I moved the thread out of general and into debates just because we're getting a lot of differing opinions on how it would affect the show if one of the main three were gone as well as side discussions on the dynamics of the show and the couples on it. I find it interesting to talk about all the possibilities and how things could change.

L. J is into multi-complicated relationships between all her faves, because even now that Damon has established that Elena and Bonnie are his girls, in the first half of War Of The Roses, in the next book instaltment which is not out yet she has introduced a new student at Dulgrest College called Bastian who takes a keen interest in Bonnie and despite her feelings for Damon, Bonnie starts to become interested in this new student. Therefore, L.J appears to like triangles within triangles. Because it looks like the next instalment will have Elena in love with both Damon and Stefan, Damon in love with Elena and Bonnie and Bonnie in love with Damon but now is attracted to this new student. This book isn't out yet, so don't know how things will turn out with this student, only that he isn't who he says he is.....
But, what has not changed is the way Damon expresses himself in regards to Elena and Bonnie, that remains the same almost as if L J wishes to express a distinction between the two feelings. What she has done is bring more out into the open Damon feelings as she did here (see below)
From Paradise Lost: Damon and his new best friend sat in the dim booth until the wee hours, Kenzy drinking rum and Cokes and nibbling on peanuts, and Damon drinking Black Magic with the occasional nibble on Kenzy. Then, just as Damon began to put a fang to Kenzy’s soft brown throat for the third time, just as his canines were at their sharpest and most sensitive, a psychic scream split his universe. It was long, it was loud, and it was painful. In addition, it was addressed directly to him, which meant that absolutely no one else in the world was sharing his misery. When Damon was unhappy, he liked to spread the anguish around liberally. But the really, really bad thing was that he couldn’t just ignore the scream, picking up where he had left off his date with Kenzy’s vein. He couldn’t. Because now his entire body was thrumming with fury. He recognized the screamer as clearly as if she were sitting in the booth with him. Damon was cynically curious about exactly what he was going to do to the person who had made her call to him.
"She belongs to me, he sent out on a heavy wave of Power and on all frequencies, including the one the scream had come on. It might not be obvious, but she is mine. Touch her again and die."
But there was nothing at all to prevent Damon from tracking the call back to its origin.
That was exactly what he did. That is how Stefan finds out, because he was the culpritt. Therefore, nothing has changed in the way that L.J writes Damon's way of expressing himself with both Elena and Bonnie, it is exactly the same as she has written in the books 1 to 7 (midnight), only now his intent is clearer, that in War Of The Roses even Matt starts to suspect and is angry on Elena's behalf, because he knows how she feels about Damon.

And remember even now Elena in the Evensong books still looks at Stefan as her boyfriend despite what she feels for Damon. In that extract from Paradice Lost, Damon knows exactly who the screamer is, and the warning he sends out isn't just to the person causing her to scream but all others on the other wavelengths so they too will know....He doesn't say they belong to me, he states she belongs to me. And since the person who made Bonnie scream was Stefan, he got that message laud and clear, which is why he started to worry, because, since he had become a danger to Elena by almost killing her by drinking nearly all of her blood, he had made the decision to remove himself from her life and he did so by erasing all her memories and everyone elses, only to learn later that it didn't totally work. Nonetheless, what he wanted from his brother was to make sure that she would be alright and keep her safe with him gone from her life, which is why he was worried that Damon's attention would be divided and not focused totally on Elena. And the most telling line in that statement is 'it might not be obvious' because Damon does a very good job of hiding what he feels. But now Stefan knows and Matt suspects. Meredith know how Bonnie feels but suspects nothing from Damon, and the same with Elena

Meredith know how Bonnie feels but suspects nothing from Damon, and the same with Elena Again, that's just your interpretation. I didn't read into it like that. There were other times when he warned off other supernaturals in the same way and it isn't 'obvious' because he was nowhere near her at the time. We even get an inside view in Damon's mind and nowhere has he implied he loved her. He loves Elena. He doesn't love Bonnie like that. There's two completely different dynamics going on there and again this is book Damon and Bonnie. Nothing is even remotely similar with TV Damon and Bonnie.

This right here pretty much proves that no matter what the Bamons want to think is love that Damon feels for Bonnie in the books, it isn't. On his deathbed he admits to only ever loving Elena. What he feels for Bonnie is a fondness, a protectiveness, but not love. He even refers to Bonnie numerous times as a silly child, immature, but this is what brings out his protectiveness of her because he thinks she's too foolish to manage on her own without him watching over her.:
"I loved once - just once, really, in my whole life. Can you remember that I loved you? That makes my life...worth...something..." - Damon to Elena. Midnight.
That's not to say it couldn't change in the future but as of now (and that's all we have to go by) he does not love Bonnie!

I'm sorry, but it is not upto interpretation. When Damon was in the Dark Dimentions, he had to role play and part of that role play was that Elena, Bonnie and Meredith were his slaves and as such he had to send out warnings that they were his slaves and therefore, there would be trouble if any harm came to them, this was continued throughout the Dark Dimentions, however, the diffrence was it was part of a well constructed plan if they were to get to where Stefan was and to be able to do so they had to adhere to several rules that are unique to these different dimentions or they would be found out and themselves be in danger. Which did happen on at least one or two occasions when things went wrong in the dark dimentions.
However, the warnings he sent out were in regards to the circumstances required to stay alive and rescue Stefan and were closely linked to the rules of these dimentions in order to travel from one place to the next safely. That is not the case with Paradice Lost, the intent of that statement is clear that even Stefan understood its implication, so it is not as if it was up to interpretation of the reader, add to this the fact that even Matt is picking up on it, again shows it is not being misinterpreted. Add to this that Damon himself is referring to both Bonnie and Elena as his girls, and Meredith is not even included, tells its own story.
Damon meant want he said when he uttered these words: "She belongs to me, he sent out on a heavy wave of Power and on all frequencies, including the one the scream had come on. It might not be obvious, but she is mine. Touch her again and die."
Even in the new L J books, Damon still protects everyone, Matt, Elena, Bonnie, Meredith, Mrs Flowers, Caroline, etc. But you can still tell the difference between his treatment of the gang and his treatment of Elena and Bonnie, they are special to him, and for whatever reasons Damon may find he is always kissing Bonnie and the only other persons he has ever kissed is Elena. Damon is making a statement when he refers to Elena and Bonnie as his girls, even though in reality neither are actually his........ Since Elena stills sees Stefan as her boyfriend, and Bonnie who knows how Elena feels towards Damon is too afraid to make any moves in that directions.
Therefore, it doesn't really have anything to do with the readers interpretation when Stefan fully understood where Damon was coming from and was concerned how it might affect Damon's ability to make Elena his priority, and Matt wasn't happy because he was picking up signals from Damon and was angry with him because he saw it as an act of betrayal given how Elena felt about him. It doesn't take a slide rule to work it out........

It doesn't take a slide rule to work it out........ Excuse me? Obviously it is up to interpretation or people wouldn't have differing opinions about it, would they? Your interpretation is no more valid then mine is. Why would Damon have said he only ever loved once to Elena if it wasn't true because he 'secretly' loved Bonnie? I think it's wishful thinking on the part of Bamon fans at this point and I'm certainly not the only one who thinks that either.
Your attitude that your way of thinking is the only way anyone should see it is not acceptable and being insulting with your 'slide rule' sentence is even less so and if it continues you'll get a warning and or/ban from the forum. Accept that other people may view it differently. That's what makes the world go round. Be gracious and kind and give thoughtful arguments to back up your point of view but do not be insulting when you do!
As far as Stefan and Matt go, they do not know what is in Damon's head and my interpretation is that they misunderstood it to be more than it is, his fondness for Bonnie, which we, as the readers are privy to. Neither of them fully trust Damon, but Elena does. They also jumped to conclusions in the bathroom scene with Damon and Bonnie way back in one of the first books. They aren't prone to thinking the best of Damon's intentions! As for Damon, he has never said he loved Bonnie even in his head so I have no reason to take that leap at this point. Like I said in my last post, who knows where it could go in the future but where it is now is not love from my perspective and interpretation from reading it.
Also did you realize there is another love interest coming for Bonnie in the books? It may spark some feelings for Damon but in the end I'm pretty sure she's going to end up with this new guy who is on the way.

That's not to say it couldn't change in the future but as of now (and that's all we have to go by) he does not love Bonnie! But, that is it, in reality Damon didn't love once, he also loved Katherine to the point that he wanted it to be him and only him and Stefan felt the same which is why they fought a dual and killed each other. Therefore, although Damon made that statement it wasn't exactly a true statement. Damon loved Katherine to the point it cost him his life, what happened to Katherine is what happened to Stefan on the show. Damon simply fell out of love with her when he discovered she was not the person he remembered, just as Elena on the show fell out of love with Stefan. Actually, in L.J's books Damon as yet as not admitted his feelings for Bonnie, however, the fact that people are sitting up and taking notice shows they are there. Just as Elena took a very long time to admit she had any feelings at all for Damon, and even longer to bring the word love into things, but even before she said them, her friends had picked up on it. Which is why the next chapter in The War Of The Roses is going to prove interesting, since we now have a new player for Bonnie's affection in the mix. In regards to the show, I have taken in everybodies views on the matter, and regardless of what anyone says whether it is my own fandom or any other fandom, I have my own views on the matter. Therefore, in regards to the show and Damon and Bonnie, I firmly believe that how Julie and the producers of the show has gone about doing a total reset, a reboot of the show that changes the status quo, in regards to how all the dynamics played out before, these will now undergo a fundamental change and the more organic relationships will bare fruit. How they have gone about Damon and Bonnie bonding has been done in the best and most feasible way. Four months together in each others company 24/7 you get to know someone pretty quickly and some of the misconceptions they had about each other will be turned to a positive, which means by the time the show starts they wold have bonded and built a solid foundation that will be carried throughout the remainder of the season. There is a lot of politics going on with the main three orginal book ships (DE, SE and DB) and all I'm going to say is nothing is set in stone. This is an entirely new show, an entirely new season that has been totally reset. Therefore, anything is possible........

Certainly anything is possible...it would just be show suicide to introduce a romantic element to Bamon. I, for one, would stop watching the show entirely as would a lot of other people I know. I'm not interested in seeing that at all. So if they want to please the minority and piss off the majority it would be a very bad idea, but who knows! I just don't think they're that stupid.
On the 'love' statement by book Damon, I interpreted it that he realized that he never truly loved Katherine and Elena was the only one he really ever loved. I think he was infatuated with Katherine and he certainly thought he loved Katherine but when true love came he realized it was something else entirely. I don't think he was lying about it on his deathbed, that's for sure. Book Damon is brutally honest just like show Damon is.

I think I'm going to do what I was doing before, and stay clear of any debate concerning Bamon because feelings about this issue in regards to my fandom is running very high. I'm among one of the very few DE fans who actually like the Damon and Bonnie dynamic. Taking myself off now..... will stick to what I was doing before.

I'm not being insulting...I'm pointing out that Stefan has now realised Damon's feelings and even Matt has his suspicions and by this very factor alone suggests that Damon feelings go a lot deeper then thought, and the fact Damon calls both Elena and Bonnie HIS GIRLS adds to the evidence. And I don't agree with your interpretation of all of that so that's that. The insulting part is implying that your way is the only way to interpret it and that's not the case as I've laid out my reasoning for why I interpret it the way I do just like you did for your interpretation of it. We're both entitled to our own opinions without being insulted or treated like we're stupid because we see it differently. That's where you have to be careful about the things you say that imply someone who doesn't agree with you is an idiot, whether it's me or anyone else in this forum. That's where the rule is getting broken of being respectful to each other. You can't say things like this and not expect someone to be offended by it so don't do it. I'll point out specifically the issues:
Your offensive words: It doesn't take a slide rule to work it out........ (This implies the person you are addressing is too stupid to get it) and 'it is not up to interpretation,' (this implies your opinion is the only valid one). Neither of these statements is acceptable in this forum. All opinions are valid and welcome, always, and we're to be respectful to each other in our posts. There is no need to be insulting. We're all friends here. We may not always agree but that's OK! However, nowhere on this board can you take a member of this board to task personally, insult or belittle them...that's not allowed.
