinion. Klaus and Katherine are the only ones who ever really appeared sympathetic. Oh yeah I forgot about Markos. I guess that's the problem with him, he's just way too forgettable as a villain lol. Yeah he didn't really come off as sympathetic and redeemable but his overall character was just bland and he was just there. But he still didn't feel as truly evil and ruthless as he could have been. Even Klaus/Katherine, while having those moments where JP would try to redeem them, Klaus/Katherine were still as ruthless, evil, and as selfish as they come.
That was one of the things about Klaus in TVD and more so in TO where the focus is on him, he does some 'nice' things but he also had plenty of moments where he was ruthless to those close to him and had elaborate schemes to get back at people who looked at him the wrong way. The way he reacted at Bekah's 'betrayal', it really felt like he had the mind to kill her if it wasn't for Elijah.
But getting off track lol, back to Markos. Even he had a goal in the end, he simply wanted a 'home' for him and his travelers. He never really messed with the gang unless they happened to mess with him, he let Damon walk right out the house with a simple warning and just let the spell take its toll.
That's why I'm hoping with this new villain being talked up, they are truly evil for no other reason because they just want to be. Someone you can just utterly hate and can't wait for the gang to rip him a new one. It'd just be a nice change of pace to have in TVD.

We aren't giving it any attention because we aren't worried...lol lol yeah but I do always find it kind of weird when writers/journalists actually dedicate a whole article to some off the wall theory such as this haha. It's almost as bad and cringe worthy as those writers who take one screenshot of Elena standing between Damon and Stefan and then making a big deal out of it all, 'Ooh looks like Elena is caught between the brothers again! Who will she choose!' lol.
Though I guess in this particular instance, if you aren't really involved in the world of spoils and speculation and just go in blindly from season's 5 finale to the premiere of season 6, seeing the season 6 poster would make a more casual watcher think that Bamon is in the works.
Although viewing the show with a logical eye, I don't know how anyone can think Stelena would get back together, spoilers or no spoilers.
Oh you mean journalists like this?

This is an article from TVLine:
The vamps are (almost) back in town. Actually, while The Vampire Diaries will soon return for Season 6 next Thursday, Oct. 2 (The CW, 8/7c), there’s still a magical wall keeping supernatural beings out of Mystic Falls. And that’s not even the biggest problem in store for Elena and the gang. TVLine got a sneak peek at the season premiere, followed by a Q&A with executive producer Caroline Dries, and we’re sharing some teasers about Elena’s state, Damon and Bonnie’s whereabouts, Stefan’s new girl, Caroline’s bruised heart and much more. Read on to get the scoop:
* Damon’s death will reveal a dangerous new side of Elena.
* Stefan is far removed from Mystic Falls as he searches for a witch who can talk to the dead. He even adopts a different “life” with a new job — and a new girlfriend?! “We get to learn what his process is as a vampire, starting over and living a different identity,” Dries teases.
* If you sensed some tension/flirtation between Tyler and Liv in this sneak peek, you’re not crazy.
* The biggest struggle for resurrected Original vampire Alaric isn’t bloodlust — it’s his lack of game when it comes to the ladies. “One of the problems he’s going to be having is just how to go on a normal date and be a normal guy again,” Dries says. Elena’s pretty new doctor mentor Jo (played by Prison Break‘s Jodi Lynn O’Keefe) “is going to bring that side out of him.”
* Caroline’s got a new place of residence, a new mission — finding a way to take down that magical border — and a lot of unreturned calls to Stefan. Ouch.
* With the Mystic Grill under renovation, Matt finds a new purpose in life. Sadly, the same cannot be said about wayward Jeremy.
* New series regular Michael Malarkey isn’t in the season opener, but fret not, Enzo fans, he’ll be back in Episode 2. “He is up to something that is on point with what’s going on in the Damon/Stefan story,” Dries teases.
* As for Damon and Bonnie’s whereabouts, all we can say without being turned into a member of the undead is that the mystery will be addressed.
* Doppelganger schmoppelganger. The “D” word has not been uttered once in the season’s first 10 episodes, Dries reveals. Instead, this season will “pepper in” the mythology, and witchy twins “Liv and Luke will play an important part” in that story.

‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Nina Dobrev to Cross Over to ‘The Originals’The actress will play a doppleganger named Tatia in a November episode “The Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev will be crossing over to its spin-off “The Originals,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap. Dobrev has played Elena Gilbert for all six seasons on The CW mainstay, though Elena won't be setting foot in New Orleans (where the show is set). Instead, Dobrev will play a new doppelganger — the original doppelganger, as it turns out — named Tatia, who has history with brothers Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan). Dobrev will appear as Tatia in flashbacks in the Monday, Nov. 3 episode “What we remember from ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ for those who watch both shows, is that [Klaus and Elijah] both loved her, so it's a little bit of history repeating itself like with Stefan [Paul Wesley] and Damon [Ian Somerhalder],” said “The Originals” showrunner Julie Plec, according to E!. “And then Esther [Alice Evans], their mother, killed her so that she could make Klaus not a hybrid. There's lots of secrets and scandal and romance and terrible tragedy attached to her character. We'll get to go back into the past to see how that all played out.” www.thewrap.com/vampire-diaries-star-nina-dobrev-to-cross-over-to-the-originals/

That part about Tatia is interesting (I was beginning to think that JP sort of dropped that piece of history). Though this kind of gives you the incentive to watch both shows to get those bits and pieces of mythology that might be covered in one show and not the other.

I have been DYING for them to get back to that story and explain the details ever since it was mentioned way back in season 2 of TVD!! I am SO glad they haven't forgotten about it and might actually put the pieces of the mythology together and make sense of it, FINALLY!!!! Thank. God. Seriously.
