I figured talk about the show being over should be done in a more general thread where everyone can come and I mean EVERYONE and talk about the devastating news. We must say goodbye to Nina aka ELENA GILBERT!
Everyone's feelings are valid and everyone has a right to express why they are leaving and or staying. So respect what others have to say.
It'll be hard for me but NO DE no Sarah. I am choosing to say goodbye.

I will stay at least until the end of this season to see what they do with DE but if it becomes the Bamon show I'll be done with it.

I hope everyone who will be done with the show will keep coming to talk about other shows we watch. For instance Outlander is absolutely fantastic and well worth watching and talking about as are many other shows. I really just don't want us all to lose touch after all these years over the crappy ending of our beloved ship so please...don't go away from here forever. Pinky swear!

I'm the same in if there's no DE, I really don't care to watch. At one point the characters stories were captivating and interesting but along the way the characters just suffered from horrible/OOC writing, whether being stuck in season 1 menalities that they should have long since overcome seasons ago, being used as mouthpieces for the fandom where every freaking new villian or guest star added their two cents on the triangle or Delena's relationship for no reason at all, storylines being dropped or suffering from wasted potential. Too many characters, too much focus of guest stars where the cast we've learned to love from season 1 gets pushed aside.
I've also had my fill of being a part of a fandom who senselessly hates on the main female character for things like killing a 'hot villian' or spending time with her own boyfriend because a non existent pairing wants another girl in her place or because she's 'whiny' or not BA enough yet every other female can act this way and more and not be hated. The show also could care less about their heroine or her agency or voice as there are freaking multiple storylines of Elena 'not being herself' or acting some way cause of supernatural stuff. The sirebond, the doppelganger curse, no humanity Elena, body switch Katherine, crazy bloodthirsty witch drugs Elena, and now memoryless Elena.
The show using their own characters to insult their heroine in situations that don't even make sense i.e. Stefan saying Elena slept with Damon as the reason they broke up, believing the SB were the cause of her feelings for Damon but still acting like a jerk who wronged him despite believing it's the sirebonds fault or Caroline saying that Elena was making a situation about herself when she was simply giving an experience. I even told my cousin who used to watch TVD and he outright laughed. Likened it to a person who's made a choice they regret doing (like drugs etc.) and wanted to keep another person from following in their shoes and gave their experience only for that person to go, 'LOL I can't believe you're making this about you.'
Call out your characters in situations that MAKE SENSE. Season 2 Elena wanting to be a martyr and going off by herself to confront tbe enemy or season 3 enlisting Stefan to snap Damon's neck while she converses with the enemies plans. Things like that. Not for her simply TALKING. Which since the start of season 6 characters kept shutting her down and saying she didn't know what she was talking about.
Another character I enjoyed, Damon, well his treatment in the show can speak for itself and I don't see why that would suddenly change when he loses Elena, the one person who managed to crack through his wall in season 1, is still five seasons later the only one who comforts, defends, or is able to see past his snarky comments, or decipher his actions and words and see what the real issue is. And I'd like to even give a shot out to Tyler, a character I'm glad I never was too invested in as his treatment is also horrible. Disappearing from arc to arc, being made out to be the bad guy in the fandom whenever it came to Caroline no matter what, even when he was in the right to be angry. Never being able to get to interact with Bonnie for our wolf and witch pairing. Okay that last one is a bit more on the light hearted side and not really an 'issue' lol.
So yeah I've pretty much long since hated the writing but stuck around for DE (which also suffered from horrible writing) but I was determined to see through it in the end, always believing each obstacle made them stronger, believing in endgame, that the writers wouldn't waste so much time on a couple for a horrible end.
I feel like I can breathe easy knowing I'll finally be able to let this show go, hopefully DE has a final grand performance that makes me not regret ever shipping this couple, being so consumed, and stressful, and anxious over it. Watching scenes less in enjoyment and more in fear of another obstacle, another retcon, another ambigious line taken out of context by the fandom. I've had fun times conversing with all of you here, through the highs and lows of Delena, all of our fangirling or being misled and angry by bad spoilers only to be surprised at DE overcoming yet another hurdle, another argument shot down. Sad to say this will be one obstacle DE will not overcome. This is truly my favorite couple of all time. I'll be glad for the closure but now our ultimate DE endgame, Damon and Elena being truly together and happy, can only exist in fanfics.
Sorry for the long post! I wasn't intending it initially but its finally good to get all this off my chest.

A bit slightly off topic but is everyone familiar with Skype? It's not too much trouble to download to a phone or laptop either in case that's an issue for some, it's just a social messaging/chat media that we could all add each other to and then create a 'group' and title that Delena refuge or anything and there we can talk about Delena or whatever we want. We can continue to keep in touch that way in case many of us don't find ourselves tuning into the same shows. |

I'm sticking around. I liked the show for years and it's not just because of a ship. The fact is the ship I was routing for (Delena) was complete **** to me once they went with it. One thing I've mentioned is the show has gone down hill BUT it's because every ****ing revolves around Elena much like Smallville did with Lana Lang. After Lana left the show got really good for last few seasons. Si I'm hoping thats the case here
I love Enzo/Caroline but they see,m to be going Stefan/Caroline , I honestly think they'll make something work one BIG TVD problem and one big Delena and big Stelena issue was the triangle was so done to death it was dragged out at the expense of what ever couple was together
Plus I remember a lot of Stelena quiting when Delena was together and everyone agreed its stupud and petty to not watch as you dont get your ship. This kinda feels the same way. I'm not insulting those that do its up to you what you watch but I feel as long as fans only watch or leave due to ship then they show will not grow into more than that.
I use buffy as a comparison. If Bangel fans and left after angel left for spin off to hurt ratings or just as theres no Buffy/angel then we'd have missed out on great tv like Spike's arc , Once more with feeling , Evil willow and so much more
The show can get better I honestly believe this was needed and it'll force them to better use character who hsve been sidelined. So i'll still be here do to my weird messed up logic reviews lol

I don't think the show will survive this actually from the looks of the fanbase and how many people will be done with it. One thing nobody can really disagree with is that the Delena fanbase was huge..very very huge and a lot of the people left watching are Delenas who will no longer be watching. The ratings barely hit 1.3 million when it dipped and with the loss of people I bet it falls below 1 million which will kill the show. It won't make it very far into season 7. That's my prediction. I don't know how they could retain those fans and keep them from leaving. While I agree with JP that I could watch Damon doing just about anything, the show has set it up so that losing Elena is a fatal blow. Damon would be a shell of himself without her unless they want to retcon the whole thing and that will make Damon not Damon and therefore not worth watching, but do I want to watch Damon suffer knowing there will be no end to his suffering....ah...no, no I don't. So I really don't know what they can do to fix this mess. They put themselves in a corner.

I am going to reserve my judgment for after the finale. I just can't picture yet where they are going to go with this story if there is no Elena. I am among the people that see her as the main character, and I always have. She hasn't been the girl I fell in love with when the series started so much these days, but I still love her. And its hard to imagine the show without her. But I think we should be able to have a sense of the situation from the finale, so I will wait until then to make up my mind. But if I do stop watching next season, I will still be here to talk about other shows, and probably to see what's going on in TVD :-)

I have been just thinking and thinking about TVD and I am just really sure in my decision not to come back. I was mourning the loss of my show last night but today I am at peace. =)
I am a bit relieved that I don't have to think, worry or obsess about whether or not they will ruin DE anymore. It has taken so much time from my life and look what they will give us. Human Elena and Damon letting her go. This is not my ending and I am really annoyed but its to be expected because they have jerked us around for so long how could we not even know they would end the show with a brother Endgame and human Elena. The ships were to drag us along.
I am sad too Anbu that we will never get our Wolf witch fantasy! No Tyler and Bonnie Crack ship happening ever! I think that would have been an amazing ship. They could have got their cues from Buffy but NO! So annoying. I will always be team wolf and witch in the end no matter what!
As much as I love Steroline it wont keep me for season 7. I cant watch a Elenaless Damon. I just cant. My heart wont be able to stand it. And I know they will force Damon to get over her and I know he never could get over her so I wont believe anything they write. It might as well be fan fiction. Damon would rather die then not interact or be with Elena.

OK, so I've thought and thought and thought some more about this and what I think of TVD as a whole now. I am really disappointed and I hope that they can somehow give me some ending that satisfies all of the crap and romantic tugs and pulls that Delena has been through this season (and forever, really). What I know is that the finale is supposed to be big and we won't see it coming. I haven't seen any shocking theories circling the web waves (not that I've looked that much, lol) other than Elena taking the cure somehow or just getting memories wiped of the Salvatores or leaving on her own accord. None of that sounds very shocking and unpredictable to me so I hope the writers have come up with something big enough that 1) satisfies my Delena ending and 2) makes me want to come back for season 7. TVD is THE first show I have ever been so invested in and followed up on message boards and other mediums, and because of that, I know I am in it for more than a ship. I love me some Delena, but I am a fan of the show as well. I've put less effort into shows I've seen all the way through when main characters left and my preferred ship didn't work out **cough One Tree Hill cough**. I just know that it is not in my nature to stop watching a show when someone leaves. Usually I'll cut and run when the writing is just too much to handle and the storylines fizz out, like The Office or The OC. With that said, I voted that I am sticking around for Damon. I love his story and really he has been the one that has intrigued me the most about this entire show. I feel like he has the most layers to uncover and he has also evolved the most of any character. I would love for them to go into more of "Who is Damon Salvator" and if he went to TO (unlikely) or a new show, I'd follow him there. If they start doing stupid writing or throwing Bamon in because "with grief comes love" or some kind of crap, then I'm out.  |

This exactly. I hope they aren't stupid enough to try to put him with anyone else regardless of what they do with Elena and I don't really think they will because I mean Delena was the IT couple of this show. They won all the awards. It would just fall flat on it's face not to mention that a lot of fans who endured everything else wouldn't stick around for it. |

The reason you put down because of OTH is the reason why I wont stick around. I was the biggest BRUCAS fan and I stayed and watched her in mediocre relationships that did nothing for me. I cant watch season 7 if it's about Damon moving on or letting go. he is not Damon to me without Elena. It's because of his actions and his own words that have created this mindset within me. If Ian left and there was no Damon hence no Delena I'd still leave! No Delena no Sarah. =) |
