Ok so the hiatus is killing us all. I am going to post a series of questions about DE. You can post your answers all at once, daily, weekly whatever. I like this. I'll probably mull these over and answer them slowly. It is indeed going to be a long hiatus and there have been hardly any spoilers so far about the new season but I suppose they are still writing it right now. I don't think we're going to get rudeness here in the DE threads over these questions. At least I hope not!

What was the best DE fight?
On this one. I have two, which are sort of a continuation of each other in a way. Why do I like them? Because Elena learned just how far she could push Damon and that she wasn't going to be able to push him any farther than that! He wasn't going to back down or give her, her way. After these fights Elena didn't really get so physical anymore with it, because it's really her who is getting violent here, not Damon. Damon is just trying to subdue her.
The foreshadowing on the last part with Stefan making Damon promise to protect Elena and Katherine telling Stefan that was the biggest mistake he ever made is pretty significant:

My first post:
Best DE scene of season 1, 2, 3 and 4. Why?
Season 1 best DE scene hands down is the dance at Miss Mystic. It was the first time that we saw them truly being romantic with one another. Elena was fluttering and Damon was distinguished and very gentleman like. I loved that scene. The music, their attire. Thing is in season 1 I watched left and then came back. I saw the scene of them dancing and was happy because the couple I wanted was making a way to one another. So I caught back up and I haven't missed and epi since.
Season 2 best DE scene was the compulsion I love you scene. It was unexpected and honestly I was shocked and excited all at the same time. I remember going to the CW board and freaking out with everyone about it. Somehow somebody had to say Damon was selfish for this but I honestly think it was one of the most unselfish things he did for Elena. It was honest, beautiful, touching and just raw. Beautiful! Loved every minute of it. It was also shot incredibly well. The music, sound affects and the point of views. When they showed their eyes and Damon had a tear in it. SWOON! Yes my favorite DE scene of season 2 most def!
Season 3 best DE scene would be two. One romantic and one very telling. The big hotel kiss. Everything that led to the kiss. Her watching, wanting and getting caught, caring then not caring. Oh my DE heart. Then their huge kiss. It was romantic and yet again the scene was shot beautifully. The way the camera moved and they moved. The lights flickering in the back and the win in Elena's hair. The music was beautiful! I think this was one of their most romantic kisses for sure. Another one I loved was when Damon was caring for Elena's wounds and they talked about Rebekah and her marshmallows. I loved it because it was Elena admitting to Damon that something about him and another girl bothered her and him letting her know or reassuring her that it was nothing and almost even realizing finally that she was bothered by it. It was a moment that was stolen from them but it was honest and sweet and very telling as to where DE were headed for the rest of season 3.
Season 4 best DE scene beside the romantic beautiful sex and her choosing Damon in the finale for me the best scene was on the stairs in the Miss Mystic episode. Where Elena told Damon she needed to talk about her and Stefan's break up. It was the stairs again and the way they both looked at one another. Their temperament and just overall body language was amazing in this scene. And then Damon asked her why they broke up and she said "you". One word just one word and it change Damon's life. YOU. And his face. My gosh his face. It was brilliant and Ian played that amazingly well.

When did you fall in love with DE?
This is actually kind of hard for me to pinpoint because I wasn't actually sold on DE for quite a while. I didn't think Elena truly understood him and she was often pretty judgmental toward him like Stefan at times which made me mad at her but I think that moment after Rose died and she hugged him even though he was being a complete ass at the moment because he was hurting and she knew he was hurting was where I turned that corner. There were lots of moments before that, of course, that I loved how they were together, but actually being sold on it, wanting them to be together and shipping them hard was probably there. I guess because I felt like she really had to be looking deep into his heart to see what she saw. He was darn prickly to her in that scene and a lesser woman would have flinched!
I'm a hard sell when it comes to shipping. I hardly ever ship on any show. In fact, right now with all the shows I watch, DE is my only ship. Damon had me at 'hello' but it took me a while to think she was really suitable for him, especially given she was all in love with Stefan. I hated Stelena but that didn't mean I wanted Delena right away. I even liked Rose a bit for him, but not that much, so I know it wasn't until after that, that I was convinced.

When are DE at their strongest? Weakest?
I think DE are at their strongest when they are working together for a common goal. Season three for instance was pretty magnificent up until Stefan came back, then it went downhill fast. Prior to that, DE was working together like a well oiled machine to find Stefan and bring him home.
Weakest is when Damon acts impulsively. This has always scared Elena away starting with the JNSI. She doesn't like the unpredictability of it when he goes off the rails and every time he did she'd flip out on him and they'd get further apart again.

Some may say this is not a DE song. But I beg to differ. It is. The scene is Jonathan and Jenna's funeral. Jonathan's letter is being read over the music as Elena lays down roses on the graves. Very touching and so sad. I cried like a baby. But John's words were read over a moment where two friends one in love with the other and the other not allowing herself to feel his love.
His words were... "I ask only that you believe this: whether you are now reading this as a human or as a vampire, I love you all the same, as I’ve always loved you and always will."
The lyrics over this moment were:
And now all your love is wasted
And then who the hell was I?
And I'm breaking at the britches
And at the end of all your lines
Now every time I watch that scene I'm a ball of tears. But that DE moment always captures my heart!

That was pretty significant that the voiceover of that part of John's letter was when she was looking at Damon and he has basically said the same. He loves her either way. Also this line from Skinny Love at the same time which to me represents Damon and Stefan. Damon always being there always loving her and Stefan falling behind:
Who will love you? who will fight?
And who will fall, far behind?
So much foreshadowing is becoming obvious now that we know DE are together.

Just now noticing this thread and I will definitely begin to get cozy in here as summer rolls in! Doppel and Sweet I like the insight and reasons you put into your answers for the specific questions you chose! Pretty much on the same wavelength with most of those questions lol. And Sweet really nice concept for a thread! Definitely something fun and enjoyable to bide our time till season 5 starts up.

Best DE scene period?I know you guys must be thinking I'm crazy jumping on this as my first question lol. And what a question it is indeed. Asking about the BEST DE scene PERIOD?  I'll start off by saying DE has had many amazing, monumental, relationship, dynamic changing scenes through the course of all four seasons. There are lots of biggies and game changers, like the roadtrip in 1x11, the dance in 1x19, Damon's confession in 2x08, John's letter, convo and kiss in 3x19, etc. you could go on. But for me I say the best DE scene period took place in season's 4 episode 6.  The scene where Elena wakes up in her bed after Damon saves her from burning up in the sun. I just love everything about this scene and how it was presented I don't even know where to start, or if I'll even do this scene justice by trying to explain it as I'm not really that good at putting my thoughts together like this. lol But I'd like to start off when Damon asks Elena how she's feeling and she answers, 'My head's clear'. Huh your head? I thought it was your skin burning up? lol I just really love the symbolism of this quote. It takes me back to the first episode in the pilot where Elena is sitting in the cemetery with her diary and all the fog is around her and there's a silhouette of Damon. It's like all this time Elena's head has been 'foggy' up to this point. And her going on to talk about how everything sort of felt like a bad dream. As in this moment she's finally waking up and seeing the light and it's clearing away that fog so to speak. Even more so look at how Damon is by the window with the light shining in. The writers could have easily have Damon ask if Elena was alright and have her nod, 'Yeah. Whoo that was a close one. I almost burned up in the sun back there! Quick thinking getting me in that water!' but they didn't cause that wasn't necessarily the point. The next thing I'd like to point out is when Elena says to Damon, 'You saved me.' and thanks him. This isn't the first time that Damon has saved Elena but this is the first time we have genuine acknowledgement and happiness from Elena from the fact that she was saved this time around. Again Damon has saved Elena plenty of times before. 1x11 - Damon saves Elena this early on in the season but of course at this point the relationship between the two is a bit rocky. She doesn't outright shun him but she also isn't outright amazed by this man's sudden saving of her you know. Bleh wish I could explain better haha 2x03 - Damon saves her from arrow but this goes right over her head as the JNSI is still fresh at this point in time. 2x08 - Damon and Stefan go to save her but she rushes to Stefan but she does give Damon that mouthed, 'Thank you'. 3x05 - Where Damon takes Elena from the hospital after being drained of her blood. Elena says, 'Where were you Damon?'. At this point she's used to Damon saving/getting her out of situations so in a way I still don't feel like at this point it was genuine yet. More of surprise that Damon wasn't there in the thick of the heat as he usually is. Though I do feel as if this was a turning point scene. 3x10 - Saving Elena from her suicidal missions. Though of course Elena didn't want to be saved in this episode so she's getting frustrated and fighting back. (These are of course not the only scenes but a couple I wanted to point out but this is particular point is also getting a bit dragged so I should get a move on!) But if I'm not mistaken this is the first scene where Damon saving Elena isn't really brushed over as another, 'Damon saves Elena. Of course. Moving on.' type of thing. What makes this scene different is how Elena points out that Damon has saved her, in turn thanking him, and also just looking really happy overall with the result. What makes this more telling is when Elena thanks him and Damon sort of looks down and then brushes it off with one of his commentary bits he does. Then of course the rest with Elena trying to comment more on the matter, Damon sort of brushing it off but Elena interrupting him and going, 'Yeah but if it wasn't for YOU.' and then the way Elena looks at him and the hand holding that follow that. Damon holding her hand hesitantly before taking that, 'High and annoying road' as he puts it. The best part is that Damon tells Elena about Stefan's intentions about the cure and defends his actions but Elena still breaks up with Stefan by the end of the episode despite that fact. The break up was pretty much already written in stone. Her 'head being clear' at the beginning points towards that. And yep I just love everything about this scene. Who knows maybe I am being a bit out there by calling this THE best DE scene put I feel that this is pretty high up there with DE's greatest moments.

Now see that scene has always made me wonder if that was when she realized she was in love with Damon, thus the statement of her head being clear after she had previously said, she didn't know how she felt about Damon and seemed so confused about the whole thing. It was a turning point for her for certain. She never looked back at Stefan after that. I think also seeing her Mom on that bridge helped her let go of that part of her life that she had been standing still in, the grief she couldn't let go of and that Stefan was the bandaid for. That's just my thoughts on it anyway.
