Wait now that I think about it, was there any crying or funeral at all? All I remember is Caroline and Damon standing at Stefan's stone. Only had about 10 min. of screentime and she didn't even talk aside from voice over. They must have cut so many scenes. I read there were a couple of montages cut. One of them was at Stefan's "funeral" which we ended up just getting a shot of the end. My my guess is by the time they release all this deleted footage no one will care.

I saw a campaign on twitter from some DEs that release the deleted DE scenes. It'd be neat to see but JP and KW still should have had better priorities in the first place, cutting DE's proposal and some of Stefan's funeral? All for all this Katherine and Vicki? Just for some callbacks of past scenes from the first season? Jeremy didn't even have a scene with his sister, he was just tacked on part of Caroline's epilogue. Just weird decisions all around.

Yeah, the finale was a major fail, IMO. Their priorities were all out of whack. Also, some of the dialogue didn't make sense to the story that was told. It's not just DE shippers who felt robbed when it came to the DE reunion either. It was casual viewers as well. The pay-off wasn't enough after all that build-up.

It's not just DE shippers who felt robbed when it came to the DE reunion either. It was casual viewers as well. The pay-off wasn't enough after all that build-up. I can't imagine what that would have been like as a casual fan. They really wouldn't get what the heck was up DE looking so awkward or why it got so little screen time or dialogue at all. Again annoying because with the anticipation of the build up of DE's reunion, it was meant to be the couple that had the focus and carried all the emotional weight. Yet instead DE looked tacked on and Steroline and Stefan are the stars of the finale. Damon and Delena looked pretty much irrelevant, DE who had no real scenes till the end and even that was just a voice over montage as if to say, 'Oh right. Yeah Elena and Damon got together. Anyways...'. And then Damon, who not only sacrificed himself once, but twice when he chose to hold down Katherine and get Stefan out of there. Yet when Stefan takes over it's pretty much seen as Stefan the only one who made the big sacrifice and Elena was made to be grateful to Stefan only and no mention of Damon. It's dumb because it makes it come off as people thinking Stefan sacrificed himself for the sake of Delena, and not for the sake of his brother. I'd also change the words Stefan said to Elena, cause it's a huge retcon and makes Stefan look like he has short term memory and it's something Elena has already knew in regards to Damon, duh. I think what Stefan should have told her is the story of how he and Damon turned and forcing him to drink blood. I think there was a mention of it to Elena in season 1, I don't remember the exact words but I'm sure it was framed in a way that painted Damon as vindictive while Stefan was the victim since he could never be wrong about anything. So to hear Stefan talk about Damon and giving the choice to make him human once more after forcing him to turn should have been the main point, not that he wanted Elena to get to know 'that' Damon. She obviously saw that Damon in him long before anyone else.

At least Stefan finally acknowledged that Damon was the better man. Looking back, is it at all surprising that KW wrote that stupid JNS before leaving in Season 2? Anyway, I thought a Steroline was written beautifully in the finale, even with the nod to Klaroline at the end. Delena's reunion was not well executed, although it sounds good on paper. There should have been more Delena scenes, and the fake reunion at the beginning of the episode was completely unnecessary. The amount of time spent on Julie Donovan in the final two episodes really was ridiculous. I take it she didn't find peace? Why did she hate the people in Mystic Falls so much I the end anyway? I didn't get that. She wasn't just carrying out Katherine's evil plans. She seemed to be enjoying it, which really made no sense (not that I care). I'm just bothered by the fact that all the sacrifices Damon made prior to the one he was ready to make in 8x16 seemed to have went over Stefan's head, and judging by what he said to Elena, I guess he thought they went unnoticed by her too. Sorry, Stefan, Elena saw that side if Damon a ling time ago, even when you refused to. That's why she fell in love with him. She saw the good in him though, as early as a Season 1. I'm glad the series is over, because it was redundant. How many times did Damon make a selfless sacrifice, and then the writing continued as if it was never happened? Just as all the evil things Stefan did were glossed over (until the very end), but Damon was constantly beat over the head with his. They act like Enzo is the first friend Stefan ever killed. Hello? He killed Vicky. He killed Andie. He was perfectly willing to take Jeremy's humanity and get him killed so he could get his human girl toy Elena back. Dot. Dot. Dot. Anyway, I'm just really bothered by the "I caught a glimpse of the brother from my childhood and I want you to get to know him line". This constant regression of Damon as a character and his relationship with a Stefan rather than recognizing the progress made from season to season is part of what ruined this show in later seasons. It became so redundant. Stefan had even acknowledged as early as Season 5 that Damon had changed for the better. He grieved him in Season 6 as the brother he loved and needed.
I will be forever convinced that KW's involvement in the finale is why the show's most believed couple was treated as an afterthought and didn't get the screen time it deserved. I guess it could be though that Ian refused to do romantic scenes with Nina (or was not a good enough actor to pull them off or it is true that his wife was hovering and making everyone uncomfortable).

So here we are, it's over.
I'm glad honestly. I will miss this story, but I've been missing the real TVD since the end of season 4. In the end, at least we can say Delena is official and forever, if nothing else. I still wish they had just ended the series as soon as they found out Nina was leaving back in season 6. They could have given Delena a beautiful happy ending right there, with Damon taking the cure and getting married and showing their future with babies and all. They were so close there at the end of that to something great. In my head, that is where I will leave them, and erase the last 2 years.
Or possibly even just leave them at the end of season 4, living happily ever after together as vampires for eternity.

This reunion really is beautiful.
The song is perfect (Nina suggested it). Caroline's look of happiness breaking through her grief, and the way She stepped aside for Damon when he stepped out. She knew that moment belonged only to Damon and Elena. All Damon and Elena saw in that moment was each other. Everything else faded away. Then, the way Bonnie and Caroline look on in perfect love and support is beautiful. As is the look of love, relief, and hope on Elena's face once she is back in Damon's arms where she feels so safe!

I guess it could be though that Ian refused to do romantic scenes with Nina (or was not a good enough actor to pull them off or it is true that his wife was hovering and making everyone uncomfortable). There are several things I would change about that SE scene. It's not what Stefan says that I have the problem with, it's how they go about it. First I would allow Elena to actually speak instead of it feeling like she's being told something she never knew, it's not as if she needs Stefan's blessing to be with Damon. I think the focus should have been less about Stefan telling Elena that Damon is the better man and he finally saw that (for the reason he made the sacrifice) and more about how Damon made a choice between him and Elena before, and that he feels Damon thinks he doesn't deserve happiness or a future with Elena. And that be the reason to prompt him wanting to sacrifice himself in Damon's place. And then when Stefan saw that he was going to make that sacrifice yet again, he stepped in, gave him the cure, so that he and Elena could be human together. Then come in with the Steroline bit and giving Elena the I love you message to Caroline. That comes off way better to me, less retcon and memory loss and Stefan acknowledging how Damon is always sacrificing himself and getting none of the happiness. Then you could have Elena say how she's glad Stefan finally saw in Damon what made her fall for him in the first place and ask if there's anything he'd like her to tell Damon for him (then again I guess this is silly as how would Elena know she's waking up at this point in time ) and then Stefan would pause a while before saying he's sorry he can't keep that promise to Damon about being the best man at his wedding. But yeah I'm always asking too much lol.

While the endgame felt a bit too little and not as satisfying on screen, we can say that overall it's still the best endgame any ship can have. It's canon that Damon and Elena lived a long, married life together. This leaves so much room for we as fans to fill in the blanks and let the creativity flow instead of being pigeonholed into one specific thing. Like say we can make DE's first child be a boy or girl. They could have one child or twins. Damon could be a stay at home dad (my personal favorite since I want to imagine Damon wanting the full human life experience and imagine him like in the above grocery shopping and at parent/teacher conferences and cooking a full course meal dinner with an apron on). I'm all for breaking out of sterotypes and we know Elena's job in the medical field is tough work and long, unpredictable hours. Anyways now that I'm over the initial shock of DE's so little screen time. As pointed out DE is the only couple that got the happy endgame and the afterlife endgame where they'll spend eternity together. And we get to fill in the blanks ourselves, it's just the best of both worlds alive and dead, for our ship and I couldn't be more grateful for it.

Yikes pretty scary there! That could have turned out worst, flashbacks to Finn Hudson's actor on Glee when he died from his drug overdose.

Yeah I'm hoping our gang from TVD keep their noses clean and we don't hear any tragic stories like that coming out about any of them. It will be hard for a lot of them to get full time work like they've had on TVD and suddenly it won't look so bad anymore having to work as much as they did, but now it's going to be starving artist time again.
