Thread title character limits kill me TVD = The Vampire Diaries TW = Twilight HG = The Hunger Games Quite a few Young Adult series have been getting adapted over the past few years to movies mostly (TVD made the jump to TV series which allows it a bit more flexibility in using the source material and really building up the characters/universe which I like) and with the likes of Twilight, Harry Potter and recently The Hunger Games making big splashes on the big screen (we know it's not always the case), I'm just wondering what other series you've read that you want to see get an adaptation, either as a TV series (TVD or True Blood) or a few movies (Twilight, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games). I think mainly I'd like to see TV series because I'd like to see the characters and their worlds fleshed out on the screen over some 20 odd episodes a season instead of just 1hr 1/2 - 2hr movie. Most would probably lend themselves well to a TV series but at the same time, going by the books, I feel like a few would work well enough as a set of movies *BUT* at that same time, I don't want to wait some insane length of time for them to cover all the books and I figure they'd end up condensing a lot of the stuff to be manageable in x amount of movies. So...not sure how this one would be handled. Few of mine that I'd like to see make the jump: Mercedes Thompson Series by Patricia BriggsThis is actually the series the spurred me into YA novels and reading a large part of the time now. Kind of started a snowball effect that's still in motion. Synopsis: Mercedes is Volkswagen mechanic living in the Tri-Cities area of Washington. Her native american heritage has gifted her with the ability to take the form of a coyote at will. She's surrounded by far more powerful supernatural beings, including werewolves, vampires and an assortment of fey.Vampire Academy Series by Richelle MeadI think this one came after MT and I've still yet to grab all the books in the main line (think I have 2-3 more). St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school–it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's–the very place where they're most in danger. Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi–the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires–make Lissa one of them forever.

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare I believe this one is in the process of becoming a movie. Disappointed in the casting. The Host by Stephanie Meyer This one is supposed to be Mrs. Meyers first adult novel. Unfortunately the trailer looks like it is geared towards teens Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger Day by Day Armageddon by J L Bourne It may not make such a good movie but it's a really good read. I remember really liking The Giver when I was in elementary school and wishing it was a movie. I don't remember everything in it since its been so long. If there isn't a movie out then there should be. I know I have more, unfortunately I can't think of them right now. Oops. I just realized you said YA series. Day by Day and The Host are adult. Sorry. I will still leave my original response up since I hope other people will read them. They are really great books.

My Aunt has been randomly buying YA novels for me and the first book from the Mortal Instruments was the last one she bought so I'm currently in the process of reading that. Can't form a solid opinion about it yet to say if I'd watch a movie based around it but what little I've read about the world, I like. The writing kind of threw me for a loop though because I'm so used to reading stuff currently from a 1st Person POV and it's not quite doing that which I find bothersome But I'm liking it so far. One of the other series she dropped in my lap was the 'Trylle Trilogy' (just the first book) by Amanda Hocking which I actually enjoyed. Follows 'Trolls', not Vampires/Werewolves/Hunters this time. I've read about 'The Host' getting adapted but haven't bothered to check out anything more on it really. Might have to do that. And if it's geared towards 'teens', then it's probably the studio/marketing handling that then. Kind of forgot that Secret Circle would also fall into this whole topic Another series I've been trying to break in (only on Book One) is the 'Hollows' Series by Kim Harrison. It follows the 'mash up' formula of Witches, Vampires, Werewolves, etc.. It's another case of something that has an interesting world/backdrop that would make for an interesting transition to a screen.

I wanted the Night World series, another book by LJ Smith, to be turned into a TV series. It almost was since it was either this or The Secret Circle and obviously the latter won out But basically Night World is about vampires, witches, werewolves, and shapeshifters who live among humans without their knowledge. It's sort of like a secret society thing code named Night World and they have these rules such as don't let the humans know about you and don't fall in love with them. And they had their own clubs and stuff so if you were a human and happened to walk in and not really knowing what's what you'd be dead basically! But when I think about it I guess Night World would be a bit of a hassle compared to TSC since every book contains three stories and the main protagonist changes constantly with maybe two or three who has a small cameo every now and then through all stories. At least if there was a character who grated your nerves you wouldn't have to watch them for long. Also I wasn't aware that The Host by SM was being adapted. I still have yet to read it so when it does come out I need to hurry up and get on that!

I would've loved to see how they could've played out The forbidden Games. by LJ Smith Its about a supernatural shadow world and this game that comes to life and you have to get out of the house or something. It was pretty good and creepy lol
Also The Fallen Series by Lauren Kate...the Last one Rapture comes out in June i believe and its about Fallen Angels. The War between Good and Evil and the curse of a fallen angel who fell in love with a human girl.

I have 'Fallen' and finished it but it felt like it took too long to get to the 'meat' and when it did, the book was over Haven't picked up the next one yet but I think I'm swamped right now with what I need to read (finish some series or get caught up). And would CW pick up another LJ Smith based show if it was on the table? I think I'm dropping TSC but would they be able to fit another one into their schedule (I know they're adding a few shows like Arrow and I think a Beauty & the Beast show).

Oh yeah that's what it was called. I was getting confused with the Hunger Games thinking was that the book LJ wrote and stuff lol LJ needs her own station to turn her books into shows/movies Edit: TSC was produced sort of as a spin off to TVD and it's popularity. I sort of already dropped it. I wish another LJ based book on something other than just all witches was picked up but that could be my bitterness talking haha!

It's not the fact that it deals with Witches that bother me...or maybe it is, but it's the whole Cassie crap. I just can't stand that girl. As for it maybe being the 'Witches' thing, I feel like between this and the Witch stuff on TVD, it's a bit much. But I also realize they probably didn't want to have 2 'mash up' shows from LJ (Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Demons, etc.) when TVD kind of covers that area already.

Well TVD the producers seem to be a bit hesitant in making things too supernatural with stripping Damon of most of his powers so if Demons were to come into play I'd be surprised to say the least since that would be crossing that line. But I myself want them to include shapeshifters and stuff though since this is called The Vampire Diaries there's only so much focus they can take off vampires. Well the witches thing is just my personal nitpick about it I think they're boring That's why another show that was focused on the other supernatural aspects of shapeshifters, demons would have been cool in my opinion. That's why I wanted Night World over TSC but oh well what can you do

I hate how they've downplayed Damon so much from his book counterpart on the power scale and it's one of those liberties taken that I'm not too happy with. They keep throwing the Crow thing out there and I don't know why. I know he doesn't have the age to match but when you keep throwing other Vampires out there with special skills (Bekah the lie detector, Sage being able to jump into an Original's mind and share their memories, etc.), why couldn't he have something? As for the focus on Vampires, 2 of the mains are Vampires and one of the main female's best friends is one. They'll *ALWAYS* be in the picture so it'll be fine to ease up here and there to explore the world's other supers. They've thrown Ghosts at us but other than that, it's been Vampires and Witches for 3 seasons straight. They're going to have to mix it up more. I'd like to see the Mercedes Thompson books get something made just to see how that would work on screen. Fae are out to the public (they still try to keep certain things secret) and so are Werewolves. It'd also be nice for one of the new series that do pop up to probably not go the 'school/academy' route It's done a bit too much.

Then Lexi being able to speed up the time or whatever that was she did with Stefan. In the TVD books they were more school scenes and if someone were coming into now and looking they wouldn't even know Elena and co went to school Right now all of these suggestions sound good for a TV series/movie! Better than TSC. I'd like a show that focused on shape shifters! Not sure if there's one out there I'm not aware of though

That's kind of my problem with the show: they're in High School but if you wouldn't know it cause they're hardly ever at school. You'd think they were fresh out and living on their own. I mean, Elena has taken trips to Chicago, Georgia (?) and is on her way to visit Jeremy in the school year. Is Alaric covering for them or what? And isn't Jeremy at College? If they want a school setting, just go with College or just put them out on their own with a job. People keep mentioning that TVD characters are still in HS/17-18 years old and the way it's setup, I forget it damn near all the time If other series start using that theme, I'd say actually make use of it and let the viewer know that these people are still in school. And a show with Shifters...Animorphs? Are you talking about Shifters in the sense of animals or Shifters in the sense of being able to take on humans too? In that case, the guest star/extra budget would be through the roof.

Jeremy is supposed to be one year younger than Elena and them so he should be in 11th unless he's in some type of other learning program like dual enrollment or something. Shifters in the sense of animals namely. But Animorphs... no you reminded me again! oh gosh I can't go back to that! It gave me nightmares when I was a kid! The effects when they shifted, the frames... That was such a long time ago, maybe I'll have a different view on it. I should watch some clips on youtube or something. Nah it's night time where I'm at already we can save that for later!

I expect a plot hole. A big one. Jeremy is in College. No explanation given If Alaric can have a police record all of a sudden, Jeremy can get into College without graduating from HS (GED?), I was thinking about looking up some Animorph clips after mentioning it I think I saw one of the books in a box when I was cleaning up some stuff.

Jeremy's in college for real? It doesn't make sense how he could be there before Elena. Then when he comes back he'll probably not even mention a word of it. I just tried to wiki it since I forgot the storyline of it and when I clicked the link all of the other browsers I had up just suddenly went down and I was facing my desktop wallpaper. That's my clue I'm done
