Official Description
The Originals will air on Tuesdays at 8/7c:
Family is power. The Original Vampire family swore it to each other a thousand years ago. They pledged to remain together, always and forever. Now, centuries have passed and the bonds of family are broken. Time, tragedy and hunger for power have torn the Original Family apart. When Klaus Mikaelson, the original vampire-werewolf hybrid, receives a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him in the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans, he returns to the city his family helped build. Klaus’ questions lead him to a reunion with his diabolical former protégé, Marcel, a charismatic vampire who has total control over the human and supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans. Determined to help his brother find redemption, Elijah follows Klaus and soon learns that the werewolf Hayley has also come to the French Quarter searching for clues to her family history, and has fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie. Tensions between the town’s supernatural factions are nearing a breaking point as Marcel commands his devoted followers and rules with absolute power. For Klaus, the thought of answering to his powerful protégé is unthinkable, and he vows to reclaim what was once his – the power, the city and his family. While they wait to see if their sister Rebekah will leave Mystic Falls and join them, Klaus and Elijah form an uneasy alliance with the witches to ensure that New Orleans will be ruled by THE ORIGINALS once again.
The series stars Joseph Morgan (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Immortals”) as Klaus, Daniel Gillies (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Saving Hope”) as Elijah, Claire Holt (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Pretty Little Liars”) as Rebekah, Phoebe Tonkin (“The Vampire Diaries,” “The Secret Circle”) as Hayley, Charles Michael Davis (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Switched at Birth”) as Marcel, Daniella Pineda (“The Fitzgerald Family Christmas,” “Homeland”) as Sophie, Leah Pipes (“The Deep End,” “Sorority Row”) as Cami and Danielle Campbell (“Starstruck,” “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection”) as Davina. THE ORIGINALS is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with My So-Called Company, Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. Julie Plec (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Kyle XY,” “Wasteland”), Leslie Morgenstein (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Gossip Girl”) and Gina Girolamo (“The Lying Game”) are executive producers. Plec wrote the pilot episode, which was directed by Chris Grismer (“The Vampire Diaries”).

The Originals 1×01 “Pilot” Sneak Peek
This sneak peek for The Originals was just released as part of the promotion for the series which premieres for the Fall 2013-2014 season on The CW. In a previous interview Joseph Morgan mentioned that The Originals backdoor pilot which was shown as an episode of The Vampire Diaries had scenes replaced to incorporate it better with The Vampire Diaries. One of these scenes was probably the beginning where Katherine is telling Damon and Stefan that Klaus is gone, and the other scene is probably the one where Elijah kisses Katerina on the forehead and tells her goodbye.
This sneak peek of is the one showing the witch Sophie, played by Daniella Pineda, telling Klaus that he’s going to be a daddy, thanks to his liquor-fueled one-night stand with the werewolf Hayley, played by Phoebe Tonkin, and a “loophole” in nature!
KLAUS RETURNS TO HIS PAST IN NEW ORLEANS
Acting on a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him in New Orleans, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) makes a trip to the town he and his family helped build. Klaus’ questions lead him to a reunion with his former protégé, Marcel (guest star Charles Michael Davis), a charismatic vampire who has total control over the human and supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans. Determined to help his brother find redemption, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) follows Klaus and soon learns that Hayley (guest star Phoebe Tonkin) has also come to the French Quarter searching for clues to her family history, and has fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie (guest star Daniella Pineda).

So, are they going to replay the premiere then or just recap it? They might have to replay it for people new to the show I suppose.

That makes sense, and of course, the new Originals theme instead of TVD.

Who do I have to kill to get in the same room as Claire?
I kind of imagined her showing up later but if it's for flashbacks, guess that makes sense too. Matt should come with her to NO when she does decide to make the trip. He's graduated, he said he's never really been outside of Mystic Falls either so NO is as good a place as any to start before they hit Paris.

I wonder if the originals will have the same time jump as the vampire diaries

“There will also be a new character, Davina. Played by Danielle Campbell, this character is a witch in New Orleans who gets tied up in Klaus’ return to town. Davina was originally supposed to be in the backdoor pilot, but the part was cut during editing.” — About The Originals new premiere episode (x)

If you thought you knew everything there is to know about The CW’s upcoming show The Originals, think again. The backdoor pilot aired as part of The Vampire Diaries Season 4, but according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Lesley Goldberg, we’ll see an entirely new pilot episode this fall when the show debuts.“CW pilot screeners arrive with a note that#TheOriginals will shoot a new premiere episode over the summer to air in the fall.#TVD,” she tweeted. There were bound to be at least a few changes to the backdoor pilot, as it was bookended with scenes of The Vampire Diaries’ Stefan (Paul Wesley), Elena (Nina Dobrev), and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). It wouldn’t make sense to keep those scenes in for either show. TVD is doing a time-jump at the start of Season 5, from spring to fall. IfThe Originals wants to keep pace with its sister show (to make crossovers a bit easier), it would require a similar time shift. As of right now, Rebekah (Claire Holt) has no plans to join her brothers in in New Orleans. But something, either in a Season 5 episode of TVD or an Originals episode, will eventually make her relocate. Whether it’sKlaus (Joseph Morgan) and Hayley’s (Phoebe Tonkin) future baby remains to be seen. There’s also the matter of appealing to non-Vampire Diaries fans. It was very easy to follow Klaus to New Orleans if you’re already familiar with his hybrid history and the fact that he and his siblings are over 1,000 years ago. The backdoor pilot did little to explain this mythology, but we suspect the first episode in the fall will delve deeper into even the Original family’s backstories.Whatever happens, let’s hope they still manage to get a scene of Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) doing karaoke. That vampire can sing![\b]

Completely slipped my mind that they would also want to position TO for new/non-TVD fans. Thin line? I imagine the characters are what are drawing in TVD fans (like me and wanting to know more about them) so the writers are going to have to keep it to a point where they can keep the TVD carry overs interested but also enough different to make it enjoyable for new people (stuff TVD did that didn't interest them, possibly the triangle).
They have their work cut out for them but the backdoor pilot leaves the impression that they're off to a good start in establishing what they're doing with the story and Originals. Just keep the story interesting throughout and surround them with a good supporting cast.
