Yeah, have to admit if I was an Stelena I wouldn't have been at all happy in that moment...
Stefan: "Without the cure, I'd start to age. I'd be dead soon enough."
Elena: "...So Damon's okay?"
lmao
JP threw too much shade at SE in later seasons for me ever to believe she was an SE in the end, or that she wanted anything other than a DE endgame. KW was just stuck in season 1/2.

KW was just stuck in season 1/2. Had KW stuck around and actually watched the show, he'd be on the same page as JP was with the development of the end pairs. Does he not realize Steroline has been a thing for the past few seasons, that Stefan married Caroline, that Stefan has long since moved on from Elena in general? JP has made Elena say things that has well put SE six feet under. She made her state how Stefan treats her like a toy and Damon consumes her and makes her feel alive (of course KW retconned that). JP made her exclaim how she can't stop loving Damon and only see a future with him. There's no way to go from that to doing SE again without making it a huge retcon. Of course it'd be easy to have Damon feeling guilty because 'After all I stole my brother's girl, maybe I don't deserve the happy ending' and say other robotic lines straight from an anti Damon tag as usual. |

You'd never know Elena was gone for two seasons lol. I forgot some of these parallels, I love being reminded of those small DE moments. No other couple on this show could have a video like this that spans the entirety of the show. DE was certainly one of a kind couple. |

I know it's a bit redundant to comment after every video haha. But I will say these videos help me to appreciate the finale clips more. Like the person who edited the season 1 and 8 graveyard scenes together. I focus less on how awkward Nian is and more about the overall picture that leads up to it.

It doesn't feel like it's been almost 3 weeks since the finale aired. Old habits die hard.  I am starting to leave the show in the dust though. I don't think I will ever watch it again past season 4 except for some Delena scenes from 5-8. I NEVER have been okay Elena choosing to erase her memories of Damon though (and never will be), so I didn't really like the Season 6 overall story arc. Delena was robbed of the reunion they should have gotten when Damon came back from the dead too, though they did end up getting some good scenes out of the fiasco. I hated Season 5 overall storyline too. They were just trying to keep Delena apart at that point and drag out a dead triangle. Looking back, we were pretty much robbed of the pay-off we should have gotten for 4 seasons (5-8) and didn't even get it in the finale. We never did get to see Delena happy and carefree except in a montage at the beginning of Season 5 and some sporadic scenes in other seasons, but never Delena together and happy for any period of time. Forever bitter. Lol |

Yeah pretty much I'm just grateful that one, DE were endgame and spent the rest of their human lifetime together. That's all I need to know as far as DE is concerned. Again I'm glad that the filling in the blanks is left to the fans who often do it better than the canon. Just reading over your post, since season 4 finale, we never got the payoff of seeing DE happy and a couple for more than one episode. They skipped the entirety of DE's summer of love, we didn't get to see any of the firsts or cute romantic couple moments cause plot was always getting in the way, whereas Bonenzo got all of that and more. Of course most of that has to do with Nian's fallout. With all that taken into account, I say we dodged the mother of bullets that JP for once had DE end on a simple, happy ending note.
She could have made it 'canon' to have either of the characters mentally scarred, have a Damon not enjoying his human life with Elena and dreading his incoming death. Some blanks may have just been filled with horrible and unwanted angst/tragedy and suddenly it's not so bad that we got scraps. But yeah, I'm happy to move on from the show and can see myself watching scenes of Damon and Elena's scenes on youtube, even ones from season 5 or 6. Unlike some of the other pairings like Stelena/Steroline, DE has never had an awkward or cringey scene that completely destroyed their development, it's the one consistent relationship. Although I do agree I also hated the memory loss and toxic arcs of DE.
